We took two lawnmowers in for service & they asked what we wanted done, went over the process & did a great job. I was going to do them myself but after my third trip to Home Depot, watching a couple YouTube videos & realizing I still didn't have the right spark plug for one or the correct wrench to remove the spark plug I took all the parts back ($ 65) and had the professionals do it and they took care of way more than I was going to try to do. Both mowers received oil changes, new spark plug, new air filter, carb adjusted, blades sharpened, cleaned & more. They get busy & it took about 2 weeks, which is what they told me. read more

The shop is located right off the street in Loomis. There is parking that isn't very clear about where to park. I called ahead to drop off and get a time for the work to be performed. I was greeted by the employee and helped as I approached the door. There isn't a rhyme to the entrance and much room for people to operate. One customer and how ever many employees working on the various mowers and lawn equipment. I was explained what the work was to be performed to diagnosis and when to call back for a status. It was about a month out for it to be worked on at the beginning of spring. I left my mower and checked back about a month out. I called and was told a few more days. I was called back later in the day and it was done. I picked up the mower the same day. They charge a storage fee after it's fixed. It was working and I used it promptly at home. Good they fixed the issue. Bad not the greatest pricing. Other stuff a month later my mower stopped working yet again. The guy explained the issue to keep it running. I read reviews of the unit I purchased. Combination of poor product (not of the shop) and overpriced. I can go either way. I will attempt to fix it once more to sell. read more

Left riding mower with them for diagnosis. Charged $80 for the diagnosis which is OK. Waited 6 weeks. No response. Showed up in person twice. They finally said they'd try to get the parts. Then about an hour later, called me and said: "parts not available". He didn't even know what brand of motor the mower had but knew "the parts weren't available." Told me it was a brand that wasn't in the mower. I told them to put it back together and I'd pick it up. They charged me $170 to put it back together, un-repaired. I took it to another place and they got to work on it right away. Said no problem to fix it. $250 for them to tell me they couldn't repair it and return it in its original condition. read more

My Husqvarna chain saw needed to be serviced. Brought it in to A&J Repairs and got a quote for a complete service. Mike working the counter was an awesome help and very friendly. The mechanic in the back came out front and he was very informative and a great guy too. They originally quoted me two weeks for a possible turn around on the service, however it was finished and ready the next day. Chainsaw fired right up and ran like a champ. I can't say enough good things about A&J Repairs and highly recommend them! read more

Took my Echo in for repairs and it was promised to me by the owner in two weeks. I called on the date due. It was under warranty. One of the people there ( Jerry ) states he had to call Echo about the warranty which I took the paper work with me and gave it to them at the time I dropped it off. There service sucks and the man I talked to ( Jerry ) was rude. I will never go back. They charge you $40.00 when you leave it off in case it is not under warranty. They started it and called and stated nothing wrong. Pick it up and asked for the $40.00, and they ( Richard ) the owner stated it was not on the warranty and kept the $40.00. I have referred a couple of people that have not yet gone there and I will surely let them know what happened. In fact I have already e-mIled them. read more

