    View from the patio!
    Laura C.

I stopped in for breakfast and had two coffees, a scone, and a bagel with cream cheese! Good coffee shop option but more of a grab and go style - not a cozy coffee shop. That said, the patio is right in the center of town and I sat and enjoyed the view of the church and the mountains for quite a while and wrote some postcards - if it's a nice day to sit outside you should come here for a snack and enjoy the picnic tables!

The most incredible spot, we came here twice in a row and wanted to visit again for a third dinner,…read morebut they were closed for the day. Let me tell you something....... THE YUZU MISO COD!!! WOW! Easily one of the best things I've ever eaten. Cooked to actual perfection, the most delicate and soft flakes, infused with (not overly sweet) glaze. I'm like daydreaming just thinking about it. Every bite. I was floored. Even by the last few bites, I was still so impressed, it might as well have been the first. And that broccolini had phenomenal flavor/texture. Oh, and the savory butter board focaccia has ruined all other bread/butter for me. I fear I'll never be the same. On par with the food, Beak is community-driven, centering people, values, and quality, locally sourced ingredients. It was awesome to see where the main dishes were sourced from, right there on the menu (all Alaskan groups or local Sitka cooperatives!). My gosh, it makes a difference, and each bite is even more special. If you have a moment, I'd really encourage checking out their website and reading through the 'About' section. You'll fall even more head-over-heels in love with this place. Beak is the model for the future we need. Each staff member we interacted with was 10/10 stellar. They were beaming when talking about the owner/chef and how much they loved working there. Beak is gratuity-free (non-tipping), and any place that pays its staff a living wage gets extra points in my book! Any tips go to staff-selected charities/causes in the area. I'll argue with anyone: the pricing is awesome. Like.. actually take a second and think about it: - LOCAL ingredients.. that means great quality, AND you're supporting local communities (and they're *locally-run* ones too, I really can't emphasize this enough... **especially** if you're coming here as a tourist, you better be actively trying to find ways to support the community) - Gratuity-free/included in pricing!! - And, oh yeah, it's like the best bite of food I've had in my life. We don't even need to compare on relativity because Beak speaks for itself, but if you really want to go there -- live in any other coastal city, and you'll realize that it's a steal. Like it's actually bonkers. No one's doing this. I doubt anyone reads this far on a Yelp review, but even if I'm shouting into the void, it'll be in praise for Beak. Someone call the tire man, Chef Renee deserves her star!

So dang good, we came back again for lunch before heading to the airport. On the first go around,…read morewe had both White and Red King salmon, and both were exceptional. It was our first time for white king salmon for both of us. We split a massaged kale salad, and I have to say I am not the biggest fan of kale, but this "tasted like Christmas". Very enjoyable. As if that were not enough, and it normally would have been, it was also strongly suggested that we get a cup of the creamy house salmon chowder. That one was perfection. I would probably eat her once, if not twice, a week if I lived in Sitka. On the second time around, we brought a friend who also fell in love with the food and vibe. I tried the duck fat & huckleberry dessert. I love duck fat in general, so I expected it to be very good, and it was even better than that. I believe it was a version of Akutaq. They also served the version with vegetable fat. I deeply enjoyed mine. I will definitely come back here should I make it back to Sitka again.

I have to say this was one of the best I have tasted in a long time and is top if not best one I have had period. The quality is top notch. I can tell when seafood is old or cheap and the quality of this was TOP QUALITY ! I also got to try the clam chowder and it was delicious. I have tried many different clam chowders in a variety of states and I have to say this was excellent. Fresh and full of birth flavor, clams and potatoes. With a little drizzle of White Truffle oil. Hands down one of the best meals I have had in a long time. The owners Scott and Kyle were amazing to talk to and you can tell the pride they take by the favors and the fresh high quality seafood. Definitely enjoyed meeting these folks and learning about where they get the seafood from. For the quality one of the best priced on Maui. The ambiance is great at this food truck pod. You can tell that a lot of time and thought went into the setup and it really shows. My new favorite spot on the island and highly recommend stoping by and having some great food. I know I will definetly be going back to sample the fish and chips and maybe get myself another lobster roll.

The kind of love that envelops you when you walk into a room, instantly making you feel welcome. That is the kind of magic that simple ingredients in the hands of those who actually care can have. Ma chère amie, please do not imagine that the menu is limited only to old-world gluten heaven. No. The magic extends to those who cannot partake. However, you must peruse that menu at your own leisure. For me, as I can happily partake in such hedonistic gluten, I had a special of turkey, pesto, avocado, and the ooziest, creamiest, most decadent cheese that, alas, I do not recall the name of. But the real superstar, nay, the Josephine Baker of pastries was a pistachio bun (?!?). This was heaven paired perfectly with strong coffee. I may add, it was the only good coffee I had in Alaska. One would expect this in Paris, in a small shop run by a husband and wife with an oven that has been lit for maybe a 100 years. But to stumble into this slice of heaven, accidentally. Divine. 10 out of 10, would recommend.
