So the latch on my LG pedestal washer broke, and I needed that replaced. As it turns out LG does not sell just the latch but the entire door- which means the job would be much more complicated then I thought. I looked around and came across Brian's number which was listed by a neighbor on NextDoor. I checked his Yelp page, not only did he have one but it was solid. I left a message for Brian and he called me back within the hour. I gave him the details and he said he would call me back later looking it up. An hour later he calls me back and said that the pedestal washer was actually not something that he's familiar with and therefore wouldn't feel comfortable working on it. What a stand up kind of guy! He did what he said he was going to do (called me back when he said he would) and he was up front and completely honest about not being familiar with this type of washer. In fairness, I couldn't give Brian 5 stars because I actually didn't use him, however I do want to still leave him a solid review for his customer service. I'm sure that had I been able to use him, he would have gotten 5 stars. I'll be keeping his number handy for when I(or someone I know in the area) need him in the future. Oh! My dishwasher stopped working. It just went blank on the control panel and I was unable to reset it to bring it back to life. I searched the internet and found A1 Speeds Appliance Repair. I called and talked to Brian (the owner?). Brian told me he could come out and look at it and that it would be a $95 dollar service charge that would apply to the repair, if it could be repaired. Brian showed up the next day, took the control panel off, unplugged the main board and shook some dead bugs out of it. He figured the circuit board was bad but I suggested he plug it back in and we look again just in case the bugs had been shorting it out. To my pleasant surprise it worked! Brian reassembled the front panel and tested the washer and all was good. The entire process took less then 45 minutes. Brian then proceeded to write up a work order and charged me $295 for the service call. I reminded him of the $95 service call he had quoted me and that he did not replace any parts or really 'fix' anything other than just unplugging about 4 connectors from the main circuit board and then plugging them back in. I told him I was not happy with the charge at all so he relented and discounted it by $45. I ended up paying $250 for a 45-minute service call after having originally being quoted $95. As I was preparing to pack for a trip late last night, I realized that my dryer was heating up but not tumbling. GRRR. In case you don't know, new dryers run right around $1000. I did the google thing and the youtube thing, and realized that while I likely could do fix the belt (if it actually was the belt, not the motor), it was actually far more efficient for me to hire an experienced, qualified professional (with the right tools, materials and know-how) to quickly resolve the issue. I prefer to work with local, small businesses - so this morning first thing at 8 am, my first call was to A1 Speedy Appliance Repair. Brian answered the call personally, took my information and told me he'd be at my house this morning. He arrived promptly, just 90 minutes after we spoke. He diagnosed the problem, fixed the belt on my dryer and serviced the machine in 15 minutes. Money well spent on my 20-year-old Maytag workhorse. Personally, I really appreciate his decades of experience and his calm, professional and pleasant demeanor as well as how quickly and efficiently he handled the job. I called this company because the knob on my dryer had broken and would not turn. Brian came out and in less than 5 minutes he had gone to his truck, got a new knob, and put it on the dryer. When he gave his invoice to me he had charged $195 for his labor. Again, the entire job took less than 5 minutes. In addition to this extremely high labor charge, he charged $119 for the plastic knob. When I questioned him about his charges for such a simple job he adjusted the invoice from $303 down to $241. I will not be calling A-1 Speedy Appliance again for any repairs nor will I ever recommend him to anyone. read more

The do come out quickly but over charge by a mile. I was charged $100 to replace the rubber lining in my dishwasher. It doesn't fit correctly, still leaks, and retails for $9.95. The $100 was on top of the $69 service charge. I know they get some labor in there but it took him 30 seconds to put in and like I said doesn't fit and still leaks. I am just buying a new washing machine but will definitely not call this outfit again! read more

