I had racked up a few non-serious tickets and got the dreaded letter from the DMV telling me I needed to take a Driver Improvement Clinic, so, via their website, I came across AA Driving Academy. From the beginning, they made things especially easy. Not only can you attend a class almost anywhere in the Northern Virginia area, the instructions, schedule, payment options and requirements were all easily found, and, since I had no idea what sort of infractions/points/increased insurance premiums/etc. I was looking at, I was really appreciative of their straight-forward website which listed everything I needed to know. Naturally, I was assuming the class itself was going to amount to an entire Saturday down the drain, but I can honestly say the content and structure wasn't *nearly* as dry or difficult to get through as I had been dreading. My instructor JJ (who I really can't recommend highly enough!) began the class right off the bat letting us know he wanted to take a really focused approach that dialed into things we don't usually consider or take for granted while driving, so this amounted to a lot of insightful and dynamic discussion rather than the dry, from-a-book content I was expecting. Truthfully, I gained a lot from the course in terms of perspective, understanding some often-made errors I make while driving and ways to improve them, which surprised me. JJ ended by going through the concluding logistics: he let us know they would let the DMV know we had completed the course, told us how long it would take to get into the DMV system, and suggested we reach out to the DMV and our insurance providers just to make sure all bases were covered. I had gone into the class thinking I'd need to pummel the instructor with questions about how this works, when the DMV/my insurance would be notified/who would need to send our certificate of completion, but he took care of it all. I'm writing this review because I honestly believe that quality work deserves praise. AA Driving Academy made a really positive impression on me, and JJ was professional, dynamic, insightful, supportive, clear and helpful. It/he has my highest recommendation! read more

I'm an 18 year old in high school and I was charged with reckless driving (89mph/50mph). This was my first ticket and I was in Fairfax County. I had my charge REDUCED TO SPEEDING and accrued only a $250 fine, all because of AA Driving. I signed up with AA Driving expecting 8 hours of pure agony and a repeat of high school Driver's Ed which is mainly just common sense rules. Boy was I wrong. My instructor Ali, spent a lot of time reviewing each of my fellow classmates' cases one-by-one in way that was extremely informative, helpful, and entertaining to the class. He told us exactly what consequences we were facing in each of our cases, and how to best go about minimizing them. After this, we briefly skimmed the common sense material and watched a couple videos, which weren't so bad. In my case, Ali told me to do community service, take the additional 4-hour reckless/aggressive driving class with AA, and have the lawyer show my school transcript and UVA admission letter to the prosecutor to show that I was a good student/citizen. The above recommendations were suggested along with having my speedometer calibrated, taking the 8 hour DIP class, and ordering my updated (5+) driving record from the DMV. Ali told me that if I did everything he suggested, I would most definitely have the charge reduced. And he was right!!! I had to go in and complete the 8 hour driving course due to a late ticket payment. I was expecting to go in and have to survive this 8hr class, while taking nothing away from it (learning nothing new). However, as soon as I arrived, all of the employees were so very welcoming and down to Earth. Kaz (the instructor) was easily one of the friendliest and most genuine guys I've met. He connects to each and every person in a personal manner, and he teaches EXACTLY what you need to learn about safe driving techniques. He's humorous, and makes every minute of class super fun. He finished up the class by saying "I want to do more than just instruct, I want to change people, and change myself through them", and he couldn't have done a better job at doing so. I'm 19 years old and I left the class wanting to drive so much more safe and cautiously, I never would've expected to learn that trait in my entire life. The fellow classmates were beautiful people, I created so many friendships in those 8 hours and took more than just driving skills home, but many new views on life as a whole. I took a court mandated 8 hr Driver Safety course from the AA Driving Academy on Oct. 6th, 2013 at the Marriott Hotel in Arlington. I only drive once a year and managed to get a speeding ticket in the ten minutes I drove over the past year. Needless to say, I was dreading the class, and since I don't drive and got married in the same month, it was difficult to find time to attend it. Once I did though, I was relieved at how easy it was. Don't dread it. Our instructor was a fellow named JJ who was an incredibly good public speaker--he treated the subject seriously and obviously cared a good deal about it (ie, he wasn't punching a paycheck)--that said, he was also friendly and easy to listen to. Often folks doing these sorts of things aren't. Nobody goes to something like this for fun--you're either doing it for points or because someone told you to. That said, it wasn't bad at all. I showed up "angry at The Man" and left in a relatively good mood, though I did immedietely get into an argument with my ride for trying to text while driving on the ride home. read more

I have taken the 8 hour class twice now and the experience has been very different in the two instances. The first time the instructor provided a very dry and boring class where he read the information at us and got us to write the notes to prepare us for the quiz at the end. The second time I took the class with JJ from AA Driving Academy, he was obviously very invested in teaching the class actual lessons to make us safer and "defensive drivers". He got us to understand the importance of driving defensively and truly got the message across to us. I thought that I was a good driver but I have had 2 speeding tickets and about 4 minor to semi major accidents. It's almost like denial but it was after this class with JJ that I truly understood the importance of driving safely and defensively, so my advice is to take this class whether you are told to by the court or DMV,like I was, or not. In addition, get your speedometer calibrated, 20+hrs community service and 2 recent awards or character reference letters.. Surprisingly I had major fun taking this class. Kaz made it feel like we were friends just talking about our trials and tribulations of driving. He explained how each person could navigate the courts they were dealing with, which I did not expect. We watched some videos from the 90's (as expected) and discussed them in really relaxed manner. At no time did he make any person feel bad for being there. I would recommend AADA to anyone that needs the Reckless or Driver Improvement class. The only way to have a bad time in one of Kaz's classes would be to bring a negative attitude to the class. FYI, the class was so cool and fun that when Kaz said we could leave we were surprised that it was time to go. read more

