    Grilled Cod
    Somya S.

I had heard a lot about this place. There was a lineup. I think I waited about an hour. The weather was nice so I did not mind. Plus I wanted to try it. Once I sat down, it took about half an hour for the only waitress to take my order and bring out the food. I ordered Grilled cuttlefish and Grilled cod. They were alright. Like anywhere else. Not worth the hype or the wait. I had the house wine. Go if you have time but not because you'd be trying an iconic little restaurant. It is definitely affordable.

Tucked in a quiet alley near Rossio Square is A Provinciana, a very popular Portuguese tasca. We arrived a few minutes before they opened and there was already a line of ~10 people. Luckily we managed to score some seats, but within 20 minutes of opening, all seats were full and the line of 20+ long. A soup, two entrees, and two cokes ran us less than 20€. Price-wise, this was a great deal. Unfortunately I think this place is overhyped. Food was simple and tasted homey, but definitely lacking. We had an amazing meal at another restaurant the night before for a total of 30€ for two, and I'd go back to that place any day over A Provinciana.

Solid local joint with one waitress, cash only. Show up right when they open for a table. Generous with the wine!

**CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED** This place was busy. We arrived on a July Tuesday at 7:54pm, and the place was full. We thought we will have to wait for half an hour to get a table, but apparently this place is all about being friendly with your neighbours - tables are all shared. The decor is a traditional bar-turned-restaurant look and feel. The atmosphere is cozy and hostess treated everyone kindly. On the other side of the wall is a collection of various clocks all telling different times. Taste, portion, price: We ordered our food along with house wine at 8:13pm. Our house red wine (Vinho de Casa)in a non-labeled glass bottle for 750mL (EUR4.20) came at 8:14pm. It tastes like a very off-dry Merlot. Pratos dos Dia - Chanafana de Cabra EUR4.95 (Plate of the Day - lamb ribs stew with potatoes) came at 8:26pm. THIS DISH HAS A LOT OF MEAT and a couple of broiled potatoes. It tastes like a Cantonese lamb stew in a clay pot, but with a bit less seasoning. Sardinhas assadas com batatas EUR6 (Sardines grilled with potatoes) arrived at 8:33pm. I recieved 5 sardines and they are quite decent sized with enough broiled potatoes for your needs. The fishes were grilled to perfection and nicely done. The only thing I forgot to ask is if they can put no salt as I find the fishes too salty for my liking. Overall, this place earns quin-tupple threat (great location, price, portion, taste, payment options)!

Go here for tascas! Recommended by a local and did not disappoint. We were the only tourists in the spot. Tucked away in an ally with a line that moved quickly. Order cheese and prosciutto to start, and you'll watch buddy behind the bar scraping the meat off the leg with his knife and prepping the cheese as fresh as could be. Order the house wine. It's cheap and delicious (€4 per bottle). Being from a Newfoundland family I ordered the cod cheeks. Thankfully the waitress told me it's the whole fish head. So why not, I went for it. Not what I expected though. It wasn't a gaping whole head staring at me from a plate. But split in half lengthwise so you could get all the meat and skin and fat. Dessert was delicious. I don't know the name but flan style and lots of custard options. Order lots of things. Order dessert. And fall in love with tascas! You won't regret it and you'll love how cheap the bill comes out to be!

Cute hole in the wall for affordable and authentic portuguese food! Food/Drink: We ordered the grilled cod fish that came with potatoes and salad as well as the pork steak which also came with its own sides. The portions are pretty sizable but if you're hungry, it's best to order one dish per person. We also got a bottle of their house wine which was divine Price: It was our first night in Lisbon and we were shocked by how much food you can get for only 10 euros! Our two dishes and a bottle of wine came out to a mere total of 24 euros which was unbelievably affordable for the quality and quantity of food you get. Atmosphere: The restaurant is run by three people the mother cooks, the father pours drinks and the daughter serves. The daughter was very friendly and spoke great english. There seemed to be healthy mix of locals and tourists so it's quaint enough to be authentic but you don't have to worry about language barrier. Tips: wine is only 3 euros a cup here!

The restaurant is away from tourist neighbor. But I suspect its target customers are tourists…read more They play American pop music all night long which is fine with me, but if you are looking for a local experience, this may not what you expected. Pastries de Bacalhau - the crust was not brown enough. May be longer time. The stuffing was flavorful but it's more the cod taste than the flavored mash potatoes which I prefer. I actually prefer the other local restaurant I tried the night before better. Caldo Verde - The potatoe part of the soup is great. Perfect viscosity but the flavor is not. It wasn't salty enough but more importantly is the flavor of the veggies and the spicy sausage they supposed to use that makes the soup taste different. Grilled giant pawns - The flavor of the prawns is not as intense as expected and hope to be. The squid ink pasta also lacked of flavor. That's disappointing. With the prawns, they should at least use the prawn shell to make sauce for the pastas. The pasta was tasteless, didn't even use enough garlic and olive oil to flavor it up. Seafood rice - Another disappointment. They used fish, small mussels and little bit of shrimp pieces along with some bigger whole shrimps and mussels. However, the rice was lack of the true seafood flavor that made from shell fish. They also added cilantro which overwhelmed the whatever left of seafood flavor. The lemonade was not a sweet lemonade but sour. Fyi. It's not fair we just went to another restaurant in the neighborhood and everything was so much better but people should know.
