Every time a new technician showed up, they spent more time trash-talking the previous guy's work than trying to rectify their mistake(s). Now, my front yard has more many "bare" spots and my backyard has tufts of grass that remind me of the Muppet character Beaker's hair. I effectively paid to have my property professionally sabotaged. We had a scheduled sprinkler turn on that was postponed a few hours - no big deal. The tech didn't arrive until 7:30 - still not a big deal, but for the second year in a row we were told the back-flow device was broken and he couldn't turn the system on and we would need to buy a replacement.. we called another company that came out and turned the system on and told us our back flow was working just fine.. A+ then sent us an invoice for all of it so we sent them a message letting them know that none of the invoiced services occurred so we would be happy to pay a travel fee or whatnot but not for all the services they didn't actually do on top of trying to make us buy ANOTHER back-flow device. Eventually someone said they would be in contact with us to chat about it, we received another invoice and late notice, we still haven't been able to get a hold of anyone and now they found our credit card from the previous year and just billed it instead for the full invoice amount... still not hearing back from them. Thank you Kendall. This was the very first time we ever had a problem with chiggers--and also the first time we've ever called on a lawn care company. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect, but A+ Lawn and Landscaping has gone above and beyond to show their commitment. The first time they came out, they sprayed, but I didn't notice much difference. I gave them a call, and without hesitation they came back out again. Unfortunately, my dog was still chewing on his feet and itching, and I was still dealing with bites, vacuuming constantly, and changing sheets. On my third call, I was a little nervous they might think I was being difficult, but instead I was treated with nothing but kindness and respect. They reassured me and promised to come back out once again to address the problem. This level of true customer service is rare these days. They didn't dismiss my concerns, and they never made me feel like a burden. Instead, they showed professionalism, patience, and a genuine desire to help. I can confidently say that A+ Lawn and Landscaping stands behind their work and their word. That kind of dedication is hard to find, and I deeply appreciate it.!!! Never have I ever felt so compelled to write a negative review for a company in my life. I don't even know where to begin with the terrible service that this company has provided. Last fall we had them come out to blow out our irrigation system. My husband left work early to meet them, and no one showed. Then we called to reschedule, and they were so used to having people no show that they didn't seem at all phased. The next time, again, no show. The third time, someone actually came and halfway through their equipment broke and he said he had to leave to get a new part and would be back. Did he come back?? You guessed it, NO. Then they assured us they would have someone out and not charge us for anything. They billed us over and over again and when we swore them off for life, we discovered that our system was not blown out correctly last year, and now we have damage. We called, even though we did not want to, and they assured us that a manager would come out to assist us. Did he show?? NOPE. I hate this company so much. read more

We have a lot of plants/trees and we were just in need of some weed control and fertilization. They were very helpful and did a great job. A plus lawn technician was very knowledgeable and took time to understand my concerns and personalized my service. Overall they are pretty affordable and are helpful with anything you may need. Definitely recommend them to anyone needing anything done with their lawn. Their treatment to my yard made my lawn look beautiful all spring and summer. DON'T EVER USE A PLUS LANDSCAPE SERVICES FROM LAUREL, MD. I am a 79 year old disabled veteran and their workers blew cuttings and leaves from across the street into my hard while my sister and I watched them do it. I politely at first asked them to please clean up the mess they made and they refused. The argument got heated and they were rude, disrespectful and I felt threatened. I am not physically able to clean up their mess. When I called the office to complain the manager said they would not clean it up because I wasn't paying them. The staff was always apologetic, but they just couldn't provide the service as promised. Took off work to be home during an appointment for spring irrigation start up. Shortly after arriving the technician said a part was cracked, he didn't have the piece to fix it, and it would cost $168 for the repair. (I really question how the piece got cracked, but I won't go there.) On the second visit the next technician told me the whole backflow would need to be replaced rather than just the cracked valve.. When asked why, the technician said they don't make that part anymore. Stating they don't