Note this office is on the ground floor but is ONLY accessible from the the exterior of the rear of the building with plenty of shade-covered parking in the morning. GPS misguides its drivers to the front of the building and the interior. Avoid the garage and park in the back for a closer walk. I recommend visiting for International Driver's Permit (IDP), maps, and travel advice. We were in and out in less than half and hour. After many years of not traveling, it is great to visit and learn what are the latest luggage packing cube trends in traveling or how much things have evolved since we last traveled. Online IDP has its place but a AAA office visit rules for speed: 20 minutes versus a week for online which necessitates waiting for shipping. This is a great place to see and hear the most recent ideas for more efficient travel. read more

This has to be one of the worst car repair shops around and I have been to many of them. My car was towed here after dying on the highway. I received an initial call eight hours after the car was towed there saying they had my vehicle and then didn't hear from them again. No missed calls and no voicemails for over a week. I called the center every single day and no one ever answered the phone so I went into the location over a week later to check on the status of my car. The mechanic insisted that he personally left me multiple voicemail messages and called me repeatedly, but I had ZERO missed calls or messages from AAA. The mechanic then informed me that my car was simply out of gas and they were waiting for someone to track down some gas. They then charged me almost $200 for that diagnosis when I confirmed that my car was NOT out of gas and that I would have it taken elsewhere. I had my car towed to my trusted mechanic the next morning where they confirmed that not only did I have gas in the tank, but it was likely a timing belt issue. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone that relies on their vehicle at all unless they enjoy being treated with disrespect and/or have a lot of money to spend on needless diagnoses. read more

I have been a AAA member for over 30 years. Recently, I called AAA for a jumpstart service for my car, and my experience was extremely disappointing. When the technician arrived, the first thing he asked me was whether I was "Muslim." I found this question highly inappropriate, unprofessional, and completely unrelated to the service request. He then attempted to jumpstart my car but failed and told me it was a mechanical issue that required professional diagnosis. I asked him to try again, as I was confident the car simply needed a jumpstart. He tried again and still insisted it was a mechanical problem. However, when I later called a mechanic, it took him less than two minutes to successfully jumpstart the car. This clearly shows that the issue was not mechanical, but rather a failure on the part of the AAA technician. I am left questioning whether the technician AAA sent was properly trained or competent, especially given both his inability to perform a basic service and his unprofessional behavior. This is not the first time I have had a poor experience with AAA. In fact, this service call ended up costing me more time and money than resolving the issue independently would have. What is even more frustrating is that I never received a follow-up regarding my complaint until it was time to renew my membership. The resolution offered was inadequate--a free service call to be used within a week before my membership expires, despite the fact that my membership already includes unused service calls. In other words, I was offered nothing of real value. When I pointed this out, the representative simply said, "I'm sorry you feel that way," which only added to my frustration. Overall, I am extremely disappointed--not only with the technician's incompetence and unprofessional conduct, but also with AAA's poor handling of customer concerns. There are many competitors offering better service, and based on my experience, AAA has fallen far short of expectations. read more

NOT TO BE TRUSTED: I was given an estimate of over $3000 for an exhaust repair which I refused. After I refused the exhaust repair that ended up costing $250 at another shop, I was charged $35/day vehicle storage fee on my vehicle. AAA uses the pubic parking in a strip mall next to their location. My oil was also changed without my approval. I've also had my vehicle repaired here in the past on 2 separate occasions and each time I was there I had a new engine code they would not take responsibility for. I've had mostly positive experiences with AAA Roadside in the ~20 years or so I've had them, but even if I hadn't, I don't think the travel centers like this one have anything to do with how long people sit waiting for tows. The negative reviews I see about the correlation are sort of like slamming the local Walmart because your Walmart.com order was late. Speaking of compartmentalizing, the AAA website and app are some of the most useless bits of tech on the web. The reason I drop into this location from time to time is because they always have clear, up-front deals that are either challenging to find or non existent on their app. Today, for example, I wanted to find out if they have discounted Hershey Park tickets. The app straight up crashed when trying to look at travel discounts and I didn't see anything on the site, but when I dropped in to the office, I left with a folder full of discounted tickets in less than ten minutes. The staff here is always prompt and friendly, I think they usually have coffee, and if you need neck pillows or Vera Bradley bags or emergency kits, they've got you covered for that too. read more

