My cat, Cheerio is very sensitive. He's left other vet clinics (Lenity) with more mental trauma that negatively impacted him than his initial physical pain that led him to the vet in the first place. But he's recovered so well after every visit from Dr. Treat! That's truly a testament to the care, sensitivity, and expertise of the team here. Cheerio recently went through a checkup, exams, vaccines, and dental cleaning with Dr. Lee, which was quite involved with multiple shots, screenings, and anesthesia. But the team made sure that the procedures were calm, peaceful and allowed me to comfort him through the initial stages. I'm really thankful for that, and Cheerio recovered extremely fast in a day back to himself! AVOID AVOID AVOID. If I could go back and listen to the little voice telling me something was off, I would have left this clinic in late 2025. I was a founding member of Dr. Treat San Francisco from August 2022 - May 2026 and referred many neighborhood dog owners to this practice over the years. Following billing errors after my dog's March 2026 dental cleaning, I conducted a comprehensive audit of invoices, visit summaries, lab results and the complete clinical record. What I found was deeply concerning and the issues I uncovered extended well beyond billing. Clinical concerns identified: - Anesthesia monitoring failures during a dental procedure under general anesthesia, including multiple alarms with no recorded intervention - A sedation procedure with no monitoring records - Laboratory tests billed but specimens never submitted to the laboratory - Vaccination records inconsistent with clinical documentation resulting in missed doses and unnecessary revaccination - A clinical encounter producing a prescription for an antibiotic-resistant infection with no follow-up plan or corresponding chart entry Billing concerns: - $1,178.80 in billing errors corrected only after my independent audit -- none identified proactively by the practice - Additional $1,389.18 in billing errors with a denied refund requested despite documentation sourced from the practice's own records I filed formal complaints with the California Veterinary Medical Board in June 2026 (Complaint 4602026002298 and 4602026002309). Additionally, Dr. Treat is no longer an independent practice. It is operated by SVP California LP within the Mission Pet Health/Southern Veterinary Partners network. This ownership change was not disclosed to members who auto-renewed annual memberships after February 2025. Early Thursday morning around 2:30 A.M. I booked an urgent appointment at Dr. Treat in Burlingame for my 5-year-old Frenchie, who was vomiting repeatedly throughout the night. I made the appointment in pure panic because I was afraid something was seriously wrong. This review is mainly regarding the front desk staff and the customer service aspect, not the medical providers themselves. By morning, after monitoring her, she was eating, sleeping, and playing normally. I called the clinic to ask whether I should still bring her in or if I could cancel. I apologized immediately because I knew I was within the 24-hour cancellation window even though I made the appointment in the middle of the night and there was no way I could notify 24 hours before. The person who answered the phone was extremely condescending from the beginning. Instead of helping me decide what to do medically, I was repeatedly talked over and reminded of their policy. I completely understand policies -- I work in healthcare myself -- but there is a way to communicate them compassionately, especially in veterinary care where people are often scared and unsure. At one point she told me, word for word, to "be more mindful when scheduling appointments." After staying up all night cleaning vomit and watching my dog gag, that comment felt really insensitive and unnecessary. I wasn't rude, didn't raise my voice, and didn't swear -- I was simply asking if I should bring her in because she seemed fine by morning. She then told me she would "waive the fee this one time, but again, be mindful," spoke over me again, and then abruptly hung up. My issue isn't the policy (every clinic has them). The issue is how the staff communicates with pet owners during already stressful situations. Compassion and customer service matter. For contrast, I also called Sage in Redwood City and they simply advised me to monitor and come in if symptoms returned -- no attitude, no lecture, just clear guidance. I've been to Dr. Treat several times and their facility is beautiful, clean and the treats are endless for our babies, and the medical team has always been great. I really hope management addresses how these interactions are handled, because no one in the middle of a pet emergency should feel talked down to or dismissed by the front desk. The Burlingame staff were great! So much work and care has gone into making sure the branding matches the experience, very top notch! As some have pointed out - the office has a very cool tech vibe to it. Prior to this I had visited Banfield in Daly City -- lets just say ...ugh, the place was a mess and it felt like the McDonalds of Vet locations. I really started to think all vets were like this - bare minimum. DrTreats is nothing like that! Star, Dr Hong and Jess were all super amazing to