Stacey has taught me so much of what I know about diet and exercise. I spent so many years as a…read moreperson that felt stuck in a body that NEEDED to be exercised and NEEDED to be restricted to a certain diet in order for it to work and look the way I wanted it to. It made every workout and every meal into a high stakes situation, and I found myself yoyoing between a "nice" and a "gross" body, and beating myself up over every food and exercise-related decision I made. I couldn't make any of my strategies stick, because they ultimately placed too much stress and too much of a burden on myself to be sustainable. I started to work with Stacey with this mindset. Over time, she taught me how to make fitness and healthy eating part of my routine without letting it take over every fiber of my being and also how to have a healthier mindset when it comes to my body. On top of this healthier mindset and approach, I was able to achieve the progress and results I wanted! Her "progress not perfection" approach has changed how I approach my weight, exercise, and diet. One of the biggest things that I've gained through my time with Stacey is the ability to accept that not every bit of this fitness/healthy eating journey will be perfect, but you can always find meaningful signs of progress to keep you feeling strong. On top of all of this, she is an amazing person and trainer. She is so dedicated to her clients and works so hard to help us achieve our goals in a healthy way, and never makes you feel bad about your real life getting in the way. She is always understanding, but blunt and honest about what you need to do to get where you want to be and will always tell you the truth. She makes sure you not only focus on your workouts, but also that you focus on good recovery. Finally, you'll never leave one of her workouts (whether in the small group or larger class setting) wanting more. I can confidently say that working with Stacey is the best thing I've ever done as part of this huge, endless journey that is fitness, bar none.

I knew I hit rock bottom when I didn't go home for Christmas that year and spent it alone. I felt so guilty for being "depressed". I had a bunch of highs and low in 2015 but have been able to finally accept help personally & professionally. I came to Stacey as I was binge eating during my depression and focused on the 15lbs I had gained. My relationship with Stacey isn't about fitness really, it's about being able to be myself and not having to put on a mask. I was always timid about being me, but she has inspired me to be proud of who I am. I am so very thankful to have you in my life. You really mentally & physically helped me gain my life back!

OK, I get it that Zumba is all about making workouts fun and bringing the joys of dance and music…read moreto everyone, but I can honestly say, after having tried most of the Zumba classes in the Boston area, that I cannot stand when a class is taught by an instructor who has less dance skills, rythym, and coordination than a bobble head on the dashboard of a pick up truck. This is where Jackie comes in, an accomplished dancer and fitness professional. The Zumba classes at Bodyfit just get better and better. Jackie incorporates bollywood, various latin dances, hip hop, swing, and other dance styles to keep things interesting. I don't get bored (this is a feat in itself for me) and I really like that Jackie cycles high intensity songs interspersed with low intensity to keep that metabolism going. I have learned so much about dance, it never feels like a workout, and it is super affordable.

One that I took at my gym was entertaining in that I've never seen anyone do Latin dance moves with a bored expression on their face. Jackie is not playing around. The moves are fast, she will seek you out if you are totally lost, and she is always enjoying herself. After trying one class for free (go to her website and print out a pass) I decided to pay the monthly fee ($59). Unlike some places she doesn't put rigid restrictions on passes. I'm going to spend the month taking each of her classes and figuring out which ones I want to continue. I find her Zumba class very challenging, but I also really liked her kickboxing class.

What an incredible boxing studio! I joined my friend for her birthday and was instantly hooked…read more Colleen, the club owner, is one of the kindest sweetest people you will ever meet. She is a great instructor, always tweaking the formats to improve our workouts and eliciting feedback from members to ensure we are getting the most out of each class. She knows everyone by name and it truly feels like a community. I have taken both the boxing HIIT class and strength and conditioning class. Boxing HIIT encompasses circuits including boxing combos on the bag, alternating with HIIT (eg burpees, jump squats, jumping jacks, etc), with rounds of dumbbell work and abs mixed in. It is truly a full body workout. I took my boyfriend to a class and he was absolutely drenched in sweat by the end. Strength and conditioning is more of a traditional circuit format with alternating exercises focused on strengthening your arms, legs, back, and core. They also have boxing technique classes, youth boxing, and kickboxing classes throughout the week, and now sparring on Sunday. They just introduced women's only kickboxing class on Saturday morning which I am super excited to try out! Overall such a great addition to the JP community and one of my fav local businesses.

