The driving instructor experience was fine and I believe my daughter had a positive experience. I was grateful that they offered to pick her up at home and drop her off at school. The instructor was great to work with and was very flexible on scheduling. However, the customer service at the driving test could really use improvement. If we had to do it again, the dmv would have been the better option. Here are my improvement recommendations for a better experience at the driving test. Greeting: Don't do: How old are you? Do: Hi student great to see you, are you excited to finally get to the final step of getting your license? Is your parent with you? Process - before the driving test: Don't do: Make your client wait while you wrap up a call with an employee. (This wasn't a show stopper but have a feeling if we were late, we would have been reprimanded so when a client shows up on time, don't make them wait.) Do: Provide a simple explanation of the process including the purpose of the verbal questions that were already covered/passed on the written portion. In the explanation include that the questions aren't being graded and are being asked only to help when they go out to drive. This will help the student relax and not be so nervous. Do: Slow down asking these questions. Remember the student is nervous and even though these questions have been asked over and over again by the owner, the student is hearing them for the first time or it's been awhile. Don't Do: If a student answers these verbal questions incorrectly, work on the shaming facial expression of "are you stupid, we taught you this" and don't talk down to the student. They already feel bad they missed the question and they think it's being scored against them. Miscellaneous Don't Do: Try to prove the paying customer wrong. Don't let ego ruin the potential for a good customer service experience. Process - After the driving test: Don't Do: Skip the hug - it's not very professional and a lot of folks aren't comfortable hugging a stranger. Do: A professional congratulatory handshake would be much preferred and more business professional. Do: Include in the email with the certificate a "thank you for using A-1 Driving School. We know there are several options and we appreciate you choosing us for such an important milestone in your child's life" On our way out, I asked my child if she thought the experience was condescending. She said yes, but that was the way we were talked to throughout the 8 hour classroom session, so I was used to it. Up until the driving test, I had been giving glowing reviews to other parents looking for a driving school. I only wish the last step could have been a positive one.

The North Carolina teen driving process felt overwhelming as someone coming from another state…read more Building Confidence Driving School helped improve my understanding of the NC process and made getting my son his driver's license much easier. DMV appointments are difficult to get and availability can be months out. However, my son was able to take the road test through the school which eliminated the waiting period. Angelo was a great instructor who was patient and easy to work with. He even took my son to the DMV to get his driver's license after they completed the road test. I'd definitely recommend Building Confidence Driving School to any parents of a teenager trying to obtain their license. The school will be there to help you and your teen meet the requirements process, while also helping you avoid the hassle that comes in dealing with the NCDMV.

I ended up in a sticky situation with another establishment I had put multiple driving hours in with but due to their road vehicle no longer being available I had to quickly find another company to help me with my DMV road test. Not only did I ace my road test but their team was professional, very knowledgeable in the requirements (learner permits, non-owner car insurance, etc.) and held my hand through the entire process. Gratitude to Angelo and Lisa.,

EVERY teen NEEDS this course! DO NOT SKIP THIS!!!!…read more I think anyone with a teen driver with access to this program is INSANE if you don't attend this class. It's a $99 sign up fee, which is returned to you if you sign up with a paper check (yes, you can mail it in). But honestly, the $99 donation to attend this is a steal and INFINITELY VALUABLE if you value your kiddo's life! We did the course 2 years ago for our older teen (pre-covid) & now just completed for the younger teen (post-covid). I wouldn't care if I had to wear a mask the whole day to do this class - I PROMISE you it's PRICELESS to give your teen driver some REAL experience and some good education about driving hazards. Driver training is just not the same as it used to be (and people drive larger cars and faster speeds than 20-30-40 years ago when we all learned!), and even with a year of permit-driving your kid won't get what they can at this course. Hazard/avoidance skills, ABS steering skills, SKID skills (yes, really skidding, like control out of a 360-spin), and drop-curb (tire off road in gravel) experience, curve control, even a simulated drunk-driving (affectionately called "drunk goggles") experience. There's probably even more in there that I forgot! Instructors are AWESOME and really give the full-experience to every kid. YOU DO NOT NEED A VEHICLE to do this - so even if you have to Uber to the program that's fine! An adult does need to attend with the teen, 30 hours on permit driving to attend (yes, they can go before full-license). Don't be put off by the ONE presentation by a Kia Dealer/Rep - Kia (in Charlotte anyway) sponsors and provides the vehicles for this program - it's why the cost is still $99 after years of the program running! Let Kia get their little 'schpeal' in & be patient, again this is abut preparing your kid for REAL driving scenarios that you will never be able to provide in a SAFE environment! Are there some wait times, yes on occasion - let's all be ADULTS here and understand things are sometimes beyond control and 'crap' happens. The program is SMOOTHLY RUN and you'll get all your info by email of what to do, when to go, number to call for issues, etc. (just READ the emails peeps!). Again - I promise you will not regret the skills your teen (and even YOU, you'll get to drive a little also!) will get from this experience. https://putonthebrakes.org
