We hired A List for a party this past weekend. $35 per hour for one worker. She did an excellent job. It was a small party with catered food. The hired help was just expected to add more food to the buffet when it got low and take out the trash. It was a very low stress gig. We were very pleased with what she did. But then after it was over, I was told that a minimum of $50 was required for a tip. That's a 30% tip. The owner even called me to explain that if I didn't give such a big tip, it means that I thought the worker did a horrible job. She did a great job, and I tipped her that amount but not knowing that it was going to cost an additional 30% is significant. Anyway, would I recommend the service, yes. But just know that a 30% tip is expected and they'll even call you and try to make you feel bad for it. In the paper work, it does say that a $50 tip is average. It seems that they don't understand what the word average means because they think it means minimum. She told me that some of her clients tip $100 and $150 sometimes. Well I don't know how big those parties were, how long those parties lasted or what they were required to do, but apparently they don't take that into consideration. So think twice about hiring these guys if it's just a small get together like we had. They'll expect you to tip like you had them walking up flights of stairs, serving hundreds of guest. smh read more
