After reading all the 5 star reviews about A Certified Chimney Sweep on Kudzu and Citysearch I decided to give them a call. Too bad there were none on Yelp yet. I called and scheduled a chimney sweep and inspection for $169. The arrived when they were to do the sweep and inspection, they were about 30 minutes late showing up but that was ok as the traffic in Buckhead really sucks sometimes. I wasn't at home during the sweep process so I left my girl in charge of making sure they did a good job. After they were finished sweeping and inspecting the chimney they told her that we needed a screen on the smoke stack that they would be happy to provide for an additional $125. We decided against that and I am glad I did. Come the next day after the sweep we are having a party at the house and wanted to fire up the fireplace before the guest arrived to create a nice atmosphere for our guests, so I put in a couple of logs and lit them up. To our dismay the entire house filled with smoke (yes I did have the damper open); the chimney was not drawing the smoke out. This pissed me off since I had given them $169 to make sure the chimney was clean and thought the inspection would have been good enough to make sure something like this didn't happen. The entire house smells awful, even 2 weeks later. I called the following Monday and asked if they could come back out. I later received a call from the guy who cleaned the chimney saying he would be out that day. I went home and waited for him to show up, he called again saying it would be the next day before he could get out there. I waited the next day and he called saying he would not be able to make it out again. He promised to call me the next day when he was on his way out, but the call never came. We will be calling them back out again. Depending on if they show up or if they fix the chimney to work this review might get updated. Until then, 2 stars is way more than fair for this company as you can always buy a groupon deal to have your chimney swept for $99 from another company. read more

We were happy to find 'A Certified Chimney Sweep'. Mr. Richardson was reliable, honest, reasonably priced and local.

Honesty honestly still exists! Larry and Lorenzo arrived right on time; no sitting around until early evening; saved me an entire day's worth of work/income. Better still, turns out the other reviews are spot on. I have avoided having my chimney swept for several years. I didn't use it that much...that was my excuse. Not a good excuse, as anyone who's had a chimney fire will attest. The REAL reason I didn't get my chimney swept for many years was, frankly, because I didn't trust anybody to do a good, honest job. I'd heard too many stories of other companies that up-charged or flat-out said something (expensive) was wrong. Spent a couple of hours researching companies, and A Certified Chimney Sweep came out on top. They're here right now. Larry took a look and said (drumroll, please) it just needs basic cleaning. Fantastic company for chimney maintenance and inspections. Prompt, courteous communications and service with truly honest employees. I was referred to them (after a small but exciting chimney fire!) from a neighborhood Facebook group. When I called, I received an appointment and a quote. On the day of service, I got a phone call with an estimated time of arrival (within 10 mins of original time). Fabian and his father Lorenzo were awesome guys. They determined I needed a video inspection and charged me nothing for the visit. The office called to schedule the inspection within 1 hour, and a few days later, LM Richardson came out. He, too, called with the ETA. He got straight to work. He did the work and there was literally no mess. He even gave me a discount from the original price bc of the two-visit inconvenience. Thadius came to our house today to inspect and clean our wood burning fire place and our wood burning stove. As promised he called 30 minutes before arriving and was on time. Thadius was professional and took time to explain how to use both the fireplace and the stove as we have just moved into our home and never used them before. During his inspection of our fireplace he shared it didn't need to be cleaned which was great news and very honest. Thadius took his time with us and was very professional. I am surprised to see any negative reports via LR Richardson's chimney cleaning company, because we have used him for at least 15 years and have had exemplary service. We first started using this company when we were in our former house and we called for a 2nd opinion because we had been given an estimate from another company who said we needed a liner for our chimney (which was very expensive). Mr. Richardson gave us a detailed explanation why this was not needed. In those first years of service, he also took the time to teach me the best way to make a fire! The last time we had our chimney cleaned, two other employees came to do the work. They seemed very competent as well and were pleasant and cleaned up the area. My only concern is that someday Mr. Richardson will retire! read more

The Hearth and Patio Shop suggested that we call LM Richardson to inspect the chimney in the 1960s home that we purchased earlier this year. Fabian came today, calling shortly after my one-hour window began to let me know that he was on his way. He arrived about 40 minutes into the window, which was great. Fabian was very friendly and told me that his honest opinion was that the chimney was in great shape and did not even need a sweep. Since it did not need the sweep that was included in our package, he very kindly offered to replace the chimney cap that has been missing since we bought the house.