My inlaws just used Brian (owner) for the first time. They were pleased with his promptness and service. They have an old refrigerator that they love, so wanted to get it repaired. To change the thermostat, melt a block of ice on the coils, labor it came to $279. I'm not sure how reasonable that price is. I called A1 after I had bought a part for my washer that I thought I could fix myself. Unfortunately repairing an older washing machine is sometimes easier said than done. I called around to a number of repair companies and while they would repair the washer, they would not use the part I purchased myself. When I talked to the owner of A1 (Brian) he told me he had no problem using the part I purchased if it was indeed the part needed for the repair. He told me what to expect and that if another part was needed, he would get the part to complete the repair. Brian arrived on time and told me I was fortunate to have the correct part and he was able to get the repair done fast. I've learned my lesson of attempting DIY on an appliance without a manual. I wasted almost 2 weeks ordering a part myself, waiting to receive it and attempting to do a repair. It's good to know there are companies like A1 that will finish a repair for us DIYers. What's worse than a broken washing machine with 2 kiddos and 2 dogs and a husband? Well lots of things, but a broken washer is certainly a pain. I called these guys to see about getting my machine repaired since I really wasn't trying to spend a bizillion dollars on a new one. $69 service call, pretty standard, and goes towards the cost of any repair work they do. The repair guy Tim was very nice, prompt and professional. A little background, I had 20+ year old Maytags. Tim told me it was one of the best machines ever made and they don't make em like they used to. I'm not sure if that was legit, or just the repair man trying to sell his services but he was friendly enough. The estimate was too expensive for me, $350+. New pump, new belts, etc. Even after he called his boss to see if he could discount the parts it was still gonna be over $300 and on a 20 year old washer I wasn't feeling it. Ultimately I'd use them again if I needed repair services. They were up front and professional and seemed very competent at diagnosing the problem. Our refrigerator lost cooling power in the top half. Brian came out the very next morning which was great as groceries were melting. He diagnosed the problem as a fan and was so efficient that he stocked the part in his truck. No need for a 2nd visit! Had these guys come out to look at my dishwasher for two reasons: #1 top sprayer arm wasn't moving #2 it leaks water when you run it They come out, I explain to the technician, just like I did to the owner when I placed the call initially, that I had already disassembled most of the dishwasher because I looked up the top sprayer arm problem online and they said it was most likely caused by some blockage resulting in low water pressure. So he asks a lot of questions and starts looking through things. Turns out the only part I didn't remove, the top sprayer arm itself, was clogged up with hardened food debris causing the problem. This is where the problem starts. The technician either has another stop, or wants his day to end, because he tells me, "your dishwasher doesn't leak water." O.....K...... Do you really think I called you out here for a bullshit problem? I'm a dishwasher hypochondriac? So I pay the man $150 for like a half hour of work, no parts required at all. SO GUESS WHAT? I run some dishes through my dishwasher to confirm both items are fixed. Top arm sprays right now, but there's a puddle in the floor when it's done. Gee, what do you fucking know, it leaks water it would seem. So I call them back and politely inform them they did a half-ass job. The owner wants to bitch and moan at ME about how it's such a chore for them to finish doing the job I've already paid them for and to tell me he's going to charge me even more money. Then he acts like I broke my dishwasher trying to troubleshoot the problem myself and concealed the fact I had worked on it myself when I was 100% honest with the owner when I placed the initial call and with the technician while he was here. So I go ahead and make an appointment with the knowledge in the back of my mind that I'm not paying for another cent of labor because their technician was too fucking lazy to troubleshoot the problem while he was here the first time. I would've paid for parts required if they didn't try to gouge me on the price though. I'm pissed off about their sorry ass service, so the day in between appointments I take approximately 10 minutes to figure out where the leak is coming from myself (turns out, it only leaked while it was draining waste water), and go buy the part I needed and install it. I would never, ever call this appliance repair service because they are fuckups and they refuse to make things right. You don't get paid extra for fucking up on planet earth assholes. UPDATE: Brian, you're a liar, flat out. I didn't fuck up a thing disassembling it. You still have no idea what was actually wrong with my dishwasher, but you want to speculate and pretend like you know anyhow. YOUR technician only bothered to address ONE of the TWO reasons for the service call. It took me, a total amateur TEN MINUTES to figure out it didn't leak during the normal cycle, so maybe it leaks when it drains? Then you whined like a child about making it right, demanding more money for labor, because YOUR technician didn't spend another few minutes troubleshooting. NEWS FLASH!!! Doing people right means YOU eating the labor to come back because YOU fucked up, not me, and charge me for any additional parts required. Wanna get crazy? I've had other, much more ethical repair people eat both the labor AND parts when THEY DON'T DO THEIR JOB RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!! And one more thing, I forgot to even mention how your technician didn't show up when he was supposed to, and that I had to call YOU about it to find what was going on rather than the slacker calling ME to tell me what was going on. read more

They kept an old refrigerator alive until I could replace it. I have also had them work on my dryer, dishwasher and oven. I just had Brian come over and repair my washer which has been out of service for a week. I was going to buy a new set of washer and dryer from Sears. But $2283.59 for these monster machines which didn't appear to me to be more efficient or better than my old Kenmore. So I called around, including Sears. They wanted $75 for a diagnostic visit. They could not give me a rough idea of what a repair given my problem might be. Even as I gave them the serial # to their machine! I just needed to have information so I could make the decision whether to buy a new one or not? I am so glad I went out side of the Sears network. They accurately diagnosed the issue with my leaking washer for a fair price. However, I completed the repair myself after buying the part online. The job was done in less than 5 minutes and only required 5 easy steps. I appreciate their accurate diagnosis and I know it is a business, but the labor was really quite expensive for a 5 minute job. We had them come out to repair the door switch on a dryer. The switch that when you open the door the dryer stops running. He repaired the switch and was here for only 20 minutes. The charge was well over $200. Really way too high for that job. I made the mistake of Googling the repair afterward. On Youtube: Unscrew two screws holding the top, pop open the top and remove the two screws holding the switch. Close the top return the screws. I also Googled the switch price. Anywhere from $8 to $20. Their charge was $90 for the switch. Way too expensive for the job involved. Next time I'll check Yelp and google first. I wouldn't use them again and don't recommend them. read more

