We recently got married as the golf club and had terrible experience. It also took us hounding them for weeks after the wedding to receive the inventory to confirm their numbers. The coordinator Kayla is not qualified for the job. She is very unorganised and is not professional. She would not return our emails or messages for weeks before the wedding. We only got a response after calling every day for three days. Due to this we were unable to confirm aspects of our food orders and time plan for the wedding. She was rude to our guests, she disappeared during the setup, and some of the vendors were told the wrong information causing our ceremony area to not be set up. When they did set it up, it was not how we intended it, and it was last minute while guests where at the ceremony area. She reneged on our agreements that had already been made and tried to negotiate the price with us during the reception. The bartenders did not have a bottle opener for the drinks we had ordered specifically for the event and lost the bottle openers that we loaned them. They also stopped serving certain drinks due to having to walk to the other bar for supplies. The General Manager was also rude and would not make time for us to discuss the problems we had with the coordinator and the venue. The General Manager and the Coordinator both failed to take responsibility for the mistakes and short comings at our event and refused to reimburse us in any way. We had to fight tooth and nail for them to honour the agreements we had made prior to the wedding. Do not have your wedding at this venue.

When we arrived for our appointment and tour of the place, he had a folder of information ready for us. He made suggestions and offered to customize a meal plan. The place was very pretty and located in a great part of the city. In the end we did not book at Niakwa because there was a minimum of 160 guests that had to be invited. Our wedding will be much smaller, at about 120 guests, so we didn't think having a host bar to make up for the lack of guests would be suitable for us. Foods at weddings can be quite the disappointment due to crazy logistics and volumes at these events. But I have to say that I was impressed with the food. The appys consisted of mushroom bruschetta, vegetable wontons w/ plum suace, Thai chicken skewers, California roll, goat cheese with fresh herbs on tomato slices and a panchetta item. Overall, the appys were cooked properly and tasted good; an average to good showing here. I was impressed that the chicken skewers were quite juicy (and unusually large). The bread basket was pretty good as I ate 3 rolls to tie me over till dinnertime. They were the usual, whole wheat, white and pumpernickel dinner buns but tasted quite fresh! The Roasted Tomato Bisque with Puff Pastry Cheese Straw was really good despite the fact that it was a really hot summer night. The baby green and beet chip salad with sautéed red onion & goat cheese served with a calamata vinaigrette was a delicious salad. The salad was fresh and was not wilted. I loved that they didn't cheap out on the goat cheese as so many kitchens wimp out on that. The beet chip sounded interesting but really, just tasted like a chip from those vegetable chip assortments - I would've preferred roasted beets instead. The main was basil pesto, smoked mozzarella & braised leek stuffed chicken with a sun dried tomato cream sauce. It also came with potatoes, asparagus, red peppers, zucchini and shredded beets. I liked everything about this dish except for the cream sauce as it was too rich and heavy for me. Not that I would've wanted the proverbial brown sauce on chicken. Overall, a great dish as the chicken was super moist (pretty amazing feat as the whole reception was running about an hour behind so I'm sure that threw the kitchen's timing off). The vegetables were all cooked perfectly. The dessert was a Chocolate Bomb drizzled with White Chocolate with Raspberry Coulis & Chantilly Cream. It tasted more like a gelato as it wasn't quite an ice cream. It was a nice dessert - better than a cake! Service was decent - food came out pretty quickly to all the tables. The bartenders were efficient in making drinks as I recall visiting them pretty often! Overall, good caterers as the food here was on par or even better than what I've ever had at the Fairmont or Fort Garry events.

It was full of ice crystals like stuff you forget about in the freezer for a year. Also, I found their mini poutines to be lack lustre and the pink in the middle hamburger sliders left me somewhat concerened about food safety. Oh, and the redheaded waitress needs to check her shitty attitude at the door (no, I wasn't rude to her - I know waiting tables is not easy and I'm therefore very polite to servers, bartenders, etc. This girl was just rude!).

On multiple occasions weeks would go by and I would have to follow up...she would cite that she had forgotten or thought she had already responded. Once we submitted our deposit she added on items to our quote without letting us know...I anticipated during this time that we would have huge complications with the bill...and we did. Before we even received the bill or the service she put a charge through on my credit card (WITHOUT my authorization). She changed her prices for decoration clean up after we had already committed to her. Overall I had a terrible experience...she seems to be the cheapest in town...but it's for a reason...

Marc sent someone in his place to our wedding, who told us he had never dj'ed before. This "backup…read moreof a backup" (Marc's words) showed up in an open, trashy looking Hawaiian shirt to our wedding at the fort garry hotel. He managed to not play any of the proper music agreed upon previously with Marc for the ceremony, instead playing rock songs for the wedding procession (instead of classical). He did not play the music we agreed on for the wedding reception, and would not play the songs requested to him in person by the bride and groom. Marc was contacted the night of, and told both the bride and the groom that he was on his way. He never bothered to show. A full refund was requested and received. Unfortunately the damage has been done and far exceeded the original payment given to Marc. An iPod and wireless speakers would have been a much wiser idea than trusting this company. If you don't want to run the risk of someone having a major screwup on your special day, avoid using supreme entertainer.