4/23/2025 Took my car to AAA Fairfax 9400 Main Street Fairfax VA on 3/28 and 4/9 for simple repairs - to stop slight coolant leak at one hose and power steering leak. Although I had an appointment - had to wait several hours. Got billed $186.19 and $187.06 respectively. On second visit had to interact with the Manager Mark O'Conner. Both visits were for the SAME repairs - as it had not been fixed. After the second visit - still not repaired - and may actually be worse. Was told they did almost nothing to fix either repair - in fact on the second visit Mark and technician Dean said they touched nothing. Mark sent through their system a refund of the charge for the second visit - $187.06 - but refused to refund the charge for the first visit of $186.19. This Manager was extremely rude and arrogant - in front of his employees - and told me "do not come back here". I been a AAA Premier Member for 24 years - have always found services very well done - until encountering Manager Mark O'Conner at AAA 9400 Main Street, Fairfax VA. This is a location and manager to avoid and I'm sure does not represent the organization. Still can't believe I was told "Do not come back here". They attempted the same repairs twice - fixed nothing - but billed me. read more

I went to the Fairfax office because the AAA website to join was not working. I stood there for over ten minutes without even a greeting. Finally, someone that was with a customer said hello. Another person who was at the auto registration asked what I wanted. I told her that I wanted to join in person since the online site wasn't working. She told me to wait in the seating area. I would like to correct my previous rating. I did wait too long and received no response. In retrospect, I realized I was caught in a phone-loop that continuously repeated itself. When I called back, the call was immediately answered by a most helpful agent. She handled our complicated requests with grace and understanding. So, I just became a member with them and used their towing service. I have to admit, $5 per mile for towing is nice considering how egregious the charges are from towing companies. Its predominately an unregulated industry in Maryland and Virginia. However, if they really cared about customer service they need to give some attention to their billing/invoice record management. Many of us need the receipt so we can get reimbursed for roadside assistance from our insurance carrier. AAA has a BAD POLICY of giving themselves 72 hours before they send you a billing receipt. Really guys? It takes you 3 days to get something done that should take no more than 2-3 minutes? AAA management really needs to change that policy. Unreasonable and unnecessary. read more

This weekend, the battery died in our car. We called AAA for help with a jump start or a tow, whichever was needed. After waiting an hour, we got called by a tow truck in Fairbanks Alaska. Our car was in Fairfax, Virginia. We had no idea how that happened: we told told them our address and the name of the business where the car was stuck. We called AAA to provide our actual address, and an hour later, they had made no progress in finding a tow truck in our actual location. They were not trying very hard either: they only contacted three tow truck companies in that hour. They said they would reimburse us if we wanted to call a tow company on our own, but refused to tell us how much we could be reimbursed for. ($5? 10?) And when we asked to speak with a manager, they put us on hold for 15 minutes without connecting us to someone. At that point, we realized AAA had no interest in helping us and took care of it on our own. I understand it can be hard to get roadside assistance. But at minimum, AAA should try to provide road side assistance in the state where you are located. read more

I came in for an oil change and was told that I needed 4 new tires because they were worn and had uneven wear. The technician obviously did not even look at all tires because I bought 2 new tires in August for my care to pass inspection which were on the rear of the vehicle. How can you trust this place if they are giving me a bogus recommendation for tires that I don't even need. I am writing this after being left over 2 hours on side of the road in need of assistance. After 3 calls, all initiated by me, I am now told they are having trouble finding me a tow truck. The first call, at 530 pm, I told the dispatcher my vehicle information and that I need a rollback. I was informed a truck would be there in 20 minutes. After an hour I call a second time and was told I am 3rd on the list and a truck will be there at 730pm. When I call a 3rd time at 730pm I am told we are having trouble finding someone to tow your car. So now at 8pm I am arranging for a truck on my own because clearly AAA, who I have paid to help me when stranded, has very much stranded me. To make it worse I signed up for text messages so there was no excuse for keeping me in the dark and now literally I am in the dark on the side of the road trying to find my own way to get my car home. My first experience with AAA (note: we used the Tysons location) was when my husband and I used them to book our honeymoon. It was a pretty painless process, and the AAA agent was helpful (for the most part). One thing that was NOT helpful was the hotel she booked us in the night before the cruise left. We flew into Barcelona and were staying the night before the cruise left the next day. We caught a cab at the airport and let the driver know where to take us. He drove through the center of Barcelona, and we kept thinking "wow, we're staying in the heart of Barcelona, how awesome!"...but then he kept driving...and driving...and driving until we reached the outskirts of the city in what looked like a less-than-average area with a LOT of construction. Yes, THAT'S where our hotel was. We were not impressed. No issues with the rest of the trip, but I admit that soured us a bit. read more

