Bacalhau na Vila -- A temple to Portugal's most iconic ingredient…read more Portugal has a deep culinary relationship with Bacalhau, and Bacalhau na Vila leans into that heritage completely. This isn't simply a restaurant that happens to serve cod; the entire concept is built around it. The menu explores bacalhau through multiple traditional preparations, each highlighting a different texture and flavour profile. We started with cream of spinach soup with cod, a surprisingly elegant opener. The soup was smooth and comforting, with the cod adding a savoury depth that balanced the creaminess without overpowering it. The appetizers showcased two beloved Portuguese classics. The codfish cakes (pastéis/bolinhos de bacalhau) were perfectly executed--light, crisp, and fluffy with well-balanced seasoning. The pataniscas, a looser cod fritter, had a rustic charm with a golden exterior and tender interior. For the main course we ordered roasted cod, which was excellent. The fish was flaky and deeply flavourful, demonstrating why bacalhau has been such an enduring staple in Portuguese cuisine. What makes the restaurant memorable is how intentionally it celebrates this ingredient. Cod has historically played a major role in Portugal's food culture, and Bacalhau na Vila turns that history into a cohesive dining experience. Service was friendly, attentive, and professional, with staff who clearly know the menu and take pride in the concept. If you're visiting Sintra and want to experience one of Portugal's most iconic ingredients prepared in several traditional styles, Bacalhau na Vila is a great place to do it.

The food, services were great. Definitely recommend if you are in Sintra after visiting the castles.read more

Amazing place, food and service. You MUST schedule in advance. I went here back in 2019 on my way…read morehome from my Europe trip and can't stop thinking about the food and wine since! They were so nice and everything was so perfect. I was a solo dinner who was befriended by a couple having dinner and we just chatted ate and drank the night away! I literally want to plan a trip back to Lisbon JUST for this place! It's is a very small establishment with lime seating, hence needing reservations in advance. It's dimly lit and so cozy. I can still taste the beef in the mustard sauce all these years later!

Cantinho Lusitano was amazing!!! It was one of the highlights of our time in Portugal…read more I originally heard of it through a friend's friend's Instagram and checked the website. I saw a previous review suggesting to make a reservation and I completely agree. You MUST make reservations to ensure a table. I emailed them 1-2 weeks before for a party of 8 and there are only about maybe 18-20 seats inside. You feel a sort of exclusivity when people without reservations show up at the front door (which you can't actually open from the outside) and are politely notified that they need to make a reservation. // Food They were out of a few items but we mostly got at least one of everything. Our group hasn't had Portuguese food before so nothing to compare there but overall tasted great and we tried vinho verde for the first time! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. // Ambiance Felt like you're eating inside someone's home kitchen. Quiet inside and homey // Price Stuffed with food and plenty of wine came out to about $23 a person, such a great deal! // Service Great! The server was very friendly and helpful. Our group is from America so you do have to get used to there only being 1 server for everyone compared to in the States

A chef and his parents serving and at the bar. A limited menu but with enough choice. A good selection of wines and after dinner drinks He spoke excellent English and was incredibly friendly and helpful with our choices Visit 1: only a handful of people in. We decided to get 4-5 tapas between us - he came out of the kitchen and said that it was too much (when did that ever happen?) and suggested some changes and to cut a dish...ok we said, it all came...and it was still a lot!!! We tried a few different glasses of wine with the meal; after, we tried a couple of ports with his help. All in €56 - incredible value It was like being in your own house with your own chef...bizarre but really nice Visit 2: we didn't mean to go there but eat nearby...the place we chose originally was full; the place opposite tried to entice us in but there was another 30+ minute wait...we thought, let's just go round the corner We got a great welcome and it was quite crowded. Just ordered a couple of his serious hamburgers and a couple of glasses of wine...€33. Again, so well looked after Recommended ps: the first visit, I had inadvertently manage to tear a €5 note in two and drop half under the table...on returning, the mother rushed off and gave me the missing half back...that was nice pps: we talked with the chef about chicken piri piri - he said for the best in town, go to this street, not really restaurants just take aways and eat in the street, unfortunately we did not have the time...if anyone does go, please let me know...I think this is what he said, but I could be wrong...you would have to ask someone Pudim abade de Priscos Avalade, av da Igresa
