While visiting Northwest Arkansas, we stopped at BEK Restaurant Of NWA in Rogers, and this place…read moreturned out to be a great find! BEK is a family-owned restaurant serving a mix of Afghan, Turkish, and Uzbek cuisine, with all of their meats listed as 100% halal. They also share the space with the European Gourmet Market, so you can browse imported foods and specialty items while you're there. We ordered a nice variety to try: Beef Tikka Kebab, Lamb Döner Plate, Chicken Döner Plate, and Uzbek Manti. The döner plates were loaded with meat, rice, fries, fresh salad, pickled vegetables, and sauces, making them a seriously filling meal. The Uzbek Manti were steamed dumplings filled with seasoned beef, onion, and garlic and topped with creamy yogurt and a flavorful sauce. Everything we tried was delicious, but the Beef Tikka Kebab was definitely my favorite. The chunks of marinated beef were tender, juicy, nicely grilled, and packed with flavor. Served alongside warm bread, grilled vegetables, and fresh salad, it was simple but done extremely well. If you're traveling through Rogers or Northwest Arkansas and looking for halal food, BEK is absolutely worth checking out. Generous portions, authentic flavors, and several different cuisines to explore all in one place. Definitely a spot I'd return to!

I don't shop here very often as it is inconvenient for me, but I will come here for select items…read more I go here for the roasts. You can buy a 12-13 pound roast and then cut it up into smaller pieces. This works well for those who want to buy in bulk and makes for a great slow cooker pot roast. The other item I'll get is the full tenderloin. This is a big cash outlay, but makes for about 8 filet steaks once you process it. This then results in about a $5-6 filet. Grill that up with a few sides and a glass of wine and you have a first class meal for about $10. The store's business model is to charge you what it costs them plus $10%. I don't know if they actually sell at cost plus 10% but probably do. Just keep this in mind because when you get to the register, everything costs about 13-4% more, the 10% for the store and the rest is sales tax. When you walk in, you will get the feeling that this is a no frills store. It isn't some place where I really want to spend time browsing so I'm mostly in and out. The good deal on meat makes up for the lack of glamour.

Let me start by saying that this is in no way a stab at any employees who work at this store…read morethemselves; they're just as good of people as at any other location. That being said, I grew up living right behind store #0001, way back in the days where I could ride my bike there as a kid and spend an afternoon in the electronics section playing their video games. However, having moved and now still live in Springdale for this many years, I randomly decided to try this old store again tonight after work. My mistake. Outside, the parking lot still has a lot of the same bumps and holes I still remember as a kid. The exterior is unassuming and looks to have some age on its renovations. Fast forward to inside. Excessively crowded and simply visually unappealing. Organization is very strange and things feel out of place. Not only that, but the store itself stinks; can't place what of. Peeling the old white tiling off the floors and going with the polished cement look does NOT work here. It looks trashy. I couldn't help but laugh thinking how much this store sucks now. You'd think with it being store #0001 in Walton-World, this would be HQ's silver spoon baby. But it looks like they've kind of abandoned it. Even Supercenter #0054 right next to me in Springdale I once thought was trashy, but it now blows #0001 out of the water. (Bigger, too.) At the end of the day, I didn't care, though. It wasn't my main reason for being there. I just got my groceries and left. TL;DR - Looks and smells like crap, packed full of people, but okay if you need groceries.
