Our interaction with Brent and his mom (Miss Mary) were great, and I will say, I think it was an extra treat to experience the hospitality of Miss Mary!! Clearly, Brent didn't fall far from the tree (no pun intended)! We booked the 'Rustic Cabin Suite' which was their lowest price room available at the time, but it was well furnished, comfortable, quiet, and perfect for a place to stay for two. It was quiet, peaceful, and tranquil. Don't forget to take advantage of the Carin winery next door, and I hear (we missed out) the lodge offers an add on steak dinner (plan in advance) that sounds divine, and in that environment, will be on our list for our next visit! The lodge itself is well-appointed with a beautiful seating/gathering/eating area downstairs. Breakfast was great with a menu of French toast and apple bake, sausage, fresh fruit, orange juice and some of the best flavored coffee I've had in a LONG time (bourbon infused pecan). Beautiful grounds, beautiful people (Brent, Miss Mary, and fellow guests) and you can't go wrong with a stay at the beautiful Bent Tree Lodge and Vineyard!!

It's the West Ridge Falls Access Trail. The trailhead parking area is woefully small, so you may not get a parking spot if you arrive during a busy time. Another advantage of the walking trial is going by an old crashed car from Prohibition on the side of the hill. There's a photo in the visitor's center if you miss it. It's cool to see the beginning of the Appalachian trail behind the visitor's center. There's a nice photo spot with a stone arch. We didn't stay at the lodge but went there after our hike for the famous view. Unfortunately it was foggy that day. Still, it's a cool lodge with a large window in the lobby and seating outside to enjoy the glorious view. There's a kickass map of the Appalachian trail on the lobby wall. The staff in the gift shop were pleasant and helpful.

This time, some family members were joining us on our vacation (their first time in Blue Ridge!) and since they have a large motorhome, we thought it would be more convenient if we stayed nearby. Since the Blue Ridge Toccoa River KOA offers cabins as well as RV and tent camping sites, we booked one of the dog friendly cabins for our week-long stay. Having had mixed experiences renting cabins through the local rental agencies, I wasn't sure what to expect, but from the moment we walked into the office to check in and during our short drive across the park to the cabin, I started to think we would be quite happy with our choice. First, some info on the location itself: - opened in/around 2020, so fairly new - situated directly on the Toccoa River - RV, tent and cabin options with some RV sites being paved and some graveled - very pet friendly, with a dog park available to all dogs and some RV sites having their own small dog park - play areas for children, a pool, showers and laundry facilities on site - just a couple of miles from downtown Blue Ridge and about a mile from a grocery store The location is in pristine condition. Beautifully maintained, it still looks like it just opened yesterday. All the staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful and it's obvious that they take pride in their business and in providing excellent (and proactive) customer service. Here's a great example - during the middle of the week, we were in downtown Blue Ridge for lunch with our family and they got a call from the staff. It was a windy day and they had their canopy out at their RV. The staff noticed that, went to the RV to see if they were inside and, getting no answer, called them to alert them. Our family members, being long-time RVers, were quite impressed that the staff took that extra step. Fortunately, they have a canopy that's flexible so didn't need to rush back. The cabin we rented was on the river and afforded us a wonderful view. The cabins aren't large (think "tiny house") but ours was sparkling clean and had everything we could want. The staff had supplied kitchen towels, soap, sponge, paper towels, plates, cups and plastic utensils, along with a starter set of coffee. Since we're used to rental cabins, we always bring our own lates/cups/utensils and coffee, creamer, filters, etc. There were some basic pots and pans, a toaster, a microwave, full sized oven/stove and fridge. Two rocking chairs, a side table and very nice (and very clean!) Weber grill complete the front porch. As weather can vary wildly in the mountains during the spring, we used the heat AND the air settings on the two units in the cabin on different days. The units are wall mounted in the main bedroom and main living area and both worked well to keep us comfortable. This was a terrific first experience for us and we'll be back.

(We had to go through Atlanta to get there). We arrived at the gate on Thursday afternoon and we were greeted by Jim. He was so friendly and escorted us to our site. Once we were parked, he handed off our welcome packet and a fresh loaf of sourdough (baked by the owner's daughter... yum!) We had our dog, so on walks we would check out the amenities- beautiful clubhouse (with live music on Saturdays) tennis/pickleball courts, pool and the views are amazing. There's plenty to do in the area- wineries, restaurants, shopping. Even though they call themselves a "Motorcoach resort" there were a few pull behinds and we weren't asked about the age of our coach and there were some older coaches there but everyone was well maintained, so it didn't look junky. The sites are very large (we're 45' towing a jeep and there was enough room to pull in without disconnecting. Most sites are pull in, which was nice for privacy. Overall, a wonderful weekend. If you're in the area, check them out!

We loved cooking all of our meals over the fire pit. It does include a grate to balance on the rocks n cook food on. We brought some fireproof pans to cook more stuff over our coals. We made gourmet meals every time. We took advantage of the waterfall 5 minutes up the road n caught some trout to bring back to camp n cook over the fire! At night, we slept great in our king-size bed and A/C. This is definitely our new camping spot!
