I and the Gordon Setters' co-owner have been attending Nancy Creal's Movin' On Up obedience…read moretraining for several classes and started dog therapy work under her program. We have never had such an excellent trainer! Not only are all the basic obedience commands taught, but activities that include some agility and some rally are included to make the class fun for both the dogs and the humans! The approach is totally positive and the trainer is well-skilled at working with all breeds of all sizes. She is sensitive to individual needs and goals, such as having conformation dogs sit upon command (verbally and/or by gesture) but not automatically. She stresses to work at your dog's level, which fosters bonding with and understanding your dog. She individualizes her approach to fit the dog and the owner and does not use a 'one size fits all' technique. Nancy understands the idea that rewards can be treats, but other things (such as praise, tone of voice, petting, toys) can work as rewards to reinforce desired behaviors as well. Class time flies by and all you see and hear are wagging tails, laughter, applause, and praise. The human students support each other, praising others' dogs (as by calling out "Nice job" or "Well done"), not just their own. It makes for a very pleasurable environment and experience, which is very effective. Nancy knows the AKC rules for obedience and rally titles so, for those who do want to compete, that training is available and given. In short, there's something for everyone! No matter what age, no matter how much training, I highly recommend you bring your dog to the Movin' On Up classes--it's more than just 'obedience training'--it's a fun activity to enjoy with your dog. So put your paws down and 'move on up.' -- Marcia Perry (and her "Gordon Gals" Breezy and Rosie)

As I've moved around Northern California, I've been able to continue classes with Georgeanne. I've…read moretaken 4 dogs through her class starting at Santa Clara Dog Training Club. Georgeanne was one of my first instructors, and waaaay back then, many of the instructors were still using force training like pushing dogs into downs and sits. I can get any 8 week old puppy into a sit in 2 seconds so on earth would you ever need to push an adult dog into a down? Georgeanne was before her time, using praise and allowed her students to bring treats to reward the dogs-but, she's not a cookie pusher trainer. I learned a lot from Georgeanne and was able to show my dog in obedience which in a million years I never thought I would, or could because my dog didn't like being close to other dogs. After her classes, my dog learned to ignore other dogs and pay attention to me 100% of the time. A lot of trainers are set in their ways, and if you don't do it their way, then they don't like you as a student. I've quit many classes because of that. Georgeanne is different. She's sweet, patient, and never judges you. She'll also be honest with you. My last dog was pretty wild, and wasn't ready to go off leash for heeling. Georgeanne will tell you when is the right time for your dog to go off leash heeling and recalls. Nothing worse than having a loose dog disrupting the entire class. Georgeanne is talented trainer and also a good people person.

We highly recommend Georganne . While my training experience was some time ago, it has proven to…read morebe the best decision I made concerning our Dobie. It is truly a pleasure to have a dog so well behaved. Her expertise not only as a trainer but judge has been most valuable . He earned a CGC and TDI CERT.
