The TL;DR version: SMP is simply AMAZING! I never imagined my long-distance move could be this…read morequick, smooth, and stress-free!! The detailed version: I was super stressed out about the move before booking: I had a lot on my plate, and reading about scary moving experiences online didn't help at all. So I did my homework carefully: (a) Check Yelp: get a shortlist of movers with good reviews (I read the negative reviews on purpose and see whether what was mentioned was really a problem with the movers, or just things beyond anyone's control, or sheer ranting...). (b) Check each and every candidate mover in the FMCSA database (https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/protect-your-move/select-mover): see if they are legit and have zero customer complaints (NOT all of those on my shortlist was authorized to do the job - scary!) (c) Getting a quote: I submitted quote requests for three finalists. One of them took almost a week to get back to me. The other asked so many questions online that I almost gave up filling out the form. SMP's online form was very brief - that's just another benefit of flat-rate prices. For my move from Philly to Chapel Hill, SMP also has the best listing price (the flat-rate one listed on their website), AND the peace of mind knowing there's not going to be any hidden fees is invaluable, too! So that's how I decided to try to work with SMP. (***I "try" because I am well aware of the fact that (a) this is peak moving season and (b) my intended move date was only TWO WEEKS away!) I communicated with Nate via email throughout the entire process - the responses were always nice and clear, and definitely as prompt as one could expect from an owner of a busy moving company at this time of the year (and often really swift by any other standards)! Then comes the loading day! We scheduled for 12:30 pm, and Nate and his crew showed up 20 minutes early with a magnificent truck. The guys were super professional, and I was left with an empty studio within 25 minutes!!! (Tip: having everything packed up and ready to go beforehand really helps. Yes, packing is painful and chaotic, but that gives one all the more reason NOT to do that with people waiting...) The original plan was to load on the afternoon of Day 1, the unload on the morning of Day 3. But Nate told me after loading whether they might be able to unload early on Day 2 because the preceding moving project seems nice and small. Of course I happily accepted - and they did arrive at 7pm on Day 2!! This time it's just Nate and Tony, but they still had the job done in UNDER AN HOUR!!! (And they accept Venmo as a form of payment - so convenient!) I'm 90% done with unpacking and everything (including my guitar, my two giant and heavy boxes of electronics, and that cheap little shoe shelf that I carelessly half-wrapped in a padded plastic bag) is in perfect condition! Nate and Tony were also extra careful when placing boxes on the floor at my brand new apartment. If someone told me I could be this happy and thrilled after a long-distance move on a hot and humid summer day, I would never believed him/her. But Nate and his team at SMP truly lived up to their name and offered a SMOOTH and PROFESSIONAL moving experience! I would highly recommend them to everyone I know!

They sure aren't smooth at scheduling. I reached out to them with full pick-up drop-off locations…read moreand full inventory list on May 13. They quoted me the next day. I then asked how to move forward - no answer for three days. On the third day I asked again if someone could please reach out and tell me the next steps and the reply, the next day was that they wanted to know my destination and inventory (ummmm you were given that originally). I again gave the destination pickup/drop off and full inventory list. That was three days ago, no response. Honestly, how can you be a reputable company when you don't respond to client requests? If the job was something they didn't/couldn't do, the least they could do is tell you instead of ignoring you. If this is how they respond in the beginning then how are they going to be with managing your move? Danger, danger Will Robinson.

I am so glad that we used College Hunks for our recent move! We had to move our 85 year old mom…read morefrom her house to an assisted living apartment an hour away. This kind of situation is already very emotional and stressful, so we needed a moving company that was going to make this transition easier, not harder. We definitely picked the right company - they were super easy to work with and set up the move, and the price came in a good bit lower than other companies. Chrissy, the GM, was fantastic - always a phone call away and extremely helpful. And our two movers, Jr. and Keem, were very fast but also very careful with my mom's furniture, some of it was delicate. They also were very friendly and helped make moving day SO easy. Thank you all for a job well done! Mary K.

I hired this company to move my one-bedroom apartment less than a mile away and was charged…read moreapproximately $1,100. Unfortunately, the move was not completed. Multiple items were left behind, including clothing, bags, a laundry hamper, a lamp, a shoe rack, and other belongings, requiring me to spend the following day finishing the move myself. The movers also arrived unprepared and asked to borrow my personal tools to disassemble and reassemble furniture. During the move, my wood table was damaged and now has a significant crack. After the move, I contacted the company to try to resolve the issue. Communication took weeks, and after multiple follow-ups, my request for a refund was denied. The owner seemed more interested in arguing with me than addressing the incomplete move and damaged property. I expected a completed move, professional preparation, and reasonable customer service. Based on my experience, I would NEVER use this company again.

The pricing was reasonable and they're very clear about how their pricing structure works. At no time did I feel they were shorting themselves or gauging us. While the job was not a large one the crew treated it like it was just as important to them as the biggest job of the week. They were very friendly and professional. They worked quickly and very well together. What would have taken us and entire day to accomplish to these gentlemen just a couple of hours. Eli was accessible if I had any questions throughout. Overall great experience. I have another job I need done towards the end of the month and I'll be calling them tomorrow to schedule the same crew to come down.

This company was a bit dramatic in how they approached my specialized move where four previous…read moremovers were supposed to bring a 26 ft. truck and three guys. All showed up in smaller 16 ft trucks and some showed up with only 2 guys. Between these four moving companies they placed my belongings back and forth in an unsecured garage that had previous field mice activity (droppings present). Between the previous movers, they moved my belongings, including a new bed and mattress still in plastic, into the garage and back into my house multiple times between all of these movers. I have a bad back and there's nothing I could do about it. It was a legitimate mess created by four previous movers. These guys were coming in to save the day. However, this company was unable to complete the move too. I requested a 26 ft. truck and three guys. Three of the nicest guys showed up but with a small truck, again. They said they were going to get gloves due to visible droppings and showed back up at my house over an hour later in hazmat suits due. I said let's just junk everything. They were supposed to give me a quote for junking the entire garage but that never happened. Due to the drama and not completing my move and/or junking request, I don't recommend. Thanks.
