My cousin was first so we sat for a bit until Rick arrived as we came in a few minutes early for our appointments. I wanted long, flowy curls that would stand up to a few hours and into the night since I knew my hair would relax with the humidity and just naturally since my hair is long and fine. By the time it was my turn, I discussed my idea with Rick, showing my photos and telling him my hair doesn't hold a curl after awhile so I have to spray it with a lot of hairspray. He washed my hair with very warm water, then blow-dried/blow-out first to dry my hair. If the water is too hot, just communicate that. The hair dryer reminded me of my Dyson the way the air flowed and sounded. Afterwards, Rick sprayed my hair with an extreme hold hairspray prior to curling with a curling iron then sprayed again w/hairspray. I'd say only one time I felt the hot curling iron really close to my scalp. Otherwise, things went smoothly. I was probably finished within an hour. My curls were definitely sturdy. I asked Rick if he would tease the back of my hair since I like volume but he didn't want to add another dimension & mess with the curls. The curls held below the chin for the rest of the night but fell around my face and around my head. I think it was the humidity and because I have fine hair. It was a pretty style and my cousin who has really thick hair had curls that lasted all day and into the evening. My other cousin had an updo with soft face-framing curls. That was very elegant and the design of her bun in the back was intricate. Rick did a nice job working with her shorter-length hair with lots of bobby pins and creative design. The shop has a modern & spacious feel. There's a eyebrow services place adjoining the shop.

If I could give this place more than five stars, I would!…read more I called every single salon on island with the same message explaining what I needed help with and this place was the only place that texted me back with compassion and real help that same day. I was at the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit on Oahu and had a hospital bun. I had a lot of seizures within a short period of time which matted and dreaded my hair. I could not detangle it myself and it was weighing on my self-confidence. After so much hair loss already, I wanted to save the length. This team responded to my request of detangling with such care, compassion, and patience. When I arrived I was assured that they were going to take care of me and my hair. This team was so kind to me and worked diligently on my hair for at least 3.5 hours. I was reminded that this is why they do what they do in this service industry. They accomplished this tedious task with gentleness, wonderful hospitality and fun. Towards the end of the detangling Jamie wanted to trim the ends of my hair to make my hair fuller with cleaner ends. I was floored by this team's generosity as they did NOT even charge me for this service that took up hours of their time and much effort. Jaime- you are the best! This team is extraordinary and I am forever grateful for their dedication to their work, their generosity and their kind hearts. This is a rare thing to find these days. I cannot say enough amazing things about this team of stylists! I am blessed beyond measure for what they did for me. And I will tell everyone I know about how awesome they are! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We looked around and I was immediately taken with Hanalei Day Spa, because the owner's passion was palpable, even across the internet. We arrived and were cheerfully greeted by the owner at the front desk, and she was more than happy to explain the process and answer our questions. She introduced us to our massage therapists, Renata and Lou, and we followed them to a gorgeous set up with shade and the waves in the background. Both Renata and Lou asked us about our aches and pains and injuries, and let us know how they planned to run our 50 min massage. They told us to undress to our comfort, made sure we were happy with the table height, and asked if we need more or less pressure as they started, I've never felt so considered in a massage setting before! As our massages ended and went back to the lobby to settle up, the owner asked us how our experiences were, and I blurted out "I've never felt so loose!" But as soon as the words left my mouth, I realized that not only was I looser than ever, but I was standing straight without hunching my spine AND that the pain I've carried in my back and shoulders for the last 20 years was GONE. Not lessened, not eased, but absolutely and unequivocally, gone. As I realized this I started to cry happy/relief tears; I couldn't help it! I'd never have imagined a 50 min massage could eliminate years and years of accumulated pain. I started to apologize for crying, and the owner started tearing up herself and told me to "never apologize for beautiful emotion", which only made me cry more. It's been a few days since, and my back has stayed straight, my pain has stayed gone, and my gratitude (to Renata especially) only grows deeper. It's clear that this spa is run by people who are dedicated, caring, knowledgeable, and incredibly sweet. I can't thank them enough!

The spa area itself is small, but very relaxing. The women's area has locked rooms, outdoor rain showers (all with privacy curtains), 3 more accessible showers with doors/curtains, a steam room, sauna, and hot tub. All the bathroom amenities were provided including hair dryers, curlers, and straighteners, moisturizers, deodorant, and even SPF. I was also given slippers and a robe. Unlimited towels are available as well as scented cold towels to use after the saunas. There is also a tea bar, iced lemon water, iced tea, and snacks (almonds and a fruity trail mix). Food is available for purchase (with some hidden fees) and you are not allowed to bring in outside food. However, the spa pass does allow for in and out privileges so you could leave for food. The common area consists of some tables, a warmed lap pool, and 2 very hot jacuzzis with some loungers. We appreciated that most of the loungers were under the building's overhang which provided shade while sitting outside. There are also a few "wellness" books provided to read while lounging. Officially, the spa is supposed to be cell phone free, but this was not enforced. Complementary parking for the day was included in the pass, so we were able to explore the grounds of the hotel which were stunning and access the beach side walking path through the hotel. Just make sure to get your parking pass validated! I would highly recommend this experience, particularly if you want to decompress, shower, and change before a late flight.

It was my husband's and my anniversary so he treated me to the 90 minute outside massage. They give you a locker, towels, a robe, and slippers. The co-ed area has a lap pool, two jacuzzis, and a tiny cold plunge (more like a seat). You can order food from a phone. They had iced tea and flavored water along with nuts and candied fruits. On the women's side there was a sauna and steam room that smelled like eucalyptus and a cold shower if you get too hot and a jacuzzi. There are cold small towels throughout to wipe your head, shoulders, or wherever. You wait in the ladies area before being called into a hall with bathroom along the way and rock waterfall. There's another co-ed sitting room with more tea water and apple bananas and cold small towels with recliner chairs. Then you go into a jungle looking area with small huts where you get your massage. I very much enjoyed my massage and felt like I went to outer space at least twice. I forgot my worries and came to the conclusion that I truly have none worth fretting about. I think service could've been more helpful and friendly. I came the day before to prepare but they only confirmed and did not go out of their way to help me feel welcome. They asked if they could include the service charge (i think about 20-21%) which ended up being $78, total bill was about $390. We're the type that like to tip and even more so bc we want to support the islands and the workers who feel like family to us so of course we don't mind but I can see how some ppl would given that service wasn't all that great (besides the kick-*** massage - no complaints there). In sum, it was perfect but for the price could be better. I still want to come back.