make a 1inch ball valve, which isn't true. Back to the first visit, The technician called the scheduler in our driveway and rescheduled an appointment to fix the crack and finish the spring start up. We rearranged our schedule to be home during the next appointment. No one showed up. I called and called, waiting on hold for 20+ minutes multiple times. Finally, after 2 hours of our appointment time I got through to find out we weren't even on the schedule (even though I made an appointment in person with the technician and the scheduler on the phone.) I set up a new appointment and left work early to be home. The technician came and was close to finishing the repair, then told me it would cost $658. The quote we were originally given was $168. When asked why the price difference the technician said "maybe he (the first technician) looked at last years price sheet." We were quoted one price and not told a different price until the work was almost complete. He finished the repair and said he couldn't do the spring check because the water could not be turned on for 24 hours so we would need to schedule ANOTHER appointment. While he was still there I asked for an estimate on a leak that was found last fall. In the fall this same company estimated it would cost approximately $700. The technician this time said it would cost approximately $150. How can the estimates be so different? We decided we were going to contact management about these concerns. I spent an entire day trying to get through to someone that could resolve the issues.. I talked to multiple people, often waiting on hold or calling back because no one called me back after stating they would. I was told no one remembered me calling and stating that they would call me back. The people I spoke with took very little accountability, if any, often making excuses. After ALL of this, their resolution was to charge approximately $120 for a valve. Hard to understand how you can charge me for a part they don't make anymore. I reminded them our sprinklers still have not been set up. The supervisor said that the technicians notes from the first day say it was completed. That is impossible because the water was turned off and a repair needed to be done before the sprinklers could be set up. To say we are disappointed with this company is an understatement. Every level of this company from scheduling, technicians, and management needs major improvement. There has been dishonesty, unprofessionalism, and no accountability has been taken on their end. A simple "hey, I'm sorry this all happened. We will figure this out on our end and get your system up and running" would have been a decent way to handle this, at the least. I talked to multiple people, but the sprinkler manager never returned my call even after I was told he would call me. It took until June and many many phone calls to get a A+ employee to come out and look. and then until the end of July for them to approve the repair. Used them for over 7 years. More recently each year they would find issues with my sprinklers and have to replace heads that were fine when shutting it down. My lawn continued to have excessive weeds and bare spots. I finally called to talk to someone after they shut my sprinklers down , then came a week later and aerated the lawn I called to ask why they did it in this order , because I couldn't then overseed for fall. No one ever responded so I called to cancel. They did nothing to keep a long time customer. BEWARE!!! I hired A+ Lawn Mowing for fall yard clean-up after contacting several of their competitors. They assured me that they would complete the job prior to our Township's street pick-up date. They asked for 100% payment of $275.65 prior to arrival, which I did plus I added a generous tip. After rescheduling us three times, they finally sent one person to our property with a small leaf blower, no gas, no rake, no other tools other than his cell phone which he was on frequently calling for help (he said). In 5.5 hours of cell phone use they only blew one pile of leaves on the side of our house and never got a single leaf to the street. They sent me an email stating they would require another $150 plus $70 per bag for removal. With the street pick-up now the next day, I had no choice but to take off work to complete the job, of which I was able to do my entire yard in 5 hours with a rake and tarp. Afterwards I asked for a refund, since the 5.5 hours they worked at $30/man hour comes to $165, and I clearly overpaid for their incomplete service. I asked for the balance in return of $155.65 which included the tip. They took days to respond and refused the refund request after several back-and-forth emails. They clearly misquoted and underestimated the job from the beginning. Their assurance on timing was a false claim. Their professionalism through the emails was abhorrent. I essentially paid $320.65 for one pile of leaves that I had to trudge to the street. As a businessperson myself, I understand that things happen. But the key word is owner(ship), and in this case A+ Lawn Mowing does not own their mistakes and certainly does not demonstrate pride in their work, nor do they put the customer