I have been a AAA platinum member for several years. Last July 2017 I needed a battery for my car and used AAA mobile service for the first time. They charged me $148.40 for the least expensive battery they carried.. which was higher than I hoped for but it was easy. AAA sent me an email the next day thanking me for taking advantage of the complimentary battery service that was part of my platinum AAA membership program and now 10 months later I am still trying to get my money back from them. I have sent all of my documents to AAA on several different occasions which have included my invoice as well as the email from AAA saying I'm supposed to get my battery for free! They have made me so angry and dissatisfied with the customer service I had to share my experience! The agents have told me Excuse after excuse I guess they think I'm stupid! I have been told via email and on the phone The check is in the mail so many times I lost count! I don't ever think I am going to receive my $148.40 which is really unfortunate since it is AAA which I thought was a reputable company that would follow through on their promise to their loyal Platinum members! I am a AAA platinum member. I am writing this to commend the staff at AAA Tire and Auto 8037, 9400 Main Street, Fairfax, VA 22031. I was heading Southbound on I-495 just past the exit for I-66 in Fairfax, VA on my way to Virginia Beach. It was very early in the morning, roughly 7 a.m. Suddenly, I hit something in the middle of the highway which caused damage to my car. I immediately exited the highway and called AAA. Within 30 minutes there was a flatbed at my location with the driver (Tom) advising me the repair station was less than 3 miles up the road and open. The staff there were "EXTREMELY" pleasant and knowledgeable. Ms. Deborah Moorehead was my service representative and Mr. Eric McKenzie was my technician. Mr. McKenzie not only is a first class technician but is also a consummate professional! His technical matched with is customer service skills make him management material in my book. Once he took my car into the garage, he had the issue diagnosed and corrected within a couple of hours. To me, just an all around great guy and people person. Can I give less..... AAA refused to replace my battery under the Premier AAA Service plan that I bought and paid for. Corporate AAA left me stranded. Premier AAA Service plan is very pricey but comes with one free bad battery replacement. AAA left me with no running truck. AAA said, I had to pay them twice what I pay for a battery from the auto parts store or I am without transportation to where I needed to go. I talked with two AAA reps on the phone and both were kind of rude, short with me and had admittedly very little knowledge about cars and how they work but consistently and repeatedly stated my car had a charging issue even though the truck would not start, would not crank AT ALL. I tested the truck MYSELF with the AAA service tech watching (Chris, whom was a very nice young man, professional and courteous) and very quickly and easily determined and proved NOTHING was wrong with my charging system. AAA STILL REFUSED to replace the bad battery and left me without a usable truck to get where I needed to go. There I was, STUCK and could not use the truck to get done what I needed. In my opinion, this is very deceptive business practice. This is from the AAA website: "Free Battery Replacement-Limited to one (1) battery per household per membership year, if a AAA Mobile Battery Service test during a roadside service call indicates a replacement is needed" CLEARLY THE BATTERY WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. So I decided to give the AAA Fairfax (VA) Car Care Center a go and it's definitely met the standard I've grown accustomed to. Great customer service, one stop shop, good service and repair, reasonable rates and a small discount if you're a member. I'll be back when the need arises and happy to recommend others. This place is horrible at least for today must be a very bad day for them completely unorganized I stood in line got checked in went to pick up some tickets and ask about an upcoming trip to get some information about the country we are going to visit. They told me to sit and wait for a travel agent the lady calls somebody else's name then asks me what I want I tell her and she says oh we have nothing for that country which I know was totally not true then she directs me back to the reception area to get the maps that the prior reception guide did not provide I asked about discounts to historical landmarks within the country we were going to go to...oh no we don't have anything on that country and yet two years earlier I was here and got all kinds of information on a neighboring country, which our country had included. We switched from Geico Auto Insurance to AAA four years ago because the rate's were so much lower. However, on July 7th we received copies of notes in the mail that had been sent to our auto finance companies that said our auto insurance had been cancelled for nonpayment. Our payment was due on July 26th and I paid it through electronic banking on July 22nd. The money had been taken out of the account. Although it was a Saturday at 6pm, I thought I should be able to find someone to help me. The best I could do was find a claims agent who said he would leave a note for someone to get back to me on Monday. In the meantime, my 21 year old daughter was at work and would be driving home uninsured. I called Geico and had insurance within 30 minutes. When i called AAA on Monday morning, they said yes I'd been cancelled for nonpayment and did I want to reinstate my policy. When I said I had paid they looked it up and said they only had my "renewal payment". When it dawned on the rep that we had paid our renewal on time, she didn't know what to say. When I asked why you would not call or e-mail me if they thought the policy would lapse (especially after four years of on-time payments),she said they were not set up to do that. Today I got the refund check in the mail of my policy renewal premium MINUS THE PROCESSING FEE! Bad service, bad policies, bad bad experience. Steer clear of these guys they don't know what they're doing. PS....they also "cancelled" our homeowners even though the bank paid it on time and last year messed up an automatic deduction. They clearly have no clue what they're doing. I shudder to think about actually needing to process a claim. read more
