I requested service from A1A because the door only opened 4 inches. The Technician came the following morning, he pointed out the cable was shreaded. He then climbed a ladder to look and very quickly told me my motor was shot and i needed a whole new system. I made an appointment to get a new system. Then my friend urged me to postpone my appointment and have another company take a look. He told me why would your door go up and down 4 inches if it was the moter. I have a feeling it is just your cable. That made sense to me. I did have another company come out and sure enough, the A1A Technician lied to me. Heads up folks. A few weeks back our garage door opener failed. (Belted drive belt failed) I had A1A respond. Tech advised my belt drive was overtaxed and recommended I replace it with a chain drive.. Hmm maybe that's what's needed. $99 labor, $54.95 service call, chain drive part $317.00. Near $500. Like most honest folks, I have no problem paying for honest work etc. Ok Labor $99 for 1/2 hour, ok I guess. The service call, I called them and wasn't advised of the "Service Call" The chain drive part at retail is $105. I inquired A1A about this charge. Their answer, they buy all there parts, system at retail, then mark them up as they did to me? They said they have no wholesale suppliers only retail? Wonder why? Flat out thievery. You can check prices at Genie company to see retail, even local big box stores in my case would have been cheaper and most importantly Honest in prices of parts. read more

When I called yesterday to have a repairman come out they said he would be here by 2:00, showed up at 3:00. When the repairman showed up he said he would go to warehouse in the morning to pick up the torque kit and be here at 8:00. Had to call at 9:00 to see where he was said there was a Miscommunication between office staff and repairman but would be here by 10:00. However before he left yesterday I asked him what the total cost would be. He said $ 650.00 for torque kit/labor plus 90.00 service call. Today when work was complete he quoted me a new balance of $789.95. Then called the office to tell them I didn't agree to an additional $49.95. She said I must pay the additional 49.95 for the service call. I will never do business with this company or refer them due to this add on charge I was never told about. What makes me furious is I clearly asked what my total bill would be and it was quoted as $740.00 not $789.95!!!!! read more

I have a home I built in 1997. The original springs went bad a few years ago after 20+ years and I called A1A. They installed new springs and I asked why they were smaller than original and was told they put correct size not to worry. Well after a year, the door was hard to push up and seemed like springs were not working. I called them back and was shocked I had ti pay over $200 for them to work 5 minutes to adjust what they installed. Here we are now and door is doing same thing again and ruined the belt on my opener. I called them and yes, it will be another $200 to adjust crappy product they sold me and installed. I am going to find a new company and will not recommend them anymore. Used based on referral from a friend. I previously had the door "fixed" by another company but they could not do what was needed. The tech came out to look, confirmed what I thought and called in for confirmation. My door frame had wood rot, became unstable and made the entire door out of alignment. My husband started to search google for a garage repair facility and set up an appointment for the next day with A1A Overhead Door Company. They came by and immediately fixed my garage door at a reasonable price and we had it fixed in less than 24 hours that it broke! Now, it doesn't make a terrible sound anymore. There was an issue with the springs and thankfully the garage repair man from A1A had a spare in his truck. It took him a total of 2-3 hours to completely repair it. I don't respond well to threats. After seeing a "coupon" for this company in a local money saver magazine, I decided to call to schedule a "free" estimate to repair my squeaky garage door. Upon arrival of the tech, I was told the job would run about $150 for what would essentially be, a garage door tune-up. I was then told, that the "service fee" would be an additional $50 on top of the repair, whether the repair was performed or not. I presented the coupon which was, of course, not applicable since it only applied to jobs over $160. I inquired again regarding the service fee - as with so many other companies, it is understandable to charge a service fee if a tech has taken the time to come out and diagnose a problem without the patron actually agreeing on repair at the time of the call. It is however, not understandable that a service fee would still be applied and not waived after a tech was already physically at the location of repair and that said repair was agreed upon to be completed on site. After calling the office staff to inquire about the service fee being waived since we were indeed agreeable to the repairs, I was told that it would not be waived and if service was performed or not performed the service fee will remain. And here's where it gets even better. After merely inquiring about the waiving of the fee, I was then threatened that this company would in fact place a lien on my property if the bill was not paid. Excuse me? Who ever said the bill would not be paid? Again, I do not respond well to threats. And to me, this was a threat. How dare this company speak to patrons this way. It is absolutely disgusting. Furthermore, while the tech was whistling while he worked, I called Precision Garage Door of Jax to merely request a quote for garage door tune up. I was immediately informed they too had a service fee of $50 and that the fee for tune up is $98 - which was their repair limits to waive said fee. So in total, this same job would have cost me a total of $98 - and before you say it or even THINK it - yes, they were also able to schedule same day service. The moral of this review is Live and Learn. Do your due diligence and get quotes prior to scheduling promised free estimates. A1A Overhead Door company is grossly overcharging their clients and would-be clients and practicing extortion. read more

