If I could put a zero star I would. He is beyond despicable and put cement down the chimney that…read morehe was "repairing." Like others on this thread, he takes a deposit and never finishes. There is always an excuse, like his heart, his kid, his truck..... he left my house exposed to the elements for over nine months. He never got a building permit as he has indicated, his work failed inspection when I contacted the building inspector and kept me from using my garage for over a year. Finally, I filed a complaint with the contractors' board (found guilty), the Attorney General's office (they had him sign a document that indicated his guilt) and then in small claims court (guilty again). After over a hundred hours of chasing him down, filing legal documents, phone calls and court appearances it came to me getting someone to follow him in the middle of the night to find out where he was living so he could be served. With that information, he was told he had to pay me the maximum amount I could get in small claims ($5K) or be put in jail. Amazingly he suddenly found some money to avoid jail but complained to the judge that I had gotten rid of his equipment that had been sitting in my driveway for 18 months. I used the sum that I received in court for a down payment to have a second contractor tear down his work and rebuild my chimney. What a nightmare. I can't understand how this person can look at himself in the mirror.

Now I think Joe is a likable guy, and he started out strong doing the job, but somewhere down the line, he stops showing up, before the job is complete. I had to tell Joe, we're done with you, I'll have to get someone else to finish the job. Something that should've take a couple of weeks, now going into 6 months. Totally unacceptable. Stay clear of Joe Grilo!