I like to support local businesses, and I understand I might pay more for products and service, but I don't expect markups of 40% more than nearby box stores and certainly expect to be treated with a more friendly vibe than what I've received the last 3 times I've gone there. He never calls back after I left multiple messages, he does not follow up with the parts he orders and the mechanic has no experience. Geez, trying to write a review and on screen here a minute ago it had something about jeans. Well anyway, I rely on A&J to help me out with electric saws. I attempt to get done here in the yard what I am capable of which is limited/77 years old. A&J always give me a helping hand by putting in a new chain or sharpening the tool itself. I rarely review anything on Yelp - but unfortunately in this case I feel compelled to do so. I'm a longtime Loomis resident and when I was going to D.O. High I swear it must have been different ownership because I remember them being great. This is definitely not the case now - they are entitled, grumpy, and overpriced. I have had my lawnmower tires repaired and the mower serviced here on multiple occasions - they were always a little pricey and never pleasant - but at least they were local.. More recently I left my wood chipper there to have the motor diagnosed. They wanted to charge about $600 to repair or replace the engine (I do believe it was seized so a full replacement did make sense)... IT WAS A SMALL ENGINE - HONDA - I was a 3522 (Motor T Mechanic) in the Marines - it was pretty obvious they were trying to take advantage of us - not the first time I've seen this. I will admit I don't even remember the exact price of the quote but just that it was close to that and ridiculous. They knew it was egregious - it was pretty clear - these are the type of mechanics that give mechanics a bad name. I (admittedly) left my chipper there for a LONG time - I did forget about it. They ultimately charged me a bogus "storage" fee and said I couldn't have my chipper back until I paid it - which I did - and acted that I should be so gracious to have the fee cut down to $100 (for nothing) - as if it took up sooo much room. I'm so upset that I'll never be back there again - which really stinks because I'll have to travel much further for basic lawn mower repairs and I typically would support Loomis businesses above any others. The only reason they didn't get only ONE star is because they do seem to complete the projects (tire repair, tune-ups, etc.) - it's just that they are overpriced and they have terrible customer service. Bottom line: If you are in Loomis or Penryn, and you don't care about the customer service or the cost, and you simply don't want to leave the area - then go here - but just know that it's a last resort. I'd encourage you to support better business - I just don't have one to recommend quite yet. If you are from out of the area - definitely don't make the trip to here if it's out of your way. read more

unbelievable horrible experience. We purchased a $3,000 lawn mower from these people they were so great to deal with in the beginning. Got the lawn mower home it ran for an hour and appears the oil seized up in it something to that effect. These guys did not assemble the lawn mower correctly ruined my driveway with oil drops all over came and picked it up and told me it's going to be about a month before I can get the lawnmower back. I called Club cadet Club cadet said they could have a technician out in less than 24 hours on my property to fix it. These guys would not bring back the lawn mower and said they were going to repair it because they wanted the money. I have to wait a month with my lawn a foot high. Don't think so filed a lawsuit and we're going to go after him. This is what happens when your son's an attorney . read more

I brought in a John Deere Tractor with an unknown electrical system issue. Was told it could take up to a couple of weeks to get to it. The problem was diagnosed on the same day, repaired the same day and I picked the tractor up the following morning. Now, why the 5 Star review? Jerry (I am pretty sure that is his name) could have told me anything was wrong and I would not have been the wiser. When I pointed this out, he told me..."That is not how we do business here." So, my review is 5 stars for honesty, 5 stars for courtesy and 5 stars for professionalism. I am a huge supporter of small business. I never thought in my entire life I would leave a bad review for a business. But what this company did to me is shameful and in no way should anyone have to deal with the way they handled my situation. I simply dropped my 2.5 yr old lawnmower off for some running issues that myself and the gentleman at the front counter SPECIFICALLY discussed that I am solely here to see if it is covered under my three-year warranty and to call me if it's not before any repairs are to be done. I was told it would take one week and he would let me know what the status was. I've been call for three weeks trying to figure out what is going on with it and each time I called it was pushed out another week when they finally got to it three weeks after I dropped it off they called me and said " your lawnmower is done it's another $90 besides the $40 deposit you left". I said no there must be a mistake my lawnmower was there for a warranty check and I had even mentioned to the guy I dropped it off with to call me if it wasn't under warranty because I'm not gonna spend half of what a brand new one would cost to repair one!? He said he doesn't have it down as a warranty check so I said why do you think the copy of the receipt is in my file that you have don't you have a receipt that I left you to show proof of purchase for my warranty? He says oh I see the receipt but regardless this wouldn't have been covered under warranty. So I replied with then why was I not called before any repairs were done like I had requested at the time of dropping it off? He didn't seem to give a crap and QUOTE said "well do you want your lawnmower or not". now I'm pissed sorry but just as far as right there what a joke. He said they cleaned some fuel something or another and replaced my bent blade but said if I don't want the blade he'd take it off and put mine back on. So I said I have to talk to my husband. Since our lawnmower is now being held hostage for payment on something I never authorized. I called back and got voicemail so I left a message being EXTRA on ensuring To please DONT remove the new blade that I JUST want to know the cost of it to see if it's worth taking it off and putting mine back on. They called me the next day and said ok we took the new blade off and will NOT put yours back on because it's not safe......I wanted to scream at this point.... AGAIN NO ONE LISTENER TO WHAT THE CUSTOMER WAS ASKING! FIRST CALL IF NOT WARRANTIED THEN CALL ME BK DO NOOOOT REMOVE NEW BLADE YET...at this point they hate me and I am mind blown and say well I sure as hell don't wanna pick up my lawnmower with no blade what good is that so put it back on I guess and I'll have to be forced to pay for something I never asked for. Two days later I go to pick up the thing and he tells me it's ready to go with no blade........ Holy wow just wow I've already wrote a novel so I'm not gonna go into the conversation that we went to from there but I left that horrible place with my lawnmower and pieces that went to my blade and my blade like I know what to do with this.... never ever again.... I BAWLED the entire 30 min drive home at how they treated the situation and me and especially how they treated me and the words of choice used in front of my 5yr old (thankful my 1yr old had no idea what was happening) I was shaking from anger feeling taken advantage of and cried for almost 20 minutes once arrived at home. I love Loomis and was trying to shop local but A and J Repairs has unethical business practices. They will tell you they charge $40.00 to "look at" your machine. What they don't say is look is all they really do. I could tell none of the bolts had been loosened and a thin layer of dust and oil was still on the outer case. When I politely asked to speak with a manager/confronted them in a logical way; their true insecurities emerged. After being caught they scoffed "What was I supposed to do? Tell you, you had a piece of sh++ mower?" They seem glad to pocket your money and smirk behind your back. I let them know I would be writing this review to warn others to stay away. Beware their outrageous labor and parts fees. For example a battery was $10.00 less at the Hardware store. read more

