whatever you do absolutely do not take your vehicle here my husband transmission went out We found this place online called and got a quote. Drop the truck off and paid $2500 and the rest was due when the truck was picked up They eventually called us back stating that there was an another part that needed to be replaced and my Husband then dropped off $200 and got a receipt. we waited months hearing nothing back from them. One day, my husband is driving down the road and sees his truck parked at a completely different spot. at Herbert's automotive down the road we called A1 several times and eventually just decided to go to the shop where the truck was parked. Hubert then expressed to us that The owner of A1 had got arrested for not paying child support & A1 had been shut down and lost their building due to some financial issues and that A1 was now using his building in the back. He stated that The person we paid the money too, nobody knows where the money went. the guy we paid it to did not use the money for the truck like it was supposed to. and when they moved buildings, nobody know what happened to the old transmission that in the truck. At this point, we had a gutted truck with no transmission and out of $2700 Hubert and the guy at A1 said oh okay well we can fix it for you but you will have to pay Hubert the $2500 to fix what A1 messed up. but sorry A-1 lost your money. so we decided to take it as a loss we got the truck towed back to our house now we have a truck that's completely gutted no transmission there was trash and dip cans all inside of the truck like they had packed up a hurry. we have the proof, receipts and text messages so we are taking legal actions, but the process has been tough & long I wanted to leave an open honest review about this place. If I could give a zero star I would. I brought my car in because it wouldn't turn on and this place was the only one open. They initially told me it would be ready by the end of the day and as the day went on there was no communication. The following day there was still no communication. I tried calling multiple times with no answer. Eventually by 8pm I got a call saying it would be ready by 9:30 and they would drop it off. I woke up the next day for work at 5am and my car wasn't there. I called many many times throughout the day until 2pm. I had to call the non-emergency police number because I thought my car was stolen or being scrapped. He finally reached out to me saying it was done. To make matters worse my car smelled awful, so much smoke. Dennis definitely smoked in my car and left half drank Mountain Dew cans in the backseat. He also used up a quarter of my gas tank, never telling me he drove it at all. Overall awful experience. Never go here. read more

Worst service ever, and they don't return phone calls. My mom had a Ford Freestlye that they let sit for 9 months, and then called and said the car was fixed, but it never got fixed, so they lied and said that she brought it in there for a noise, when clearly she brought it up there for her transmission, and she paid them $1500 and her car is still in the same shape from when she dropped it off 9 months ago. They won't return her money, saying they fixed the issue. Who will pay $1500 for some noise. They must think someone is stupid. I told my mom to call better business on them, and it's obvious that they have more claims, because when we called we didn't even have to give them a name, the lady said his name before we could get it out. I would advise everyone, if y'all have an issue with your transmission do not bring it here, because they will rip you off. I told my mom that she could get a rebuilt transmission for $1800, and they try to say she couldn't which I know was a lie too. My personal experience was opposite of the first review. I dealt most directly with Dennis and he was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. My cars transmission blew and out of all the places I called in Lynchburg, this was one of the cheapest quotes I was given. They also picked up my vehicle from where it was for no extra charge which was incredibly helpful as towing in Lynchburg generally isn't cheap. They fixed my car in about a week and gave me a couple year warranty on the part. Overall: great experience and if I need body work I will be returning here. read more

Seems like every review for this place is either five stars or one. I do believe the five star experiences are real, but unfortunately not for me. Got a new head gasket put in my Honda Civic, along with a water pump and timing belt. The job only took them two days, which I thought was awesome, but in hindsight, should've been a huge red flag. Driving away from the shop, my car was making a terrible noise (like engine knock combined with a star slurping). I called them about it and they told me "not to worry about it". When the sound persisted, I brought it back. After a LOT of pressure from me and my car-guru friend, they did clean the rocker arms and sort of, kind of, attempt to solve the problem, but it didn't work. So I've been driving it for a few months with this horrible sound, waiting for the engine to implode, when all of a sudden... It's overheating again! What's that? All the same symptoms of the exact head gasket leak I had before? Interesting. Give them a call. "Oh it's not our fault. We did it right. There's no way we messed it up. And we don't do warranties on head gaskets." They seem helpful and nice, but what bothers me most is their refusal to take responsibility for anything - or even acknowledge something MIGHT be their fault. At this point I'm just getting rid of my car. Anyone want a '99 Civic with a blown head gasket and marbles in the engine? read more

Dennis replaced my transmission 4 months ago. It came with a warranty, so when it went out being only 4 months I took it back there to fix. It took them 8 WEEKS to finally look at it. Each week he would tell me lies on why they had not looked at it. He even pretended to act like it was his brother ( not sure if he even has one) to make excuses on not fixing my vehicle. When I call ( on the land line number) he would say he was somewhere else and would not talk. Should not be that stupid to think people believe his lies. ONCE he finally got around to fixing my vehicle, he said it had all these things wrong with it just to get money out of me since the transmission was under warranty he was not getting any for that. People, this place use to do great work but not anymore. Do not go through the same experience I went through and take your vehicle somewhere else. read more

terrible service, I pulled the transmission and had them rebuild it, I had to go back to pick up parts they left off my transmission 4 times. it's a 1.5 hour ride one way for me. I am still waiting for them to find my fill tube so I can install this. read more

I have to say the team at A1 transmissions helped my mom with her car for servicing. the pricing was just right. she really needed the work done and the dealership wanted and arm and a leg.