On 2/25/20 A1A came out to replace 2 wall buttons. They were replaced with Genie units. Each unit was $120 this is not including labor and service call. After googling the cost of the units and found them online for $27 each on the Genie site, I called the company and inquired why the huge markup. I understand they are a business and need to have inventory available, storage costs, etc. but almost a 450% markup! I asked the owner to call me to discuss the charge. As of 2/28 I have not received a call. I have used this company on 2 previous occasions and found them reasonable. Worst company ever! I scheduled them to fix my door. They said they would be there between 4-6pm. They never said I personally had to be there. My daughter was home and showed them the door that needed to be fixed. They refused to fix it without me there. I was on a conference call which ended at 4:17, then I called them immediately. Their tech stated I have wasted his time and left without fixing the door. I called the office to report the employee and they also stated I wasted their time - so much for that! They sent me a bill for $140 ($50 service call, $90 missed appointment fee) and threatened to put a lien on my home (even though they never even looked at my garage door). They are hostile people top to bottom. There are 50+ garage door repair companies - don't use these guys. In July 2022 purchased Liftmaster (my request they do not have on trucks) after chain broke on old one. At time they came out 7/22 said gear was stripped needed new system. 2 weeks ago noticed chain "sagging" slightly -- tech yesterday said motherboard bad in head and bolt on "arm" connected to garage door was loose/too small from original install by them. Ordered head. New technician came out to install. I asked if I get new one year warranty on head. Told no. Also had to pay $95 labor fee. Asked owner to call me. He did. Only gives his first name as "Jimmy". Energy is horrible. Fast speech. Gives analogy of me buying a car with 36,000 mile warranty & part being fixed at 20,000 miles you don't get new warranty. I said that's a bad analogy price wise. He is more argumentative. I said all I'm asking for is a reset of 1 year warranty on the head. He says no. (The only 2 things left 2 break from the work on 7/22 are chain and one piece metal bar (unsure how it would break). I choose A1A at the recommendation of my mother-in-law, who'd found them to be trustworthy and honest in making recommendations (did not try to up sell her). The staff at A1A are extremely professional and responsive. I had a lot of questions in advance of choosing my door, and all questions were answered timely and thoroughly. Once I picked my door, the owner even sent me a picture of his own door as I'd selected exactly what he has. Company name sounded familiar; I think they possibly also serviced the condo where I used to live. They made an appointment for the next day and were on time. The technician did his assessment and provided me an estimate of what we needed done. Considering we live at the beach, it was no surprise our springs needed replacing. I'd have to dig out the bill to remember what our final estimate was, but I do remember being satisfied with the cost of what he was going to work on for us. Some of the supports across the door were bent and had to be straightened along with replacing the springs. Oh and that steel bar? Apparently he's NEVER seen one broken and was so impressed that ours did break and that something else hadn't given out sooner that he replaced that part for free. First, after 4 changes in the day of appt. time, a newly trained tech came who misdiagnosed what the problem was. Instead of taking into consideration the garage door motor was 20+ years old as I'd stated, he felt it was a garage door remote control issue. Relying on his assessment, purchased 3 remotes, 59.00 each (total of $173.34)for which I was charged 90.00 to program them and a 49.00 service call. The total bill came to $313.29. Continued to have issues with weak signal from motor, called company, discussed continuing issues and inquired about what motors they sold. After research, determined none they discussed met my needs. With the previous changes in appt. times and finding none of the newly purchased remotes would work with a new garage door motor, had concerns about hiring again. Called office to discuss, they said I needed to speak with owner. Left messages, not returned. Finally reached owner by calling before 8:30am almost a month later. The owner was rude, shouting and non-receptive to problems caused by his tech's misdiagnosis. Offered no solution and hung up on me. The comparison between the company who accurately diagnosed the issue (Precision) was striking. They also did not charge the 4% credit card fee that A1A charges. The new tech didn't know how to program my vehicle remote. I showed him how it was done. In summary, am left with 3 obsolete garage door openers and fees to program them. Total of 313.00 wasted, and surprise that a company would take such advantage of an elderly customer and a business owner who is rude, shouts, bullying and whom one can't carry on a conversation with about issues encountered. No customer respect. Buyer beware. If they make a misdiagnosis and you purchase remotes, they will not work with new garage door openers motors if one is later required. They wouldn't allow return of obsolete garage door openers which is all I was trying to do because of misdiagnosis of garage door opening issues. read more

We just had our door replaced by American Garage (Great company!) and this is when I found out what happened in May of 2015 when A1A Overhead Door replaced our LiftMaster Garage door opener. Immediately after A1A replaced it, the controls never properly worked, most of the time it would go up, but you had to hold down the button on the main panel until it fully closed. Immediately after installation, my wife called the company and spoke with the owner, whom was very rude to her and never came back out to address the issue. When American Garage came out to replace our garage door, I told the gentleman that we had the opener replaced in '15 and it has never properly worked. Come to find out that one of the sensors was bad; he said that anytime a new system is installed, new sensors come with it, these were the original sensors, which were 19 years old at the time. So, screw me once, but never twice... go elsewhere!!! read more