I've been with Eric for almost two years now, and still go weekly!…read more For me, it all comes down to this: Every time I workout with Eric, I feel better and my body moves better. His style is somewhere between physical therapy and master personal training. He evaluates what's working well for your body, and what's not, and then builds a program. For example, he took a video of me doing a simple squat. Don'cha know my left knee was splaying WAAAYY out to the left, like a dog chasing a squirrel? I never noticed because I'm too busy trying not to fall the F over! So, we did some exercises for my hips and butt, and voila, the knee is at least sorta staying in line. And, he gave me homework, to keep improving. :) If you're a "desk jockey" and/or spend a lot of time sitting, like me, you should definitely check out Eric. If you want to build muscle, improve flexibility, or just get a great workout, he's your man. And, yeah, I still have a little crush on him ;) Oh, and be sure to look carefully below for the "Filtered" reviews, above "About this Business." He's got a ton more that are hidden for gawd knows what reason...

I'm by no means a fitness guru. I've found that when I go at it alone at a gym I basically repeat…read morethe same basic routine and don't really benefit from it. Personal training is definitely an investment but for me it's the only way I feel I really benefit from working out. I was until recently a member of BSC on Newbury, simply because of location. I hadn't been there since July, went to cancel my membership and of course they need 30 days notice, so they were "nice" enough to prorate the remainder of my month and only charge me $51 instead of $59 and continue to tell me my membership is good through November something, even though I reiterated I haven't used their gym since July and won't be back so stop explaining this to me. I guess they need the 30 days notice so they can anticipate cleaning the machines just a little less since I am cancelling my valuable membership. Anyways, back to the good. Eric is great. I did the complimentary movement assessment and mini-workout with him. My previous personal trainer was female so I was somewhat anxious that I would be intimidated working out with a guy but Eric was awesome. Made me comfortable from the start. He has a decent sized studio right near Copley Square. I was able to listen to my own choice of music and work out in complete privacy, knowing that I could screw up, ask questions, etc as we went along and not have to worry about the meatheads judging me. It was great. We talked about my fitness goals, nutrition, etc. It was so great that I booked a 30 session package with him. I was able to reason with myself to make this investment because previously I paid my trainer the same amount that I would have paid if I did hour sessions with her instead of half hour sessions, plus I don't have to pay a monthly gym membership and get complete privacy. I'm really looking forward to working out three times a week with Eric and building some muscle while toning my core. Highly recommend checking it out!

Aaron, the trainer, is great and really understands how to motivate coach potatoes back into being active. From the first class I felt welcome by Aaron and also the rest of the group (who are comprised of adults of all ages in the same boat as me). I am writing this recommendation because I think if anyone reads this and they are in a similar position with trying to figure out how to lose weight or gain muscle mass they should try Dorchester Boot Camp. I am there practically every time there is a class and I am impressed that Aaron has maintained his interest in how each individual performs long after the first class. The format of the Dorchester Boot Camp program fit the bill perfectly with the varied daily program creating a well rounded workout. Aaron, the instructor, is great. He is warm, welcoming and supportive. He works with each student to ensure they are getting the maximum benefit and are working out correctly. By giving different options on how to complete an exercise, the difficulty can be customized to each member of the group depending on their fitness level without making things too difficult or easy for the class. The location is good and the early morning starts make sure that you are invigorated for the rest of the day. Will be back to keep up this new level of fitness. Cheers