I had JJ for my class and it was great. I expected to go in and just get some statistics regurgitated at me from slides but that wasn't the case. As a current college student I sit through a lot of lectures and some are better than others and the thing that makes the biggest difference is the lecturer's interest in the topic. JJ is actually invested in this cause and he isn't there to just say don't speed (why everyone was there today) but he went beyond hat and actually got me thinking about what I do behind the wheel and what can go wrong. Hopefully I don't have to go back but I would recommend this course even for first time drivers or if you have to do it by DMV or court order. read more

My son received an invitation from DMV to attend a DIP class; as I could use several additional good driving points I decided to risk a Saturday and attend also. My instructor was JJ. JJ made what I thought would be a slow, boring day into one of entertainment and learning. He was personable, engaging and informative. The attendees all were participating in dialog, conversation and learning. AA Academy's DIP class was a combination of dialog, videos and lecture; with a quiz at the end. The class was broken into several sections and breaks. JJ made the time fly by. I highly recommend AA Academy, and JJ! I'll be back in two years for another 5 positive good driving points. read more

If you are required to take a driving education class, and or are attending for your own reasons, I would reccommend JJ with the AA Driving Academy. The class is not taught line by line through the book, but with personal experiences and interaction between the students and instructor, which makes the class more interesting and personable/ relative to your life! It is very information and helpful as well, taught by both Lectures and their corresponding sectional videos. I'm glad I decided to take this class versus the other options available, as this class was required to me, but yet again, was relevant - but interesting. Don't even look at the other classes!!! On 6/30/13, I attended a defensive class with AA Driving Academy, Inc. in Herndon VA, and in my opinion, the course as given/taught appears to me as being "2nd to none". The instructor, Mr. Ali Kazmi, deserve all credit that's due relative to the given course. He inspires students, including myself, in a manner that makes us all want to learn how to be better drivers. Our instructor was J.J. As an instructor, he was well-prepared and engaging. Instead of it being a dreary Sunday of a teacher reading through a book, he mixed up the course materials with videos, anecdotes, and discussion with the rest of the class. Some of the videos shown were very graphic, which really drove home the message to improve my driving. A lot of the instructions on how to improve my driving were straightforward and obvious, yet they are practices I have either ignored or not bothered to think about for a few years. I suggest this class for anyone looking for remind them of dangers of driving and how to improve. read more

Run, don't walk from this place. Not only do the memories of their torturous, uninformative 8 hour class still haunt me at night, but they also failed to report my completion of the class to the courts despite promising to do so. Thus resulting in my conviction of the ticket in addition to the 80 dollars I had to pay the academy to hold me captive for 8 hours while telling me non-sense. In the words of my fellow prisoner "Man, this the worst day of my life!" I really couldn't have said it better myself. I took the 8hr 2 day evening driving impovement course at AA Driving. First of all, the time schedule fit perfectly with my busy lifestyle. The staff are all nice and involved with your current situation and give good recommendations. The instructor was very informative and the materials used in this course are definitely eye wakening experiences. This class is not a waste of time because you learn that driving is the most dangerous thing we do on a daily bases and most importantly how fragile life is. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone whether ordered by DMV or just for your knowledge. read more

My reckless driving ticket was dismissed thanks to them! No points, no fines, kept my license and no jail time. All I can say is go to court prepared and isten to instructors advice! I went to court with certificates from 8 hr Drivers Improvent Course, 4 hr Reckless Driving Course, certified copy of driving record from DMV, spedometer calibration, pled no contest, and apologized to trooper in front of the judge. I took the drivers Improvement 8 hour course at the Holiday Inn in Manasssas, My instructors name was Jay Jay. I highly reccomend you take this class, whether its for points or because its issued to you. The class is very imformitive, and very interesting! Jay Jay interacts with the class very well! He keeps it interesting and to the point, very real. The course is not boring, it keeps you interested and you also get a great amount of knowledge from it! My instructor's name was Ali and I found him to be very cordial, informative and easy to learn from. His ability to break the ice and relax the class as a group made it easier to absorb information and participate through the class. The aspect of the class that helped me tremendously was how Ali facilitated the information share among the members of the class, which brought the objectives of the class into far better focus. If I elect to gain 5 good driving points two years from now, I would choose to go with AA Driving Academy and most importantly in Ali's class. read more

On 12/22/2013, I took an AA Driving Academy eight-hour class. J.J. was the class instructor who really provided indepth insight and tear-jerking videos that made the class participant think about their actions on the road. In addition, J.J. used a lot of tangible examples of why accidents happen i.e. excessive speed, alcohol, drugs, and sleep depreciation that cause accidents in the United States. I have been working towards getting my license with AA Driving Academy the past few months, and my experience has been great! The driver's ed portion is informative and allows you to complete the 36 hours at your own pace. Behind-the-wheel has been great too: I've been able to complete all my sessions quickly. Kaz was my instructor and he was very good: pointing out errors in a way that helps you learn but is not condescending.
