A Hidden Haven is a collection of five quaint cottage homes in Port Angeles, each with a different theme. Our family of four stayed at the "Whimsical Bear" cottage for four nights while venturing through the Olympic National Park and it was a wonderful home away from home. It was so cozy, fully furnished with everything we could need and had cute bear décor in each room. KITCHEN: It came stocked with all the dishes, utensils and cookware that we could possibly need. Other than whipping up some light breakfasts, we actually didn't cook much. The cabinet had some random cans of food and spices. The owners also kindly left a basket of complimentary snacks on the counter and a few sodas and juices in the fridge. BATHROOM: One bathroom to share among four of us was a little tough, but we made it work! There was one shower and a whirlpool tub. Unfortunately, there was no separation between the toilet & sink and the rest of the bathroom, so really only one person could use it at a time. BEDROOM: The single king bed was soft and comfortable, but the room got pretty hot at night. It had a small closet and a dresser for storage. The only way to enter the bathroom is through the bedroom, so this could be disruptive for lighter sleepers. LIVING SPACE: The sofa folded out into a bed which I actually preferred sleeping in. There was a fireplace and satellite TV. We had a tough time figuring out the TV since there were two different remotes. We called the owners for instructions which they graciously provided, but it would have been helpful if they left some directions in the cottage for reference. Other notes: + You cannot wear shoes in the house, so they had a basket with pairs of socks for each person near the door. The socks were really thick and too hot for the summer, so I just wore my own. I would have preferred either thinner, breathable socks or some cheap slippers. + After we added some breakfast items, vegetables and fruit into the fridge, it took several hours to cool down below 40 degrees F. According to the owners, this is normal. + If you walk all the way down the road, you'll find the owners' home and lovely garden. We met Chris and he spoke with us for a few minutes, let us throw some food to the fish in the pond and also gave us slices of bread to feed their deer. We didn't see any deer at first, but after calling out to them ("Helloooo deer! Deer!"), they came running out. So cute and gentle! Our stay at A Hidden Haven was really a special one. I had a three-night stay at the property. On my third night, I switched from my previous cottage (Forest Romance Cottage) to another cottage (Morning Dove Cottage). I was charged additionally for the night. I went out for touring the Olympics area during the daytime with all doors of the cottage closed. When I returned to the property at midnight, I experienced three issues in the cottage. 1. The bedroom walls was full of small flying bugs. The wall had about 50-100 bugs. There were another 30 bugs sitting inside the lamps. It took me a while to wipe them out and clean them up. 2. The hot water was gone when I was sitting inside the tub and taking a bath. I wasn't able to take a shower. 3. At early morning (3am), there was a loud water dripping noise for about an hour. I was waken up and could not fall asleep anymore. The next morning I called the host about the issues. I asked whether the host can give me some refund for the issues. The host said no and there is nothing she could offer me for the bad experience. I said if anything else she can help me to have a better experience. She said no. She said that she doesn't think I'm lying. Also adding that if I wasn't able to afford this, I should find a cheaper place. It made me feel that I'm the troublemaker. The host said over the previous 100 guest stays there was not even a single issue reported in this cottage. She also said why I did not contact them last night when I had the issue. I thought they were seniors and should be asleep already, so I did a courtesy not to interrupt them, which unfortunately became a reason of denial. Feeling shocked and disappointed, the only thing I could do is to post my bad experience on AirBnb website and TripAdvisor website. Shortly, I got public reply from the owner stating that all my claims were false. The host said I did not close the door while I was away. But it took me 5 minutes to open the locked door using the key that night, because the door lock was lacking lubricant. The host said I did not allow them to check the property during the call, but I never stated this. Seeing the attacks, I was further hurt and disappointed. Their response ruined my trip to the Olympics peninsula. Upon my return to home, I realized I left my ultraviolet light lamp in the cottage. I was a bit hesitant but I eventually called the host about this. The host said they did have my UV lamp and they could mail it to me with a charged postage. When I asked whether I could pick it up in another trip. The host said she needed to check with her husband. After another two days, I got a phone call from the owner. The owner asked me to remove my review from the websites because my reviews were unreasonable and inaccurate. In return, the host would mail the UV lamp to me with a charged postage fee. I felt further disappointed and shocked to hear that. First of all, my review reflected what happened - there is no false accusation. Secondly, the fact that I left my personal item in the property has nothing to do with my previous bad experience and my previous review. I feel further disappointed to see that the owner tried to mix these two separate things and to ask for a removal of the review in exchange for the return of a personal item of mine. As a traveller, I have the rights to report the actual bad service regardless of the property's previous service level. To me, this would help the property identify areas of improvement and become more successful going forward. The host's defensive attitude and denial of problems have made me mentally stressed in a trip that was supposed to be relaxing. Just an update: the owner returned my UV lamp after my complaint. We spent a great 3 days at the "Morning Dove" (1 Bdr) cottage, an incredibly romantic little getaway spot. The cottages are nestled deep in the woods, with a ton of privacy. Ours was nicely appointed, although the decor was a tad over the top -- it sort of felt like being sucked into an overheated valentines day card, with all the flowers and tchotchkes and whatnot everywhere. The experience is a little more akin to a cabin rental than a B&B -- they do offer breakfast, but it's limited and at a "we don't really want to serve you breakfast" price. Maid service is upon request.. We had a great time overall, and the proprietor was friendly and helpful. Only a few things keep this from being a 5-star review: 1. The maid service, when we did request it, was really lousy. I am far from a neat freak, believe me. But I think when a maid comes to clean you can reasonably expect not to find your spilled toothpaste from that morning still all over the counter. 2. The bed was really soft. Not in an "ah nice" sort of way, but in an "ooh my poor back" sort of way. Like sleeping 3 nights in a hammock. 3. The TV was a relic from the 90s. One of those big old-school things. Not that you come there to watch TV, but it is a sort of place you might spent some time hanging out, so it would be nice if (especially for the price) they updated the amenities. Along these lines, the wireless also didn't work -- I feel a tad churlish complaining about it, as the proprietor went out of his way to try to fix it and was very apologetic, but it was annoying. My girlfriend and I found this quiet cottage on a 2 day stay in the Olympic Rainforest this July. It truly is hidden and private and we were very happy with the amenities like a deck that bordered the beautiful property and a spa tub in the unit. We are out both nights to eat but there was a small grill outside had we opted to cook ourselves. The unit was very clean as they have a no shoes policy. Upon check in we had the opportunity to meet a troop of friendly fallow deer that the owner has housed near the property along with reindeer that adds a charming touch. Overall highly recommended if you are looking for a quiet romantic spot close to the rainforest. read more

