They have opened a ticket, and they don't do anything about it and are just closing the ticket repeatedly without solving the issue. I've had a personal site/blog hosted with ASO since 2005. Yes, 2005. Yes, 14 years ago. ASO used to be amazing. They were the premier hosting provider back then. They had instant support, super knowledgeable people, and were greatly respected by the tech community. Then, they got bought out and as a result, all customer support was outsourced to India. Stay away! I loved ASO when I first started using them a few years back...around 2013 or so. In the past couple years my site started to have tons of issues. It would be down and I would have no idea unless someone told me or I went to my website myself (which is rare...why would I go to my own site every day?). It would take so long to load. I'd reach out to their online support and it would take over a day for issues to be resolved. They don't offer phone support which is laughable. That definitely means your support is outsourced if you're straight up refusing to speak to customers on the phone. Are you telling me there are 0 phones in your office? I'm currently switching everything over to SiteGround because they are amazing and the exact opposite of ASO. SG is more expensive but at least I know they'll do a better job. I currently have a ticket open with ASO about a refund for downtime and lost business from their poor service. The ticket has been open since September 26th and it's still not resolved. They refuse to give a refund (probably because they don't have any money since all their customers left them). They want to give me credit for future services and I literally laughed out loud. The worst possible service ever! A Small Orange actually used to be decent several years ago when I signed up. However, the quality has gone downhill. My VPS has been down for the 3rd time this year, and right now as I'm writing this review, it has been almost 24 hours and it is still down. The support is helpless and are the mercy of their system admins, who seem to be severely understaffed and/or incompetent. This is unacceptable and their 99.9% uptime guarantee is BS. I've had this aso isp since about 2015 or 16. They were great for the first several years. But now I'm getting spammed by their email server and I can't get in touch with anyone to get help. I hosted with A Small Orange (ASO) from Feb 2016 through Feb 2018. but starting in 2017 I got so many "your site is down" emails from my site monitor that I couldn't deal with it, even for the price. So I cancelled my account - not a big deal. A year later - I got CHARGED again, and realized I'd been charged for 2018 (a couple days after I cancelled). To start with a small orange is a web hosting company not a software company... I can only assume there isn't a hosting category. I moved the hosting of all my websites from dreamhost to aso a couple of years ago, the service at dreamhost had gone to hell along with the uptime and the support became pure crap. Considering I host between 30-50 websites and what a pain in the ass it is to move them all and after searching long and hard I decided to go with a vps at aso... the service was pretty fast and the uptime, from everything I could find out, appeared really good as well, they also had a pretty good reputation (then). So, I move everything over and it went fairly well...with the exception of them misinforming me of some things along the way... but I put that down to "shit happens". The short of it is for the first year or so, they were pretty great... they talk a good game btw about "crazy good service" and at first they really did deliver... if I did a tech support request I was getting a reply on the average of 4 hours... if you have been doing this a while you know that is decent. But they are the new "godaddy" now, and I mean that in the worst possible way. I really wish good was still the case, the uptime has become pure shit, the excuses never ending and the response time... good luck in getting a reply under 24 hours..... the only thing they are truly excellent at is training their staff to apologize constantly...and to the point it just rings hollow and its just wasted air. If you are looking for a hosting company I strongly suggest you move along and keep looking these folks (like many hosting companies I have used over the last 20 years) have grown way too fast and cant support the business they already have, but greed... is a powerful force.... you might show them the money, however they will NOT show you the competence. This last weekend was the worst yet with my sites up and down ALL weekend... I have been with ASO for about two months. Below is a chronological experience i have recently had with them when there was an outage and my website and email were down for the whole day. 1. I email ASO to open a ticket in order to fix the issue at 2:00pm after 9 hours of being down. I am traveling right now and was not aware of the issue until pingdom alerted me. 2. I cannot open a ticket because the ticketing system in my account is broken so I contact support which already closed. I contact online support and they create a ticket for me at 2:30pm 3. I cannot check on the status of the ticket because the ticketing system in my account is not showing this particular ticket, I contact support again. 4. I can now see the ticket and the generic reply that a "manager" sent me letting me know that everything is fixed and my website is working. 5. My website is still down because no one even bothered putting the url into a browser to check. 6. I try to open another ticket, the system gives me an error and says to email support. 7. I email support and get a reply that another ticket is already created regarding this issue so they don't want to address this one and closed it. 8. My website comes up for 20 minutes and then down again at 8:00 pm after being down for over 12 hours 9. I contact support again and after one hour they send me an email that everything is fixed. When I saw the site I was shocked, one of your techs deleted some of my plugins instead of deactivating them. 10. This was 7th outage in two months. As you can see the level of tech and customer service with this company is probably the worst I have experienced and I have been with GoDaddy in the past. It is a shame that the staff they hired and tech used is of such poor quality. read more

