I learned that Martin had released a new mahogany guitar (the D-17) and I really wanted to play one…read moreto see if I might want to trade one of my Martins to buy one, or perhaps even buy one outright. I found out there was one in the area, located at Reno's Music. I had never heard of this establishment before but I saw on their website that they have a lot of Martin guitars in their inventory. So when my husband and I were in the general neighborhood, we decided to stop in and have a look. This turned out to be a really bad idea. I have been playing guitar for 55 years and my husband also for nearly as long. My father was an Indianapolis jazz guitarist who will be inducted into the Indianapolis Jazz Hall Of Fame in 2026. I have been visiting guitar stores since I was a little girl, and never have I been treated so rudely EVER. There was one guy working there, and zero customers. Most guitar shops are lively, upbeat places filled with music but this was basically an office with a storeroom of what looked to be a zillion boxed-up guitars. I asked this person if he had a D-17 because I was interested in playing one. He launched into this gatekeeper routine that would have made my father laugh with scorn and then turn around and head straight out the door. This guy said, "First we're going to have a little conversation". What??? I thought this was a business and I just wanted to see a guitar! He wanted to know our names. I thought wtf? Our names won't mean anything to you? But I gave them, first and last, and then he replied that his name was Mark. Okay fine, whatever. Do you play? he wanted to know. Okay, why would I even be in a place like that if I didn't play? I was playing before this guy was even thought of! Well, after I replied yes, we both do, he condescended to let me try the guitar. It was a very nice guitar but I had already made up my mind that I would not be buying a $1 kazoo off this guy. I played one more guitar there and we left. Needless to say, I will take my money and my business elsewhere. I am still in the market for a high-end Martin but thankfully there are many other guitar stores in the Indianapolis area that are far more welcoming and treat their customers like they want their business - NOT like they are doing them some kind of a favor just letting them in the door. I've seen other reviews left by people who had much the same experience with Reno's Music, so it wasn't just us, it's how this place is, unfortunately.

I've been taking amps and pedal boards to Uncle Albert's since 2007. My brand new Fender Twin…read morearrived damaged, he fixed it under warranty, no charge. I turned my Marshall TSL up to 10 one night and literally burned it up (dimmed all the lights in the house, heard a pop, no sound, then smelled smoke). He had to clean up the board inside due to carbon deposits, replaced a power transformer, soldered in a number of capacitors, etc. and re-tubed it. He charged me about the same as if I bought the parts and did it myself. He fixed a couple of Vox Tonelab effects pedals for me. The last repair (12/2025) was on my Marshall JVM 410H that had a lot of noise. The tubes were fine, so he had to go over every component, every circuit, to eventually find it to be a $3 capacitor. What he charged me was way under what his time was worth, it plays beautifully now. He even texted me this morning to make sure the amp played well last night. Kevin doesn't just fix the problem, he goes over the entire amp, cleans all the electronics, even wraps up the freeking cord like it came new. I won't take my amps anywhere else.

A Place Where Music Comes to Life!…read more Our family has been part of the Bach to Rock community for years--since our kids were toddlers--and we can confidently say this music school is nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we first walked in, we were met with warmth, energy, and a true passion for music education. The instructors are not only incredibly talented musicians, but they also have a rare gift for connecting with kids at every age and stage. They know how to nurture creativity, build confidence, and make learning music genuinely fun. Over the years, our children have grown from curious little learners into confident young performers. They've explored everything from early childhood classes to private lessons, band programs, and live performances--all guided by caring, enthusiastic teachers who inspire them every step of the way. What sets Bach to Rock apart is their balance of structure and creativity. They teach solid music theory and technique, but also give kids the freedom to explore their own musical tastes--whether it's classical piano, rock guitar, or anything in between. The community here is vibrant and inclusive. The performance opportunities, recitals, and themed events make it feel like more than just a music school--it's a second home where our kids are encouraged to express themselves and shine. We're so grateful to have found Bach to Rock and can't recommend it highly enough. If you want your child to grow up loving music and learning in a joyful, inspiring environment, this is the place!

My daughters started taking lessons 2 years ago at Bach to Rock. At first, it was a good…read moreexperience. We were a bit discouraged with the young group piano class as during the down time in the class our daughter was instructed to color. While our youngest did not continue her interest in piano, even after switching to private lessons, our oldest daughter continued with drum lessons. At first, it was great, she really enjoyed it. Frustrating at times that the teacher she worked with for her private lessons kept changing or the teacher would leave. But we didn't say anything and went with the flow. Last summer she was ecstatic to be invited to an all girl "rock band." After members continued to leave and a few others joined, our daughter's voice continued to not be listened to. She felt ignored by the teacher, the teacher wouldn't consider her song requests - even though she was willing to compromise. The teacher much preferred the young group of girls play club like music (that's mostly electronic) instead of music more appropriate for a band to play. She missed rehearsal to visit an immediate family member in the hospital - only to come to the next rehearsal to learn song choices for the next performance were made without her and she was told she couldn't listen to the song before practicing and told to just try and keep up. When trying to talk with the owner about our concerns. We were told she'd look into alternative options. Only then to receive an email that she's been kicked out of the band and suddenly her private teacher was no longer going to be available for lessons - when she had a lesson literally the day before and he had great things to say as well as "see you next week!" It was clear to us we were getting pushed out. We tried to talk with the owner over the phone to discuss what happened but she refused and only wanted to email. It's disappointing as our daughter loves music and it was made clear to us that Bach to Rock is a safe and fun learning environment for children. It clearly wasn't for our daughter as she felt ostracized and instead of stepping in to ensure she felt welcomed, they kicked her out. Our daughter is quiet kid who never once misbehaved and was incredibly hurt feeling like she was treated like this by adults she looked up to and trusted.

Mixed experiences here. I've bought a couple of guitars and amps from them now. Their prices tend…read moreto be reasonable. Customer Service is a mixed bag, though. As mentioned, the owner's a little quirky. I think he means well, but doesn't know as much about guitars as he'd like. And he gets pretty defensive if he's not the one in the know on something. That's not the end of the world. But it's an odd experience in an exclusively USED instrument store. Because those of us who have been playing and collecting for decades are going to come in and occasionally have a little more knowledge on something obscure they've got in, etc. If someone with gray hair who knows how to disassemble and review an instrument comes in, it behooves you to trust that he understands it. They stand by their own intake inspection to a fault. If you find something they missed on their intake inspection--even if it's glaring like the guitar doesn't make sound when plugged in--then you've got an uphill battle to prove your case even if you haven't left the store with the instrument yet. If you're looking for a deal on something generic, I think this place will get you through alright. If you're collecting, then this place is probably going to weird you out a little.