Pumba. I will say one thing tho - I went in for a Rabies shot and came out paying for more things that I had planned for...So not really sure how I feel about it. I do appreciate the preventive measures tho. So if you book something and if its your first visit, be prepared to dish out some extra coin for additional medical stuff - including additional vaccines and other items. Beyond that - really really love the place and I was able to score some cool DrTreat swag - when your branding is that solid, swag you must have! This review is long overdue and is from our last visit in May of 2025. I was holding off on this review to give it a fair go. We'd been going to this vet for over a year now and I don't feel any better about it after oit last visit than I did after any of the other visits. When I first brought our dog to Dr. Treat over a year ago, the office gave a very retail like vibe. They took us back to the exam room and performed the standard exam. Then we addressed the secondary reason we were there which was for her ear. She did indeed have a yeasty ear, but they tried convince me that she needed all 19 (not really 19, but an excessive amount for a dog that doesn't live in the jungle) of the vaccinations that they were trying to give her, a full blood work up, that she was a couple of inches from being over weight and that she needed to get quarterly steroid shots. Pros 1. Ability to make an appointment easily online 2. Assorted dog treats at the front desk 3. A mini fridge up front stocked with boxed water and sparkling water 4. An annual membership that waives your visit fee ( not to be confused with fees for service) regardless of how many visits you make in the year Cons 1. They try to upsale you to no end 2. They try to convince you that your pet could have or could devleop the worst of whatever issue you brought them there for 3. While the office visit fee is waived, they line item charge you up the yazoo 4. They take your dog to the back for vaccinations without you being present (I'm accustomed to all vaccinations/exams taking place in the same exam room you and your pet are sitting in; at least that was how our previous vet operated with our previous dog. 5. They talk you like you have no knowledge of your dog's health or how vet visits are supposed to go. Fast forward to our last visit, I took our dog in to have her ears looked at because she was displaying familiar symptoms of last year's yeasty ears. Wait, let me rewind to last month when I took her in for her rabies and one other vaccination, at which time they tried to sell me every other vaccine ever created for canines. Okay, so coming back to the last visit in May... Our dog's regular Dr. at that office had apparently moved to another office so our dog was seen by one of the other Dr.'s in the office. Let's just say I should have known there was a reason why this particular Dr. had so many appointments available. She talked to me like we hadn't been there before. I'm not sure she even looked at our dog's chart before coming into the exam room, if she had she would have recognized that we'd been there before for the exact same issue. She looked in our dog's ears and tried to convince me that our dog had a foxtail in her ear. I immediately dispelled that but she continued to insist that there was a foxtail in there. She insinuated that our dog may have picked it up outside somewhere, despite the fact that I told her our dog stays in the house unless she's being taken for a walk and not in grass or in the park. She went on to say maybe she picked it up in the yard (we don't have grass ), at a dog park (she doesn't go to the dog park), or swimming (we've never taken our dog swimming). So she continued trying to dig into our dog's ear to find a foxtail that didn't exist until she made our dog yelp and lost the tip of the ear scope onto the floor. At that point I should have walked out because the energy was way off. She then said she needed to take our dog to the back to get a better look in her ear only to come back with a metal rod with hair and earwax on it. But I had already told her it was hair [not a foxtail] to start with, but she wasn't interested in what I had to say. She didn't want prescribe our dog the medicine they'd prescribed her last year for this same issue without again performing the same $128 diagnostic the performed last year. I said no and after some clear dissatisfaction was able to get the prescription for our dog. But this was only after she tried to sell me $742 worth of services, same price tag as last year. When I take my dog to the vet I shouldn't feel like I'm at a car dealership. I should instead feel like the doctor is looking out for our pet's best interest. Bottom line, we won't ever be returning to Dr. Treat and I advise anyone looking to take their pet there to consider other options. For reference, our visits were always to the Burlingame location. I didn't enjoy the year we spent at Dr Treat. Getting records from them was tedious. I don't like not getting a printout or summary of the visit. The app does not give you the information that you need. It only shows your pet's vital signs. This isn't information that's needed when going to doggy daycare, etc. When I got all of the records on all of my pets when o had decided to