Prior to the latter part of 2015, they were one of the very best hosting providers, and this is mostly because their customer service was bar none. It was great. Their prices have always been too high, but their customer service used to make up for it. Starting in the latter part of 2015, they got rid of phone support, and it takes about 20 minutes on average to talk to anyone in live chat, and as they used to be able to actually do things in live chat, it's essentially now just a place for them to tell you, with virtually every problem, that you need to create a ticket. Ah, their ticketing system. It could be months before they answer their tickets. And then it's a crapshoot as far as whether they'll let you know whether they've answered your tickets--you usually get so much spam from them in emails that it's very hard to tell when they're actually giving you pertinent information about anything. Their billing department is GHASTLY. They give information in their FAQs when it comes to billing that is outdated and doesn't represent what the website currently is. Simple requests are met with..... nothing. Their quick links section of their site that takes you to important things in cpanel, including the cpanel itself, are broken. It used to be one of the very best, and now it's one of the very worst. I wouldn't recommend ASO to my enemies. The final straw was this month when I, for the 3rd time, requested to have billing charge me at the beginning of the month instead of the end of the month, I had signed up near the beginning of the month and it should have stayed that way. They then charged me 83 cents out of the blue and were going to shut down my website unless I paid it. Then when I asked them to add it into the next month's bill, they sent me another bill on the 22nd of this month and told me it was unpaid, and yesterday they sent me a warning email that my website would be shut down if I let it go any longer. When I got the email on the 22, I switched to ehost as my service provider and have never been happier. I can get unlimited disk space with them, unlike A Small Orange who, to my knowledge, doesn't even offer an unlimited disk space plan. Don't go with this company. I don't know what happened last year, but they turned into a crappy company. Supposedly they haven't been bought out, but I guess in their attempts to cut back on costs, they are short staffed, and offer terrible customer service. Update 4/20/16: Now they're giving me a second notice of a late payment I don't even owe... for a service I cancelled last month. Horrible. Where to start? I LOVED ASO back in the day when they weren't owned by EIG. Since they were purchased, their support system has gone from helpful, convenient, and useful to absolutely atrocious. Asking a simple question (this morning, why is my domain locked for transfer even though it says "unlocked" on the customer dashboard) requires 2+ hours of back and forth with "support" outsourced to India, prepared to tell you to turn it off and back on again. Today's "fix" for the domain lock was "I toggled the lock setting". It's still locked. Such a shame to see ASO go down the drain. Despite what this article claims, their support is not useful and their uptime has taken a nosedive in the past few years too. I got fed up with Jetpack from Wordpress emailing me 1x a day telling me my site was offline, and sometimes far more often. I'm switching everything away from ASO as soon as possible so that I can get better support and uptime elsewhere. read more

They have since been acquired by EIG and, as reviews across the Internet will confirm, they are about the worst hosting company/domain registrar you could imagine. I had major issues during my first WEEK, and ended up cancelling service (both online and by phone). ASO has continued to bill me annually (since 2014), and trying to resolve the issue has been like pulling teeth; in fact, I was billed another $50.00 today (PayPal has blocked ASO from further billing of my account - but I'm still out fifty bucks for nothing). I have been with ASO since 2014. I did not experience any problems with ASO until recently, when my domain went down and I could not receive outside emails. As of today, it has been down for 3 days. Avoid A Small Orange at all costs. Back in 2014 they were an excellent company. Now they are a terrible company. Here's why: Customer service: This was by far their best selling point and the reason I was willing to pay more for ASO than other competing hosts. They used to be fast, helpful, and efficient. Now they are slow, unhelpful, and inefficient. There are 3 open tickets over 4 months old in my queue at the time of this review. Servers: Their servers also experienced a decline and now there is frequent unplanned downtime. The hardware they use is clearly old and performance of sites I used to host at ASO is much faster elsewhere (currently using DigitalOcean). Pricing: Their pricing has not lowered to reflect the much, much worse service they have become. I repeat: avoid ASO at all costs. They are useless. I'd rather give 0 stars but since I can't do that I guess 1 will have to do. I purchased an account through them years ago, never used it and wanted to get out of paying every year to do so. Well customer support never gets back to me, I can't log into my account anymore (even after sending a password reset request I never get an email to) they sent me email after email telling me that they couldn't charge my card because it was expired then ironically they charged it anyway. I email them weekly at this point and the lack of anything with this company is astounding. The other reviews here before me reflect the overall nature of the company in all aspects (support, quality, misleading quality of service). My websites began to experience significant downtime (hours, even days) and began getting emails from customers and visitors about it. After long and slow exchanges with "Support", I was later informed that my server was running on outdated and poor hardware and software (thus admitting the downtime on their behalf). Of course, I had no