My cat chillaxing with acupuncture.

Dr Ilena really cares about all her patients and has been wonderful with all my cats. They have all benefitted from her great treatment, really improving their comfort levels and mobility.

Tater Tot working that underwater treadmill for his luxating patella.

Co-worker: "You were out yesterday, are you ok?" Me: "Yes, I'm fine...I had to bring my dog for an acupuncture consultation." Co-worker: ( o_O ) Me: "What?" Co-worker: "Are you serious?" Me: "Uhh yea?" Co-worker: "Oh hunny, we must find you a man." Me: "Ok, but make sure he's a veterinarian!" Dogs can't talk so they can't tell us how they feel or when they're in pain. Several months ago, after launching off the bed, Tater Tot started limping and hiking up his leg. We went to see our regular vet and he said that Tater Tot had luxating patella and that if it didn't get any better, he would need surgery. (As a side note, Tater Tot has always had luxating patella but that one jump off the bed exasperated it and increased the severity of it.) NOPE. Surgery is out of the question because of the risks and it may not be 100% effective so I started researching alternative medicine. I read that acupuncture may be helpful so I started seeking out holistic veterinarians. Dr. IIana at A Well Adjusted Pet (inside The Rex Center) is one of two holistic veterinarians that I found on Yelp in SF Peninsula. I ultimately went with Dr. IIana because I had several friends whose dogs went to see Dr. IIana, and they spoke highly of her. Her only availability was 5 weeks out and it was a morning appointment on a weekday so holistic veterinary care for is a lot more popular than many people may think. Tater Tot's first appointment was a 90 minute consultation along with the treatment. Generally, medical professionals want to hit it and quit it. You wait and wait, only for them to spend 2 minutes with you and push you out the door. Not Dr. IIana. She is kind, compassionate AND incredibly thorough. She spent the time explaining Tater Tot's injury and how it's affecting him. She even went on all fours to explain how dog muscles and joints work. During the consult, Tater Tot was really nervous...probably thinking someone was going to stick something up his bunghole (again). Dr. IIana put Tater Tot at ease with lots of love and treats. After examining him, she suggested Shockwave Therapy (instead of acupuncture), Underwater Treadmill, and Adequan injections. Shockwave Therapy helps accelerated tissue repair and cell growth, and restore mobility. The Underwater Treadmill would help build strength and mobility. And, Adequan decreases inflammation and stimulates production of joint fluid and collagen. Dr. IIana also incorporated doggy pilates on the FITbone and physio balls for strength training. After 5 sessions, Tater Tot hasn't skipped, limped, or hiked his leg up! WHOO HOOO! He's doing great and is now in the maintenance phase. Instead of weekly treatments, we see Dr. IIana once a month and interchanges between Shockwave Therapy and Underwater Treadmill, and he does his FITBone exercises at home with the help of string cheese. It's not cheap (the 5 weekly treatments was close to $1,500) but totally worth it. Your furbaby's health is more important than a new LV bag right?! I think many people forget that animal care can be just as expensive as hooman care. Luckily, I have Healthy Paws Pet Insurance that covers holistic care so they reimbursed a good chunk of it. Dogs are family so you can't put a price on their well-being and quality of life. I highly recommend seeing Dr. IIana and her team (Dr. Laurie, Kimi, and Julie) for your dog's mobility issues, ligament injuries, rehabilitation, and spinal injuries! FIVE PAWS from Tater Tot because he always goes home with a belly full of treats.

Dr. llana Strubel is amazing!!!! Everyone that works there is so thoughtful, gentle, friendly, knowledgable and kind. Our dog got hit by a car in Sept of 2020. We went to another therapy clinic in Marin and they told us we would have to amputate it. Her nerve was torn. We ran into someone at the park with an orthotic leg and they recommended A Well Adjusted Pet. Fast forward Dr. Ilana tried everything to see what part of our dog's leg was salvageable. She walked me through everything she was doing and explained it perfectly. Our dog was able to get the brace and it has changed our lives. She can take long walks with us again without fear of hurting her paw. We have recommended A Well Adjusted Pet to several people. We are truly grateful for everyone working there, especially Dr. Ilana!

