Despite Lisa's serious communication issues and difficulty processing feedback, we were content to keep her on forever, simply because the cats loved her. But then she fired us as we were about to go out of town and refused to inform us whether she intended to honor her pre-existing commitments. Some background: It was often a struggle to understand what Lisa wanted. Lisa doesn't like being texted on vacation, but she has little issue texting clients about personal things on their vacation. She sometimes insists you use the app, while feeling free to contact you via text message at other times. She'd get frustrated if we didn't pay the right Zelle account, but she gave us both accounts. Sometimes, one would not work so we'd use the other. This was one of many matters prompting Lisa to snap at my wife, a common occurrence. My wife is not rude or demanding. She is to the point and simply trying to communicate, especially on vacation. On a few occasions, Lisa's terse replies had my wife on the verge of tears. The real problems escalated over a plant, though. My wife propagates plants on our window sills. Lisa asked if she could have one in exchange for her plant-watering fee. My wife said OK, but she'd need to wait. Our friend in Asheville had lost EVERYTHING in the recent flooding, and many of the plants my wife was propagating were earmarked for her friend. My wife planned to give Lisa two plants from her next batch and even intended to plant them in fancy pots as a thank you for the care Lisa has shown for our cats. Well, Lisa got impatient. On a recent vacay, Lisa kept texting my wife about a plant. A bit annoyed because Lisa doesn't like getting texts on her own vacations, my wife told me she'd deal with it later. When we got home, Lisa had not only taken a plant, but had taken the biggest one. She'd also taken the wrong plant, mistaking a coin plant for a money tree. She'd left a note saying she'd taken it because my wife hadn't replied. Where on Earth is that tantamount to permission? Anyway, my wife sent her a text saying she could keep the plant but in the future she should wait for a reply. Lisa did not like this. I was on the couch when she arrived. Lisa put the plant on the porch with a note. I knew my wife told her to keep it so I motioned through a window "no" as she set it down. She shook her head and made haste back to her car. As I was opening the front door to call to her, she took off with a little squeal. The note said she didn't want to wait for the plants my wife intended for her, that she wanted to give one to one of her friends now. She added that she didn't want a plant at all because it would bring "bad juju" to her house. In my mind, taking a plant without permission would be the source of bad juju, but what do I know? After this incident, Lisa became noticeably shorter. Her reports weren't quite so friendly. Sometimes her messages were incomprehensible. We couldn't make sense of them. She gave our furbaby with a pancreas disease the wrong food serving, despite us updating it in the app. There were other issues, most of them minor, but she was clearly annoyed. Again, what mattered most to us is the cats liked her. Lisa was slated for an upcoming visit, so I told my wife that Lisa hadn't closed the cat food properly -- she left the top of a 17-pound bag gaping open with a chip clip hanging off its side -- and she'd failed to close our broken fridge door properly, even though we'd left her a note, which disappeared for some reason. These were small, basic things, just a little constructive feedback as we didn't want the cat food or food in the fridge to spoil. Lisa did not agree. She wrote a text screed complaining that we didn't inform her earlier and FIRING US. Shocked, my wife wrote back that that was fine, but would she still honor her upcoming commitments? My wife sent multiple notes. Lisa didn't respond until two days before we left. We'd found another sitter by then, which for those in the know, is a huge hurdle when you're getting ready to leave town (catsitters need a meet-and-greet before taking on new clients). Lisa said she hadn't seen the messages in the app that she demanded we use! This, after much complaining that we weren't using the app properly (we thought we were). When my wife explained we found another sitter, Lisa, within what seemed like minutes, complained that we were hurting her reputation by telling another catsitter about our experience and later cut us off from the app (so, now, we couldn't copy and paste info and instructions for other catsitters who use the same app). After all this malarkey, we are kind of relieved she fired us and have found two awesome catsitters to take her place.

During this time, we experienced three issues, all of which we brought to their attention (vs. of the other way around): 1. The first pet sitter brought her fiancé along without our knowledge or permission, which we caught on our doorbell. The excuse was that he was experiencing "a distressing personal situation." This is not only extremely unprofessional; it's a liability. We let it go and asked that it not happen again. 2. The second pet sitter, who was booked for an overnight stay, left at 9:45 PM to spend the night at her own home. At first, we thought she went to get dinner, but after two hours, we contacted the owners again. They confirmed she went home because she interpreted my offer "to stay in our guest room if she wanted" meant she did not actually have to stay overnight, despite the fact we paid for an overnight stay. They sent her back and took one night off our bill. At this point, I started wondering if I needed to fly home; this was not going well. 3. A couple of days later, we returned home only to find that the first pet sitter had burned the interior of our built-in microwave and melted the interior door panel by heating up metal dog bowls in it, twice. She could have caught our kitchen on fire. When contacted, the owners confirmed she did it but claimed she didn't know you can't microwave metal or where alternate bowls were located. I would assume this is common sense, but you'd think you'd stop the microwave after it started sparking the first time. I also sent her a photo of my instruction letter where I had explicitly mentioned where the other bowls were. Despite our open communication throughout this experience, their manager blamed us for the sitters' errors and made both excuses (e.g., "they're not our employees; they're independent contractors") and sarcastic comments ("we don't put trackers on them"). She informed us that our "old" microwave was worth $100 "if that." It's a built-in, name-brand appliance with a replacement cost almost three times that. After everything, she also decided it was a good time to ask for proof of my husband's military service, questioning his integrity. When you trust someone with both your pets and your home, you might expect them to treat you a little better.