This was such an amazing place to stay! 20 acres of property, our own small house, immaculate, full kitchen, living room, bedroom, utility room (washer/dryer), beautiful porch and grill and comfy chairs! This B & B is about 10 minutes west of PA. It is close enough to town and Hurricane Ridge, yet far enough away from everything else, to make this an ideal spot to stay. The property has about seven small cottages and one main building where you can stop in and get sodas and DVDs. Our private cottage was about 800 square feet and had the feel of our own small home. Comfortable bed, full kitchen, cozy living room - it was a perfect place to relax. I wish the owners would upgrade their TVs, in the event you need some downtime and want to watch a movie or television. Also, the breakfast arrangement is odd - for a "Bed and Breakfast Inn," they do not serve breakfast! Instead, you can add a light, continental breakfast for $30 a night. Fun fact: they have fallow deer and a reindeer on the property, and you can feed them! Bottom line: a great place to stay, but there is room for improvement. read more

We heard of this through a recommendation from a friend. I wasn't expecting too much, since the place was pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I was only hoping there were clean sheets. We were VERY surprised at how nice the cottage was. It was a 1 bedroom house. I was expecting a small bathroom, a bed, and a small area for a couch. This had a full kitchen, a dining area, a patio with a small grill, and a very large bathroom with a huge jetted tub. Everything was CLEAN. The place was spotless. The decorations were nice as well. You could tell the owners spent time on the cottage, and didn't decorate it like a generic hotel. There was definitely a personal touch. The service was great as well. We arrived late, and after normal check in hours. There was a problem with our key, in that it wasn't in the pick up box. We called them up, and within 2 minutes they came out to help us. They felt terrible there was a snafu. They were very friendly and polite. I would definitely come back here. It had a great location, and was easy to get to the Olympic National Park attractions. It was very secluded, so you really felt like you had your own place in the woods. The price was reasonable, considering we had 4 people staying there. My only criticism was our pull out couch. It was TERRIBLE. The mattress needed to be replaced, since it was clear the springs were shot. We have a pull out couch with the same mattress at our home, and theirs was definitely past its due. read more

Stayed at the Whimsical Bear. This should get five stars just for the name. Super cozy and homey. The fireplace is a great amenity. It heats the house quite nicely, if you like to sleep in a bit cooler temperature I suggest turning the fireplace off long before bed. Would stay here again. read more

We've stayed here a few times and it's a great homebase for excursions to Cape Flattery, Hurricane Ridge, Lake Ozette and more. The owner is very nice and has spotted deer and a reindeer on the property who he let my son feed as well as a fish pond with fish food. We are currently staying at the sweetheart cottage here at hidden haven. What a treat!!! It's our second stay and it's just as wonderful as the first time. The cottages are super clean and equipped with EVERYTHING you could possibly need! Just like a little home away from home. There are even little snacks and drinks for FREE in the fridge/ kitchen. Where can you find this kind of thoughtfulness and compassion nowadays? The surroundings are beautiful: you can go for a little walk right here on the grounds, feed the rein/deer, watch he the turtles and kois, sit by the ponds, bbq on your back porch or venture out to lake crescent, hike in the national park, visit the market in Port Angeles-the list is endless. Chris and Jodi are so nice and helpful and are perfect hosts that take pride in their cabins and definitely show their love to detail. When my husband and I moved to Port Angeles without even visiting, we had no choice but to rent a cottage for two weeks. The owners reply your email quickly and transaction was easy. We moved in February, but we could tell how much the owners live the property. The grounds are kept very well and the property is tucked away from the road. You truly feel secluded in the woods which was so enjoyable. The owners built all the cabins themselves and they did am amazing job. It has everything you need and more. It's a cute little(but very spacious) one bedroom house and we truly felt at home. read more

Nice enough place, but the hospitality leaves a lot to be desired. Located in a heavily wooded area, most of the cabins are dark and dreary most of the day, with only one or two in sunny spots but they were unavailable when we inquired. Of the owner's Chris was nice, a very personable fellow who could go on and one about the property, but he had little to do with the business end and was more of a grounds keeper. Jodi attempted to provide the customer service, but is woefully lacking in social skills, she was not a pleasant person to deal with. The check-in was a long and arduous process, with her going over all the rules and regulations. And check-out equally so with a long room inspection before we were allowed to depart. We were also quite disappointed with the lack of a provided Breakfast, something we are accustomed to when staying at a Bed and Breakfast. read more

My husband booked a cottage for our wedding night. It is a lovely place, impressive surroundings. However, there was no hot water for a shower or a bath. That put a big damper on things for us. When we told them about it, no discount(s) were offered. For 300-400 bucks a night, we expected more. So, we are not likely to return. read more