change vets, the summaries I read had information that had not been reviewed with me. For example, on one of my dogs that said his tartar had returned really rapidly, and nobody mentioned that in any of the visits. They just said his gums looked great. If you got a printed summary and lab reports after each visit, you would be more educated about the actual condition of your pet. I found this place to be frustrating. Not worth the price. Poor communication. On two occasions I booked an 8 AM appointment only to wait outside in the lobby for 10 minutes or so. Then the front desk staff said that she was trying to eat her breakfast. EDIT: OMG I just read Lesley's review below and I can't even... the poor woman. She experienced the exact same thing as me just with much more devastating results. There's clearly a trend of improperly reporting results. Lesley's experience is horrific and now I don't feel like pulling any punches. This place is a criminally negligent scam. Do not go here. ORIGINAL REVIEW: There's no such thing as a free lunch, so when I heard that exams don't cost anything additional once you've paid the membership, I was suspicious, but the first place I called wasn't accepting new patients and I was in a hurry. It's fairly obvious that the business model is to get you through the door and then prescribe as much testing and as many supplements as possible and inflate the prices compared to other clinics. A myriad of tests were prescribed with a total cost of over $1500. Blood and fecal testing was more than twice as expensive as the previous clinic I went to. I asked for a printed copy of the estimate to see the details of what is covered in each test panel, but the best they could do is have me look over the vet's shoulder at her laptop. That's not sufficient transparency to make an informed decision. I whittled down the tests to the most necessary and went forward because I was already there and going elsewhere would take time and incur additional cost of a 2nd exam. I ran the gauntlet of exiting without overhyped add-ons, made it home, and two days letter I get a message that my dog's results are all normal, he's in the clear, everything looks good. At first I was extremely relieved, but then I realized I didn't receive the actual lab results of the testing. I asked for them and to their credit I expected this to be problematic but they sent them quickly and without giving me a hard time. And I'm VERY glad I did because they confirm an issue that I've been concerned about, where he is on the extreme end of normal results and when combined with observed trends intervention of treatment is recommended. It's something I should have been told about and it's clearly written in the lab results, all they had to do is report the results accurately but they couldn't bother to do that. Underneath the chi-chi façade is an overtly obvious business model of ordering a high volume of testing, obfuscating the details, and inflating the prices. Fine, that falls within what is allowed in our economic system, and everyone is aware of caveat emptor, but then they don't even do the thing that was overpaid for correctly. I feel embarrassed I even went here. It's perfect for techbro Will below with his breeder-bought designer dog, but I don't need fancy logos and swag, I need good care for my pets. With so much effort put into the look of the place, somebody is going to pay for it, and it's not going to be the investors, it's going to be YOU, through higher prices or cutting corners elsewhere, like properly reviewing and reporting the lab results. That's why other clinics don't have a bunch of unnecessary branding to you make you feel fancy and special, Will, and dude, I haven't eaten at McDonald's in well over a decade, but Big Macs are delicious, Chicken McNuggets are delicious, and at least at McDonald's you actually get what you ordered. To expand upon Will's analogy, this place is a fancy-looking haute cuisine bistro where the waiter pressures you to order everything on the menu, the chef doesn't even bother to read it, the hostess acts like you're riffraff if you dare to decline the prix fixe, the food is twice as expensive as McDonald's but still tastes the same, and all the profit is in the beverage sales. read more

5 stars for Dr. Treat! My cat Teddy and I have been going to Dr. Treat for the past couple months, and we're both very happy with the care. For context, very soon after I got Teddy, he unfortunately got a stubborn upper respiratory infection. It was very stressful, especially as a new cat owner, but the Dr. Treat staff was there through the entire process. I also really appreciate the genuine care and love the staff have for Teddy. Teddy loves to see Dr. Hong every time we visit, and Star is always attentive. It's very comforting to know that I can trust my fur baby with the staff at any moment. Their yearly membership program also makes it worry-free to schedule appointments at any time. We also received a free welcome gift basket, and Teddy loved the toy that came with it (before he lost it lol) The facilities are also brand new and very calming. See the below photos of Teddy during his first visit - completely knocked out with a nap! They had Feliway plugged in which was a nice touch. I also love the free cat/dog treats