Do NOT hire if you have cats…read more TL;DR = I have an automatic feeder and despite my clear instructions not to give them food, the lady gives them bowls and bowls of it. They gained several pounds during the 4 days I was away. When I told her the big mistake she made, she was defensive, unprofessional, didn't give me a refund or even apologize. NEVER AGAIN. In July I hired this company to take care of the kittens I had adopted in May. I went on a 2 week trip to Europe, and Lisa said she could come every other day since they were cats and therefore more independent. It went pretty well except for my apartment was messy upon my return (ex: open can of wet food sitting in sink) and I was charged extra than what was agreed upon because more food was purchased by the sitter to give the kittens. That should have been a red flag. Over the next few weeks I did more research on health for kittens and determined I wouldn't give them wet food anymore, and wanted to buy them an automatic feeder so they wouldn't overeat when I was gone for the weekend. In September I purchased the Crestuff Automatic Portion Control feeder. I love it. I set it to the correct portion size, and fed my kittens on a set schedule 4 times a day. I got them to their vet-recommended healthy weight. This past weekend I went on a 4 night trip and hired Lisa again to come every other day. She came over on Friday and Sunday. I left a very detailed email with the following instruction being the first: 1) As I mentioned, the kitties have an automatic feeder. There should be no problems with it at all, but please do check to make sure the display is still on. The feeder gives them food 4 times a day so you don't need to give them any. When I get back from my trip Monday evening, the first thing I see is a bag filled with soiled cat litter sitting outside my door. I live in an apartment complex with a dumpster conveniently located on your drive out. But what I saw inside was horrifying. My kittens gained SO much weight over the weekend! The tray for their feeder had an enormous pile of food on it, and beside the feeder was a large bowl filled almost to the top with their food! They were sick, sluggish, bloated, and their litter box was completely filled with poop. Before leaving for the trip, I made sure to fill up my feeder. It was now halfway empty. I was crying hysterically because I give my cats Blue Buffalo food, and they're only supposed to get 1/2 cup daily. So not only were they getting their normal 4 TIMES DAILY feeding, but they were given WAY TOO MUCH extra by the sitter, DESPITE my CLEAR instructions in writing. The point of an automatic feeder is that it's portion controlled, and you don't need to give them extra food. I emailed the sitter telling her the problem, saying she must not have much experience with taking care of cats and asked for a refund. This was her reply: "Actually I have a great deal of experience taking care of cats and I have over a hundred fifty clients. I was very hesitant to take care of them again because last time they were starving each time I arrived and Mosr pet sitting businesses will not take every other day visits because it's not safe for the cats. you are the only client I have and I specify only where the cats act like they are completely starving when I arrive. please feel free to check with the SPCA and humane society and other pet sitting business is on their policies for feeding animals every other day." She basically accused me of animal abuse and was so idiotic to not understand that I'm not feeding my cats every other day - I'm feeding them 4 times daily. She claimed that they were "starving"....cats always act like they're hungry because they don't know when they're full - which is why so many cats are overweight. Everyone knows that. Rather than an apology, she sends me a Client Incident Report where she typed out what she did. Here's part of it - "The new "automatic food " feeder was empty in the bowl and quite full at the top. I was not familiar with this type of feeder so I found the new box and read about it. The cats were still highly agitated so I made the decision to open the feeder and fill a food bowl for them. They ate the entire bowl while I was there and at one point were fighting over the food so I split it." REALLY?!? Are you kidding me??? Of course the feeder tray is empty. Because when the food is dispensed, the cats eat it right away. And really? Because it was "quite full" you think it's not working? The display was on. I told her that meant it was working. And really? You gave them a whole bowl? Could you not read on the food bag that they are supposed to get 1/4 cup- 1/2 cup daily? She goes on to say "Sunday, Both cats were again highly agitated and I could not tell if they had been eating. Again, not wanting to leave them without food and water, I gave them a bowl of food again and they ate the entire bowl while I was there." Unbelievable. Beware!!!