first. I had been with American Lawn Care for over ten years and never had any issues. They retired and sold their business to APlus so I transferred over. I didn't get the first application until almost May but gave them the benefit of the doubt. Second application was this past Wednesday, late again. They were to call prior so I could have the dogs in, this was part of the agreement. They didn't call, unlocked the gate and let themselves in, said it was an accepted procedure of their technicians. Luckily the dogs weren't out! I am looking at my lawn and wondering what has happened. I have huge lines all over the yard where their equipment wheels had been and the grass is dead. Our lawn has never looked worse than it does now. We have used A+ for 2 years and have had major weed issues and may bare spots. They completely missed treating an entire area of our lawn even after I called to let them know that the side grass was our lawn. When they came to aerate our yard they droved their muddy aeration machine over our outdoor rug and ruined it. They did not get prior approval for a treatment they provided, they just did it and billed me for it. They are unprofessional and dishonest in their pricing. read more

We live in Urbandale. We had maintenance contract with A+. After aerating several months back, A+ personnel damaged our iron fence gate. The management at A+ assured us they would pay for damage. We had damage repaired promptly and professionally by Central Fence, they in turn sent invoice to A+. It is now December. After numerous phone calls to A+ and being lied to, we paid Central Fence for the repair. A+ then had the gall to invoice us on our account and be paid for another maintenance service. Do not sign a contract with this company or give them a deposit. We signed a contract with them during the winter months and we're told that we would have an irrigation system and lighting installed at the very beginning of the spring season. In June after weeks of being told we were two weeks away from installation we finally requested that they cancel our job and return our deposit as we were moving on to another company. They refused to return our $500 deposit and said that the contract has a 25% cancellation fee if you don't cancel within seven days. How would anyone know that they weren't going to show up and do the job in January when they give their deposit?! Ridiculous company that apparently makes money off of signing contracts that they never intend to fulfill. By May 10, we had to hire someone else, grass and weeds grow fast in Iowa! We went through Lawnstarter, great customer service, to mow the lawn only. We were still hoping A+ who had our money would either return it, so we can hire someone else, or come out here and get the job done, simple and easy, no hard feelings. Well, neither has happened. Mark , from A+, had blatantly lied to me, promised to be here and then texted due to inclement weather.......another person was supposed to get back to me...and then no communication at all........ Well, we are at May 23, 2021, the lawn looks like crap, A+ still sucks, and my daughter, 28 yrs. old is a widow, with a 5 year old, a 2 year old, and 14 weeks pregnant, which Mark was told this, and he still took advantage of the situation. Am I bitter, yes I am? We have asked our Credit Union to intervene to possibly get a refund through their means, to this day A+ has not responded to their request either. I told A+ I will post on every next door app in the area, I will post on every social media platform, I will file a complaint with the BBB, and I will get a permit from the city, stand out on Hickman and picket with a sign. Evidently they still don't care. Well, I do, we really have had enough served on our plates, and A+, with their lack of morals, and unfriendly business standards will get the brunt of my bitterness. read more

Be Careful! When contracting with A+, make very sure that the scope of the work you are requesting is put into writing and that all expectations of said work are clearly spelled out and agreed upon. My elderly mother contracted with A+ to remove a flower bed that contained deeply rooted lilies that were planted decades ago. The work order simply read "Backyard Planting Bed Removal". The crew merely scraped off the top layer of soil, replaced that soil, planted grass and covered with straw and mesh. Almost immediately, the deeply rooted lily's re-emerged and began to take over the area. A+ refused to take responsibility for the incomplete work under the rubric that they could not be held responsible for the re-emergence of a perennial. A perennial that is that they were contracted to remove. To add insult to injury, many calls were placed to A+ with no response. Eventually, after pictures of the aggressive re-emergence of the lilies were emailed, A+ responded that they would be happy to quote the use of Round-Up at additional cost to the incomplete project. A+ maintained that to perform the job adequately, they would have needed to excavate more deeply at a greater cost. So, why did they not do just that? That statement in itself constitutes an admission of the shoddy, incomplete work that was performed. An accurate proposal and statement of work would have allowed my mother to assess whether or not the cost was worth the potential result. The vague statement of "Backyard Planting Bed Removal" did not allow her that opportunity. All the while, A+ was demanding payment for an incomplete job. Eventually, the family advised our mother to pay for the work that was done so as to avoid being sent to collection. It was made clear to A+ that their services would not longer be used to complete the project, nor would their lawn treatment services be used as well. The marginal quality of the lawn services is a story for another day. read more