idea that was the case. When I requested a partial refund for the services, I was blamed and was told it was my responsibility to have requested an upgrade to newer technologies (which I was never notified or even knew existed). They declined all forms of reconciliation for the long periods of downtime and only offered a "free upgrade", which would have been done regardless if they were aware my system was outdated. After escalating the issue to upper management, I requested a refund for all the months my site was actively affected. Get this, they waited TWO MONTHS to respond to the support ticket, after I sent THREE follow-up emails asking them to prioritize it. They issued a refund of guess what, 3 months. When confronted about the absurdly/unbelievable/incomprehensibly slow response, they said on the phone, "We can't guarantee how fast a response will be on any given issue." After being a long-time customer, I wish I would have switched to another provider long before I did. Which brings me to my last and final straw: I requested termination of the account using the correct termination form on the Admin. It has been more than 2 MORE MONTHS with no response. My account is still open and I am receiving spam emails asking me to sign up for more hosting accounts at "65% Off". This is literally the worst hosting company I have ever known and would recommend staying far away. I have tried MediaTemple, DigitalOcean, GoDaddy, BlueHost, etc. and would recommend every one of them over "A Small Orange". read more

So so bad. Avoid at all cost. I have a dedicated, managed server with them any paying for priority support. No response to a ticket for nearly 2 weeks. No way to call, only live chat which is just there telling you someone will look at your ticket immediately. Customer service used to be great but it's fallen apart over the last 18 months. I don't write many reviews, it takes a lot to push me into action. Their customer service/support is the probably the worst I have ever come across in any field (yes, worse than Comcast!). If you're prepared to pay for hosting but don't actually want your website live, this is the place for you. If you want your website to be able to be viewed, go somewhere else. They only have chat, the average wait time is well over 30min and the support on the other end has very little technical knowledge and simply create "support tickets" that never get addressed. They should be ashamed of themselves, I have not been treated so horribly by any service, ever in my life. I chatted a few days ago with two of their employees because my site couldn't get published with the info they were providing me. The first person was rude, had me on the chat for an hour and a half and gave me a solution that didn't work and then accused me of not explaining the situation to her proberly, I kept asking to chat with a supervisor but she never let me so eventually I hung up and started a new chat. The new guy gave me another completely different opinion that still didn't work and then accused my computer and said that he'll have Put out in a ticket and he doesn't know when that will be answered. I asked for a refund and said that this is inexcusable, after all I just wanted the right information to publish my site, and the information they were providing me didn't work. I was on chat with him for over an hour so almost two hours of wasted ducking time. So basically a few days later you send me an email saying that youre closing the ticket and no one has even bother to respond. I am assuming that this will be ignored too. SHAME ON THEM, I will make sure to go to every review website there is and make this information public. They should not be operating, SHAME ON THEM for treating their customers this way. There's no easy way to complain about this company but there is a reason. Back in the day A Small Orange was AMAZING. When I tell you ANY problem could be solved with 1 chat, I'm dead serious. They had amazing support, it was bar none. Fast forward to today and they have been sold off to the same company that owns bluehost, hostmonster and a whole host of others. It really feels like this company is trying to bury itself. I invited a friend over by mistake. I now know what I've done and I feel like I should be punished. She has 1 add on domain she wants added to her hosting and I kid you not, it has taken over 30 days due to an error on their end. It's beyond unacceptable. I just cancelled my services through them in the last month. It was a nightmare from start to finish. I went with them because I wanted to support a smaller start-up. Their directions from the start for what was needed for email contact and set-up was like they were looking at a whole other screen. It would take them over a week to two weeks to get back to me regarding concerns. after charging me the first time for a full year, they continued to withdraw monthly funds and then I had to fight to get they money back. That took them more time than they would tolerate to get money back from me if there was a payment overdue. This last month I was unable to upload my site and the support staff used technical terms that made a lot of assumptions about the level of tech experience people have, and it would take them two or three days to get back. In some cases my tickets went unanswered. Finally, after not being able to get my site up, and referring me to download a program where I would upload to the site and that didn't work because it was incredibly complicated...and my site had already been without update for over a month I cancelled. I had just renewed my $200 yearly fee for the next year and they told me it was in the contract that the fee was non-refundable. So you don't have to respond, be helpful or actually provide the services...and still get paid. Any ethical organization would have taken responsibility for their massive failure. So now I am with a big company, but had to transfer my email info, and then they locked my domain. That took a week to unlock and so I had to buy another domain name. If there were negative ratings in fire-balls...there would be 5 fireballs. The whole place seems toxic and unhelpful, actually cost me hundreds of dollars, which makes a difference for a small business. read more