I was happy to get a hold of them on Friday night, and have Brian (owner) able to come in in less than an hour and fix the broken part in my fridge. It was a bit pricey, but I was notified over the phone what to expect, and I was just happy to have everything fixed so quickly. So I hired Brian from A1 Speedy to come Fix my refrigerator he gave me a quote for service call of $65 one he arrived he determined what the issues was and gave me a quote of $175 labor plus parts. After Brian replace the part he thought was bad the refrigerator was still not working he did some more trouble shooting and said that in 31 years of him working in this industry he had never seen anything like this before. He suggested I contact the manufacturer direct that they would be able to do additional Diagnostics testing that he could perform to see what exactly he issue. At the point he said he would only charge $120 in labor I was pretty blown away that he would charge me that much I felt like o had no choice but to pay. I could have understood the service call but not $120 where he didn't fix anything. So I would suggest stone use Brian to ask him what his labor will be if he is unable to fix the appliance so you know going into it just in Case that happens. I would say I was disappointed with what he decided to charge me without fixing anything. read more

On the Sunday afternoon before Labor Day we called Brian in hopes he could make an emergency call in Long Beach to repair an old and ailing refrigerator for an elderly woman whose medications require refrigeration. Also a large amount of refrigerated and frozen foods were at risk of spoiling. After the call, Brian arrived in about an hour and after several hours of work the refrigerator was running like new as it had for the past many years. He is prompt, professional, competent and thorough. He is very polite and courteous and I recommend his services to anyone who has an appliance that needs repair. Noticed that the frig stopped working yesterday (ice and icecream had melted). Called A1 at 8am this morning and Brian was at our door 2 hours later. Quickly diagnosed the problem (broken heater so frig wasn't auto-defrosting, which caused ice build up to the point where it wasn't working), had the replacement heater part in his truck ($130) and swapped it out after a manual defrost with a heat gun. I had an issue with my washer not draining. Called and they came the same day and tech was able to diagnose and fix the problem is minutes. Only issue is the same as other reviews(the pricing). You are in the hole $60 for them coming out, so you feel forced to pay the crazy labor prices. I paid $170 for something that took 10 minutes on a washing machine that is probably worth $200. I have an old dryer and when it stopped drying clothes entirely I dreaded the inevitable purchase of a new dryer. Talked to a friend who had theirs repaired a few months prior, luckily the serviceman left a sticker on his dryer and my friend passed along the info. Made the call in the morning and by afternoon he was there (star for that!) As a single gal with not much mechanical knowledge, I am ALWAYS leery of getting ripped of when in need of repairs of any sort. Not the case with A1, the serviceman (think his name is Bryan) took his time listening to the problem, then let me know how he was going to handle it. He gave me an estimate and it was very reasonable (star for that!) He went to work immediately and quickly identified the problem (bra under wires tangled in the dryer, who knew?!) After extracting the debris from the dryer & making sure it functioned properly, he even cleaned the floor where lint and such had collected. (self cleaning repair man? star for that!) He even called the next day to ensure the dryer was functioning properly. I have worked in customer service for over 15 years and was thoroughly impressed with A1 Speedy Appliance repair. I called A1 because my washing machine suddenly stopped agitating. I had used them many years ago, and they put stickers all over my machine with their number. I almost called someone else because I was so annoyed that they had put the stickers on without asking, but I had sick kids and was desperate. I was told that the service charge was $35, which would be credited towards any repair. When the owner arrived, he took the cover off the machine, turned it on, and then told me that he thought he knew what the problem was. He said it was electrical and that he charged $135 for a repair with no parts and for the education he provided to the customer. He said he would give me a return customer discount and charge me $20. I said "OK" indicating that I understood what I had been told so far, and waited for him to explain the problem and provide a written estimate. At no time did he ask whether I had approved the charges and if it was OK to begin work. Then, he turned one of the cycle dials. Apparently, the dial was between gentle and regular mode, and the fact that it was not engaged was causing the problem. I felt like a fool for not noticing (guess that's what happens when you're up all weekend with sick kids), but was flabbergasted when the owner charged me $120 for "labor and his expertise." He said that I had approved the charges because I said "OK." I admitted my embarrasment about calling him to fix a non-problem and argued with him about the charges. Because I was alone with him in the house and had no other way to get him to leave, I paid him. I do not dispute that I owe him $35 for the service charge, and would have paid him an additional reasonable fee ($25 or so), but the fact that he charged me for labor that he did not perform is unconscionable. read more

Had them come out for a dishwasher not draining. He charged me 200.00 for a 10 minute job! I complained about the excessive charge and he finally reduced it to 100.00 (still kinda high). I'm writing this now because he was out on 7/17 and the problem has returned on 10/3...now I have to call someone else to handle..very frustrating.