they have on hand. FYI Dr. Treat in Burlingame has not had a vet on staff since Dr. Hong left 'for unexpected personal reasons' August 18th. Fact. Clients were notified of his leaving in an email, while we were assured that several other vets on staff would continue to be there for our pets during continuing business hours. That is not true, is dangerously misleading, and my sweet cat is now dead. Since Dr. Hong 'left' there have been zero vets on staff, instead they have been calling in various temp vets, and only if the clinic is open for someone who has made an appointment. I got that info directly from a staff member on Monday, September 9th when I happened to find them open, just for those appointments. I will not reveal that individual's name here to protect her for now. Other than the email notifying clients of Dr. Hong leaving and assuring us AKA no disclosure about zero other vets on staff as claimed for our pets needs, radio silence/no contact. There have been no further emails to clients, other than to suggest/solicit services. I was pleased to first find the Dr. Treat clinic in downtown Burlingame as I no longer drive and could walk to the clinic with my cat Minke. I took advantage of their offer for an up front payment and no additional charge for office visits, making my first appointment for Minke on June 28th. As Minke is/was 17, I agreed to senior testing of urine and blood, and was pleased to receive a call from Dr. Hong at 8AM the following morning. He talked about dental care, but advised against a procedure (under anesthesia) at her age, and shared that, as expected for her age, she has early kidney disease, expressing surprise at how low numbers were. That was that, and I felt relieved and grateful. He seemed so honest and earnest that I did not realize he/the clinic had not shared the results with me in print/via email. And that brings me to the horrible end of this review. One week short of 2 months later, on Tuesday, August 20th, Minke went into distress with short rapid breathing, gasping and frightened. I immediately called the clinic, getting a recording telling me to press some number if this was an emergency, and that only let me leave a message. I put her in her carrier and ran (I'm 73) over there only to find the door locked and a note taped to it saying "Closed due to short staffing". What?? I ran home and was able to locate a family member to drive us to Omega Emergency Hospital, while critical time was lost. They administered oxygen, ran tests, and X-rays and the results were absolutely shocking. The vet asked to see the test results from Dr. Treat, and that's when I realized they had never been shared with me. We had to make the crushing and humane decision to put Minke out of her suffering. As I mentioned, I went back to Dr. Treat clinic September 9th, learning what I shared above, and I got the results of Minke's appt and tests from June 28th...7 pages with lots of red flags, the worst on the 7th page addressing critical pancreatitis. I'm sorry to share this, it's crushing. Minke had blood clots in her lungs, a mass in her belly, and organ failure, all results of non disclosure by Dr. Hong/Dr. Treat clinic, She suffered horribly, was terrified (a calm and friendly cat fighting fiercely to survive) and we had no choice at that point but to end her life humanely. The challenge of processing my grief with the loss of my very dear companion of 17 years is hard enough, but realizing with the knowledge that the one vet on staff at the time and the Dr. Treat clinic caused my Minke to suffer and die such a horrible death due to their negligence has made that impossible. I am broken. In conclusion, I was told on Monday, September 9th by the associate, who shared the information with me about no actual vet on staff, just temps, and the clinic closed unless opened for an appt that was called in, that manager Melissa would be contacting me, but nothing from her, now the evening of Thursday, September 12th. This is probably the cleanest vet office we've ever been to, but every visit feels like I'm being sold a used car or a timeshare. There's constant upselling, and I usually feel pressured into paying for tests, blood work, or cleanings I didn't come in for. It's hard to tell whether the care is genuine or just revenue-driven. Beyond the clean, bougie vibe, it feels like every other vet clinic... more focused on dollars than affordable, honest care for your pet. You pay a "membership fee", but it sucks because you can't claim the membership fee with your pet insurance company. Also, they've mixed up my pets before (cat and dog) so I don't think they have their backend office well organized. Would I recommend it? I guess so... just hold your ground or else you'll be paying a month's rent when you walk out. read more

I love the concept of concierge for dogs. I also like the cleanliness of the office/ clinic, love how warm and adapt your front Office staff and vet assistants to different breeds of dogs; however, I didn't see that from the vet who attended to us. There's no warmth or connection that I saw. My daughter who took her dog a week prior was so impressed and all praises with the whole experience. So I'd like to give it another try, and perhaps request for another vet when we come back. read more