The scheduled appointment was for 11am - and she arrived late (11:20am). 1 star She jumped out of the van and immediately acknowledged Gizmo. My first impression was that she was cute and young looking but dressed professionally and appropriate. Professional with a boho / punk sort of twist - maybe it was the large chunky streaks of purple hair pulled back in a pony tail. 5 stars She did a rather lengthy but informal interview where we discussed Gizmo's temperament & normal grooming routine. We also discussed my expectations - I asked her to shave his paw pads down as low as she could safely take them - I even showed her pictures so that she would see how they typically look after a visit with a competent groomer. I also requested that she shave his sani areas and belly. 5 stars She appeared to be a kind, caring and knowledgeable individual. She IS knowledgeable. When I commented on how young she looked - she told me she's been grooming for FIFTEEN years. 5 stars The van was equipped with a reservoir that holds 75 gallons of water - so there was no need for a hose hook-up - but they do plug into your electricity. 5 stars for not wasting water or polluting the environment using a generator. The price on her website says baths START at $35. On the phone - she said price was $35. I remember asking her if she was sure because she was so far away from me. And I distinctly remember it because I told her I used to work 'out that way' about a decade ago and it was 39 niles unless she took the 'back way' and she said she would take the 'back way' and always does. Today - before she got started - I asked her what the price was - just to be certain, and she said $45. I wasn't sure if he's $45 (instead of $35 'start at' price) because of his long hair, or because I'm a little further away from her than her routine clients. I probably should have gotten a text confirmation. Honestly - I didn't argue with her because $45 was more than reasonable - but I mention it here because she did change the price on me. She did also mention that when people schedule routine grooming - the price per visit is lower. 2 stars She completed the grooming very quickly. 5 stars I wasn't thrilled with the end result. Paw pads did not look good. Tops or bottoms. She did 'fix' the tops and take the paw pads down more after I asked her to - but I honestly felt like she was under the impression that I didn't mind risking harming Gizmo's paw pads to get the 'look' that I wanted. I told her not to take them down any further if she didn't feel comfortable doing so. But she had her assistant hold him to keep him calm and steady and she took care of it. Primarily though - I was disappointed because Gizmo's coat wasn't as fluffy as it typically is after a fresh grooming. And the hair behind his ears was wavy and crinkly. Plus his belly wasn't shaved as low and 'clean' as I'm used to. She did explain that the straight, fluffy look I'm used to comes from the dog being placed in a blower box and she used a forced air dryer (she explained further but I think I've provided MORE than enough detail here.) She also explained that shaving him too low can give him razor burn. 2 stars That nets a cumulative rating of 3.5. So I'll list them as 3 stars - A-OK!

Based on my recent experience, I do not believe they have their clients' pets' best interests at heart. Yesterday, I took my one-year-old dog to Ruff House for daycare. Unfortunately, I made a mistake and told my husband the wrong pickup time. I mistakenly thought they closed at 7:00 PM because another daycare we use has those hours. Ruff House closes at 6:00 PM. When my husband arrived at 6:15 PM, the facility was completely empty--there were no employees, no vehicles, and no one available to assist us. I spoke with the manager, Ann, the following day about the situation. The conversation began pleasantly but quickly became dismissive and confrontational. Rather than addressing my concerns, she attempted to tell me things about my dog that I know are not accurate. She also openly shifted blame onto individual employees, mentioning them by name and attributing the situation to their mistakes. During our discussion, Ann confirmed that Ruff House does not have an after-hours emergency contact number and has no plans to establish one. This was particularly concerning given that they are responsible for caring for other people's beloved pets. While I fully acknowledge that the initial pickup issue was my mistake, I was surprised that no one attempted to contact me by phone, text, or email to verify whether we were coming. I live only seven minutes from the facility and could have been there immediately. What concerned me even more was learning that boarded dogs are left unattended overnight for approximately 13 hours. According to our conversation, all employees leave at 6:00 PM, and no one returns before 7:00 AM. I understand that facilities may not be staffed 24/7, but 13 consecutive hours without on-site supervision seems excessive. When I worked at a dog daycare in college, staff remained with the animals until 9:00 PM, and morning staff arrived as early as 5:30 AM to care for them. To make matters worse, my dog was fed without my authorization or prior communication. Since returning home, he has experienced vomiting and diarrhea. After this experience, I contacted several other local dog daycare facilities, including Puppy Haven, to ask how they handle situations involving late pickups and overnight care. Their policies place a much stronger emphasis on communication with pet owners and ensuring the safety and well-being of the animals in their care. While everyone makes mistakes--including me--the way this situation was handled left me deeply disappointed and concerned. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Ruff House. **As of today, there is no business by this name with an active business license with the State of Georgia according to the Secretary of State's website. All businesses in the state of Georgia are required to have a business license and all are searchable on the website as they are public records.**
