Billy's Family Restaurant sits on the outskirts of Penticton, occupying a piece of culinary real…read moreestate that has less to do with excellence and more to do with geography. It's the kind of place that benefits immensely from being one of the few dining options around. Travelers passing through, road-weary families, truckers, and anyone needing a pit stop before another stretch of highway inevitably find themselves pulling into the parking lot. The menu won't surprise you. Nobody is shaving truffles over handmade pasta or firing artisan pizzas from a wood-burning oven. What you'll find instead is a familiar catalogue of diner classics: meat and potatoes, burgers, sandwiches, and breakfast standards that haven't changed much since the days when smoking sections were still a thing. Portions arrive with unapologetic enthusiasm. The kitchen seems to subscribe to the philosophy that if some is good, more is better. Plates are loaded with the sort of hearty, fat-forward comfort food that could fuel a long-haul trucker through the Rockies. Whether that's a blessing or a warning depends entirely on your relationship with cholesterol. My arteries were filing formal complaints before I finished reading the menu. To be fair, Billy's isn't trying to reinvent dining. It knows exactly what it is: a roadside restaurant serving dependable, uncomplicated food to hungry people who need a meal more than an experience. The breakfast offerings are substantial, the coffee flows freely, and nobody is pretending this is a destination restaurant. Overall, Billy's is fine for what it is--a practical stop rather than a memorable one. If you're about to embark on a five-hour drive back to civilization, there's something reassuring about a hot breakfast and a full tank of calories. Just don't come looking for culinary inspiration. Come because you're hungry, you're passing through, and Billy's happens to be there. Cheers.

Great stop to have burgers!…read more Gave it 4 stars because I read a review that said to try their fries. I tried their fries, and they were unremarkable. But I still ate them. My husband had the BLT. Said it tasted homemade which is a compliment! Wait staff was good. Service prompt and friendly. We kept going back and forth to find the place because we were looking for a big sign in the building. Later we saw the signs along the road. If the fries were as good as the burger and BLT, this would have been a 5 star review. I should have tried the jojos instead. My husband had the poppers. Yummy. Formulate your own opinion and try this place. We were passing through on a roadtrip. If we're back again, you can be sure that I'll order the burger, with jojos. Oh... another thing. I read about the air conditioning being too cold in other reviews. I run hot anyway, so it was perfect for me. My husband wore his jacket, if that tells you anything. I would much rather be at a place where it's too cold, than too hot. It was in the 90's outside, so having a burger and a sandwich was a welcome relief.

We dropped in around 1:00pm and snagged seats on one of their outdoor picnic tables. Our server was friendly but beware, they don't inform you of the automatic 18% gratuity on the bill. Nothing on any of their menu's state that either. Super unimpressed because we ended up double tipping. Menu consists of appetizers, hot sandwiches + burgers, cold sandwiches and salads. They also have a brunch menu (weekends only from 9:00am to 1:00pm) and drinks. - Rocking horse caesar ($8.25) - O is a picky drinker but he said it wasn't half bad. - 2x Weezy wings ($12.00) - our group shared one order with a dill dip ($1.00 extra). The wings were not good; dry and almost tasteless. The louisian style hot sauce they coated the wings with was bland. - Seattle fries ($6.00) - found these oversalted. - 4x Pastrami ($15.00) - we opted for the kettle chips (made in-house). A touch of a peppery Cajun note. The pastrami had a good sauce and the cheese complimented the meat. The bread was well buttered and had a crunchy bite to it. - Choreazy ($15.00) - we went with the daily soup (chicken and rice) which was delicious. Homey and comforting, something your mom/grandma would feed you. The chorizo was homemade but flavours were a bit mute. An okay sandwich that we didn't particularly love or hate. So other reviewers have stated…read morethat this place is great and you get a huge amount of food for having the reputation of a tourist trap. I will agree and disagree with some of these reviews from a perspective of a tourist but also someone who eats out a lot. The good: food was good, staff was friendly, ambience was enjoyable sitting outside near the lake in the shade. Family enjoyed the food, especially the fish although our pieces were crumbling and falling apart just touching them to move to other plates. Fries were good, tenders were good. Tartar sauce had a slight honey mustard taste which was a nice change. The bad: prices have gone up since last persons post 9 months ago. Items have increased $2-$3 dollars since then. Someone claiming the burgers were huge and could barely finish half of one, also confirmed by staff they were huge, was not so the case. It was a standard size burger I would compare to slightly shorter than a Big Mac at McDonald's. Other critique was the gravy on the poutine was slightly on the salty side as well. Dining bonus they give you 10% of at picnics ice cream and dessert place that is located next door. Overall it was a nice lunch but will cost you a considerate amount being in a tourist area.
