Excellent restaurant in Nazare. We found it through Yelp but also discovered it was in Rick Steve's guidebook which we follow religiously. My wife and I shared a salad, grilled white grouper and seafood rice and all were excellent. The white grouper was especially delicious. The restaurant was surprisingly busy this Wednesday night in early October. My wife and I would have been disappointed had we not made a reservation earlier in the day. We saw couple after couple being turned away just 15 minutes after their 715pm opening time. The restaurant has beautiful tiles on the walls and is very nice with about 20 tables in all. This particular evening they may have been short staffed as I only saw three people working the dining room. It was not too long a wait after being seated that we got a menu to share. Their menu has many seafood and meat offerings with little or no description beyond the short title of the dish. We ordered their cataplana or seafood stew stuffed with shrimps, clams, mussels, monkfish and sea bass. Along with the stew were two heapings of rice as a base to pour it all over. The stew was quite tasty and of s generous portion that we didn't quite finish. Along with the stew, we enjoyed a half bottle of red wine and bread. I saw another table order the squid and shrimp kebab that comes out hanging from a small hook. It got lots of oohs and aahs and is something I would try on a return visit. Service was sporadic but friendly with no complaints. I don't know how they do this every evening though with only three people. My one gripe was an individual going table to table trying to sell wood carvings. We brushed him away but I could see others were bothered by him. read more

This was the best meal that we have had thus far in our week in Portugal. We were having coffee across the street during the late morning and noticed a line forming. My wife and I stopped by for lunch back in December, after reading reviews online. It was a bit hard to find and for some reason, I still keep referring to this place as A Pisquinha...in any case, I had quite possibly the best seafood dish I have ever had at this place. I ordered their Arroz de Marisco, teeming with crab, mussels, clams, and shrimp...a huge portion good enough for two people. Man, was that some yummy dish! It took a while to prepare my dish, but it was so worth it. I just don't know how this dish could've been better. My wife tried their grilled fish (believe it was their dourada) which she also raved about. Everything was fresh, and you can taste it. One word of caution (good thing our guide told us) - I guess it is common practice at restaurants (at least here in Nazare anyway) for the servers to bring items to your table prior to the main course without being asked...like bread and butter, cooked shrimp and sliced cheese...well, they are not complimentary and you'll have to pay for those items later on. If you don't want them, just wave it off (even if they look put off). read more

This place is super popular. We were fortunate to have made reservations in advance because people who wanted to eat there were told that they were completely booked. We went for the first seating at 7pm but didn't actually get seated until 7:30. The owner did apologize for the wait but we didn't really mind. We ordered grilled mackerel and the half order of seafood rice. The lady that served us was very warm and friendly and came to check on us frequently. We didn't tell her that we were planning on sharing both dishes so when she realized she advised us to eat the fish first. After we were done the fish the seafood rice had absorbed a lot of the soup so she brought it back to the kitchen for them to give us more broth. I thought that was a really nice touch. The grilled mackerel was ok. It had a lot of small bones so was a little difficult to eat. The seafood rice was really good. It has shrimp, clams and crab. Very tasty. The portions are really generous. The one person size could feed two people. I really enjoyed eating here. The service was very attentive and friendly. It's definitely not a place to go for a quick dinner as they serve you at a leisurely pace. Very enjoyable! read more

This unassuming family restaurant turned out to be my favorite food experience in Portugal! The atmosphere is casual but full of charm, and the service was genuinely friendly and helpful. We were there for lunch and our server (the owner's son) recommended we share a single portion cataplana between 2 people, plus a starter, rather than order the double portion that was listed on the menu. I really appreciated that suggestion as it was a generous amount of food and any more would have gone to waste. The seafood was abundant, fresh, and delicious, and they also served half bottles of wine that were perfect for 2. We arrived late and were the last ones to finish eating as they prepared to close for a few hours before dinner, but we were welcomed warmly and never felt rushed at all. We found this lovely restaurant on Rick Steves recommendation and were more than pleased with the delicious food and wonderful service. We had the most amazing experience as we pulled up to the restaurant and couldn't find parking and the owners son Carlos II was standing outside and helped us find parking up the street. I highly recommend the fried shrimp appetizer which comes with a delicious salad in the center if the plate. The pork and clams alentejano was Amazing as was the cataplana fish stew. My boyfriend and I were given a recommendation by our hotel to go here for dinner. We arrived around 10pm and the place was packed! All tables were full and there were people waiting outside. Carlos Miguel, the son of the owner Carlos, was so kind. He reassured us that if we waited he would have us seated soon enough. We came back around 10:30 and still, no seats. He brought us both a nice sweet wine to enjoy outside while we waited. I was instantly excited about the experience. We were seated not too long after and wow, we had no idea what we were in store for. I ordered the calamari skewer which included calamari, shrimp, chorizo and bacon with some onion and pepper as well. The calamari was to die for, so juicy and tender, and the rest .. Yum! My boyfriend ordered a pork dish with clams. It was served in a big pot that included potatoes and the most delicious seasoning. All the food was amazing. Finally we have found the best traditional Portuguese! Now, the service, I cannot say enough! The father and son duo of Carlos and Carlos Miguel is one that you can not beat! These two are the best hosts I have experienced in a long time. They make you feel at home and so loved. Dining here was ana maxing experience which I will never soon forget. Great little restaurant with great customer service. Owner and the family are doing good. You need reservation to go there. Fish and other seafood items are delivered fresh daily. We had tuna spaghetti and it tasted wonderful. Since I'm vegetarian, I was settled with veg soup, but owner said he will make something with mixed vegetables for me. Mixed veg were basic but still tasty and simple. If you are in are and love seafood, definitely give it a try. read more

Wow. I have to say that the moment we stepped in the restaurant we were greeted and treated as family. Everyone was friendly, the food was incredible (get he skewered shrimp and squid, it won't disappoint), and the wine and port were perfect. Really loved this place. In fact as we were leaving the host pulled us back in and was genuinely interested in chatting more over a glass of port... so wonderful to be treated that way! read more

This restaurant is probably my favourite in the world. The owner and his son are friends of my family (who are locals) and they are lovely people. The staff are incredibly kind and the food is delicious. The chocolate mousse is to die for. It can be busy, but it is so worth the wait. I just returned from a superbly prepared sea bass dinner. This restaurant is family run and you feel the family vibe as soon as you enter. The host is genuine and the wait staff good humored and professional. You may need to wait, it is a very popular place with locals and tourists, but we were immediately offered complimentary glass of excellent port to smooth the delay. Large portions, very reasonable prices. I honestly can't speak too highly of our experience. Best meal during my two weeks in Portugal. Will return tomorrow! read more