They do not answer their phone, and insist on only responding through email. And their address does not seem to exist, it is the address of a school.

Lil 12 year old Tucker Biscuit getting water treadmill therapy

I would recommend A Well Adjusted Pet to EVERYONE! I love my little Tucker Biscuit so much and was so upset when he injured himself after jumping off the couch. The staff at A Well Adjusted Pet have been absolutely amazing and so supportive of my little guy. Dr. Ilana is fantastic and has provided me with so much comfort knowing that my baby's getting the best care possible. Tucker did water treadmill therapy and electrostim therapy - their package deal was very affordable. 100% recommend them any time any day!!

She very patiently helped ease Charlie into the water, encouraged him to get comfortable without pushing him. By the end of the session he was already starting to swim on his own. Really happy with this first lesson and I highly recommend the Rex Center to anyone who's looking to introduce their dog to the water.

Cant…read morepraise them enough :) In our sweet Maddox's situation (14 y/o Golden Retriever), we came to the Rex Center in hopes to help alleviate his severe/chronic arthritis, after his arthritis meds stopped working after 2 years. I shared more on his condition and our solutions below, but ultimately this experience at the Rex Center (IMO) helped extend Maddox's life by 7+ months. Big thank you to Ellen and Robin for your empathetic support, and just overall knowledge and skills, while helping to make Maddox's chronic arthritis livable again. ~~ More context to Maddox's arthritis condition for anyone that may be facing similar challenges -- hope it helps! . Maddox's arthritis meds (Adaquan/carprofen/gabapentin), which had worked great for ~2 years, mostly stopped working in early June 2023. By late June 2023, and about 3 weeks since the meds stopped working, it was to the point that Maddox couldn't get up effectively, or walk on his own; nor could he hold himself up while going to the bathroom. To me at this time, it seemed like something was sprained, whether that was in his paw or around, etc, as he was also regularly knuckling / curling his paw during these 3 weeks. First we got him a X-Ray, it came back as nothing being sprained or broke. Then a MRI with an orthopedic (Marin County), and that all but confirmed Maddox's debilitating arthritis as the singular cause. The orthopedic was even surprised it was only arthritis and nothing more. So after the MRI, he was prescribed prednisone (early July 2023) by the orthopedic. It worked! **This is also when I set up his first swim session with Ellen and the Rex Center ...and this worked too! Mainly, the Rex Center + prednisone was the only solution that provided results. Where once a week, over a few months, Maddox had a swim session at the Rex center. Progressively stabilizing into what came to be a situation where he was playful again, getting up and going to the bathroom on his own strength, and overall about as good as it could be given the circumstances. I can't thank Ellen and Robin enough. On the video and images I shared, those are from the very first session. Maddox got right in, swam great, and overall was relaxed (like a spa day!). Of note, Maddox in his entire 14 year existence NEVER swam too, for whatever reason he hated the water. With Ellen and Robin though, you never would have known. Thanks to the team here again, and I only wish we had Maddox in the water during those 2 years when his arthritis meds worked great. **My recommendation is if your dog has any level of arthritis, the earlier the better, get the pups in that warm water at the Rex Center.

After several challenging experiences at a traditional veterinary office, we reached out to his team for help, and we're so glad we did. They were kind, punctual, professional, and exceptionally skilled. Thanks to their thoughtful approach, we were able to complete all of our dog's vaccinations with minimal stress in a convenient setting outside the home, which helped avoid territorial issues. They guided us in choosing medications to keep him calm and followed up afterward to make sure he was doing well. We were very impressed by how confidently and compassionately they handled him. They also took the time to walk us through the risks and benefits of different options, helping us make informed, personalized decisions tailored to our dog's needs.
