The dispatcher made it easy to make arrangements with Juan, and Juan was terrific in all ways. He was there as soon as we went outside with our bags, drove us home in a nice clean and roomy SUV, and was very cordial. I highly recommend Murphy Taxi and Juan. When I next need a taxi, I will definitely request Juan for my driver. Curb hail from the airport. Car's clean enough - I mean, it's 14 minutes of my life, right? - but…read morethe non-standardized fleet hits me like a vinyled-up gypsy whip. No visible medallions, with only the small pricing placard facing inside (and the meter itself) to convince you it's legit. The meter on this thing is astronomical: a 4 mile, 10 minute ride finished out at $21 excluding tip. Which I tried to pay, but the driver couldn't make change on $30. Asked why there was a $2 surcharge on the ride, and he said, "Oh, because of the luggage and things." By this, he meant my laptop bag, which never left my side. Asked for a receipt and when the printer jammed, he said he couldn't print out another copy. So, I have a strip of paper that says CAB24HR.COM CAB at the top, the date, and a hand written $21 as my proof of ride, and the knowledge that UberX is truly less than 50% of the going taxi rate in Gainesville. At least there was no puke surcharge, bro.