We hired A+ Lawn Service to do our weed and feed this summer and to handle our irrigation service. The good news is that we had a lot of weeds. The bad news is that they were very unresponsive in taking care of our irrigation system. We paid to have the winterize the irrigation system in October. But when mowing in October, I noticed the covers were left off our the in-ground valve boxes. It caused me to investigate further - did they fully drain our irrigation system. I found that they had missed at least part of it (our back yard system to the garden) - maybe more. It took only three phone calls over a 30 day period to get them to call back. And, after agreeing to re-visit our home, they called today to say it is now too cold to return until later in the week when it is warmer. I asked whether or not they would be responsible for the freeze up of our irrigation system? Their irrigation manger, Ethan, reluctantly agreed that they would be responsible and I pressed him to send an email to that effect. He agreed to send it right away. But, It has been a day, and theri is no sign of any follow up by the A+Landscape team. It is going to be 17-19 degrees the next 3 nights in Iowa and I have done my best to try to drain it down myself. It is nice to know that when you hire a company like A+Landscaping that they are not going to be responsible for following up on their promises. A+Landscaping would be a good company to avoid when you have lawn related services you want to do at your home or business. They have lots of excuses and fall short on performance. read more

They are mowing or doing something to my neighbor's lawn right now. The sound, with all house windows shut is insanely loud. I have ear plugs in right now and it's still super loud. The poor kid trying to work the mower or whatever it is can barely push it and it is just SPEWING thick dark smoke. The kid is trying to lean way over each time it belches it out. I don't know if they are not taking care of the equipment, if Iowa just has really lax laws on air pollution, or both. But regardless, I put it on A+ to try to be more environmentally conscious and not give make their employees sick by sending them using equipment that does this and to be thoughtful of the noise disturbances they are causing. read more

Wanted to share the experience of my first season with A+ Lawn and Landscape. The summary is that they broke my brand-new planter box on their first visit this spring and seven months later it's still not resolved. 1) They break the planter and say nothing to me. Accidents happen, maybe they didn't know they hit it, and I reach out to A+ for resolution. They offer to buy a replacement and we're all good. 2) Then months go by and they still haven't provided the replacement. They change their offer to some free lawn applications. Not what I wanted, but it's too late in the season for my planter box, so I agree. 3) First free service comes, they charge me. Second free service comes, they charge me. To actually get those credits applied to my account for these first two applications took about dozen emails back and forth. 4) Then they actually charged my card on file for the "free services" and it took me multiple emails and weeks to get the money back. 5) Third free service arrives and it's about 5 months into this situation. Not only did they fail to waive it as promised - they start harassing me with letters and texts about non-payment. 6) I reach out through the website to escalate my issue. No response. 7) I reach out again advising that I am contacting the BBB and other consumer bureaus and they suddenly respond. I again ask for an explanation and it's been 7 days without response. To be fair, the people who have actually came to my house and performed services have been kind and courteous. But it has taken 7 months of back and forth and constant error on their part to resolve a matter of less than $200. That is in spite of 30 plus emails, numerous points of outreach through the website, and requests for someone to contact me and explain what's going on. For those keeping score - in our first year together A+ broke my property, failed to deliver their resolution, then failed to deliver their alternative resolution repeatedly, and I still can't get an explanation. Today I cancelled my contract and filed multiple complaints with consumer protection bureaus. We've had to call twice to have them come out and give us our second treatment and we are still waiting. The second call showed they had no record of the first.
