Because the Holiday Cocktail Party that my company was planning was for over 1000 people we decided that it would be best to hire an Event Planner to execute our vision and plan. When we were referred to Young, I took a look at her Yelp reviews and was so excited to see and read about all of the personal touches and unique designs that she brought to her events. However, when we did a walk-through of our space and sat down to talk with Young, her team, and her vendor, Fine Linen Creations (http://www.yelp.com/biz/fine-linen-creations-san-jose-2), I began to become a bit concerned. Young and her vendor kept pushing fresh cut bouquets and an exorbitant amount of draping. We were very very very clear on a multitude of occasions that we did NOT WANT all fresh cut flowers at $75/piece. We found them to be a waste of money as well as just a waste in general because they are disposable. We discussed that since we would have over 60 tables, that we should do flowers on some tables and on the other tables do some Poinsettias, festive branches, ornaments, etc. These items would add uniqueness as well as extreme cost savings, to which one of her assistants rolled her eyes at me. We expressed extreme concern that we did not want to spend our budget on a ton of draping and chair covers and we were looking for a very fun festive Holiday feel and that we did not want it to be stuffy, formal, or wedding-like. We offered up a lot of specific ideas on decor, layout, etc. We clarified that we wanted to have decor in the foyer as well as on the patio, which had views that were absolutely gorgeous. We signed off on the floor-plans and details prior to our event. But then, on the night of our party, we show up and walk in to a Foyer without the decor we discussed and look out on to a patio with no decorations (both wasted opportunities). As I walked through the floor to ceiling draping I entered a room with 60+ tables all adorned with huge floral bouquets and RED ROSE PETALS sprinkled around them, Pretty...FOR A WEDDING OR A PROM! The layout was not as we had agreed upon nor did they execute the ideas that we were very specific about. The venue removed our food 1 1/2 hours after our event started which left everyone 3 more hours of a party where they were drinking with no food available. If this was the venue's decision, it should have been addressed immediately by Young and her Team. We were the clients, paying her a ton of money, and our needs and wishes were, for the most part, ignored.

She was timely, responsible, and extremely proactive. She spent all morning making sure everything was perfect. When I tell you I didn't have to life a finger, I mean it. Nicole did absolutely everything from managing the floral design when the florist showed up, setting up her entire dessert table, managing the wait staff, recruiting venue staff, chatting with guests, getting all our vendors their dinner plates, getting US our dinner plates. All of the details you wouldn't think of, she was already 10 steps ahead. My entire family was floored at how incredible this one woman team was. Nicole would take control of situations as they'd come up day of and would come check in with me to confirm what her suggestions were worked for me. She helped us with our marriage contract too which easily could have been overlooked. I cannot say enough good things. I didn't even see our venue space day of until I walked down the aisle and had our grand entrance. The room took my breath away, she did the best job making a space reflect all the elements I had told her I wanted. She was tabling and provided very straight forward costs on her services which I liked. I love Julia! Easy going personality and will "keep it real" with you in a professional way. Things I really loved about Julia: 1. She's best when you meet in person and takes the time to talk through everything (she spent a good 2 hours sitting down with us and never seemed like she was in a hurry to leave). The fiance and I were in our dining room sitting with her talking through the entire event and she came up with some GREAT stuff that we would NEVER have thought of i.e. renting a dance floor in the grass area during our reception so it'd be easier for us to do our first dance (and the price wasn't that bad!!) and the wine barrel bar. 2. She's very connected and can ping her network for answers or other ideas 3. I believe we were her #5 wedding, and she was able bring up logistical stuff that we didnt think of i.e. buffering some time to eat while we changed outfits (I'm Vietnamese so I had to do 3 outfit changes!) 4. Just REALLY loved how she can problem solve logistical stuff on the fly i.e. our wedding ceremony was outdoors and the walkway to the outdoor gazebo left me as a bride exposed and took away the "ahh!" because from the dressing room to the outdoor area was at least 500 ft). She came up with a great idea to have the bridal party, once they walked out, to line up to be like a human fence, so that I could walk behind them and make a more BIG reveal. I was so thrilled with this! 5. She SAVED my wedding. Apparently my cake lady took my dvd slideshow by accident, and about an hour before showing the video, she and the wedding coordinator were trying to figure out where it went. She was smart enough to figure out it was the cake lady (why of all people would she take it?!). Had my MoH call her (speaking in Viet) to explain that she probably took it and they said "Oops! Sorry." Brought it to the venue in the nick of time. I didn't even know this til the next day. Areas for improvement: 1. Responsiveness. I didn't figure out that she was most responsive via text than email. I would say I figured it out early on enough to make it work, although it would have been nice she prefaced one route of communication was better than the other. Some of the stuff we had to correspond via email (i.e. day of itinerary), so sometimes I'd have to ping her via phone if she got it, but 100% anytime I ping'd her on her cell, she responded ASAP. 2. Being aware of cultural nuances. This isn't by any means Julia's fault, but Asian people don't like to sit in the first row for some Godly reason, and so when you see the ceremony photos, it looks like I didn't have anyone at my wedding even though there were close to 150 people!! I think I was her first Asian wedding, so would have been good to make a final check to see if the first few rows were filled (and directing family to sit there so they don't feel obliged; we had them have boutineres so it's easy to distinguish who was whom). Overall, I had a really good experience working with Julia. She was at her best when we met in person and I LOVED her creative and logistical ideas. They really saved some of our wedding plans :). And I sent her pictures of how I wanted all the decorations during the reception and ceremony to look, and she executed them TO THE T!! I was really really happy about that. I was waiting for something to go wrong, some lag time to happen, a communication hiccup between vendors, but it was flawless and everyone commented on how organized and smooth the wedding went. Originally, being somewhat type A and over-organized, I tried to convince my fiance that we could handle the planning to save some money. I thought we would only have to create an itinerary and divvy out some responsibilities to family and friends. WOW, was I off my rocker!!! I cannot imagine trying to organize and facilitate the wedding day (let alone organizing the vendors prior to the wedding). Seriously, you NEED a wedding planner and Aileen and Liz are AMAZING! I would pay 5x what their already competitive rate is. Do yourself a favor and at least set up a meeting with Prestigious Planning. You'll thank yourself later.

I didn't even have to lift a hand. She assisted with loading/unloading our wedding items and getting them to the venue for both our wedding rehearsal & wedding. She was fabulous in running our rehearsal. Although our wedding was in SF and some of the wedding party got stuck in traffic she had a calming aspect to her. We had no reservations and did not worry about getting through our rehearsal. She ran our rehearsal without a hitch and made sure we went through everything I wanted to. On the wedding day, she was there early with her team helping set up and making sure everything was going smoothly. She kept us all on schedule throughout the whole day of the wedding. Her and her assistance helped with everything including setting up of our escort cards, floral arrangements, ceremony site & everything at the reception. She made sure everything flowed smoothly and took care of everything. My bridesmaids, family and I enjoyed our wedding day. Aileen & her team did not leave until everything was put away and she kept me in the loop with everything. We are so glad we found her.