I waited for my Cub Cadet SC100 for 4 weeks to arrive (an online purchase). The first time I revved it up (love the SureStart, BTW), there was a metallic grating noise. The cutting blade was hitting the inside lip of the deck. Called MTD Customer Service and they put me in touch with Rich at A&J. I got the mower to them that afternoon. Rich was great to work with. He took care of the registration and warranty for me and said the mower would be ready in one-and-a-half to two weeks. Well, it turns out he called me the next day! I just bought a home in Loomis and had to have a mower repaired. I was about to travel and they came and picked up the mower, fixed it and returned it back to my home. They were pleasant and kept me in the loop with the repair. The repair was very reasonable. I was having some trouble with mowing my first time and they came over to my home and helped me figure out the problem and made sure that I was operating the mower properly. I have been going to A J s for years. Never had a problem in till i took in my chain saw chains to be sharpened.i got them back duller than they were plus the metal was burnt black and blue!(usually a indicator the metal was over heated ruining the temper) i went back and to there credit they said they'd resharpen them and that they had been having some trouble with there machine. left them my saw and spare chain.when i picked up my saw the chain was so tight it would barely spin no problem i can adjust. But guess what,the chains are still dull and the chain on the saws not mine. when i bought the saw a year ago it came with two identical chains now there not same make.when i go back and complain he said they didn't switch chains, but he could resharpen them they got a new machine.i said no thank you ill go some were and get new chains,and he said f*ck you get out of here. seriously f*ck you, he said yes your being condescending.like i told him next time anyone asks if he sharpens chainsaws make sure to tell them no! Last Dec, I took my blower in for a gas leak and hard starting. After paying $68, it still leaked gas all over the garage floor. I took it back. After a month, they left a message on a phone I don't use. A month later, I called and asked about it and gave them my work phone number. He said he'd call right back. Nothing. A week later, I stopped by to talk to the owner. He said I was out the $68 and couldn't have my blower back. He was charging me rent to keep it there! I have patronized this business over the last few years as I wanted to support a local business. even though I thought their pricing was high especially on repairs. I have purchased many pieces of expensive equipment from them but when I brought my echo weed eater in that was 10 years old (purchased at Home Depot) as it was hard to start, they recommened that I fix it for $150 even though a new one costs $190. They said it just needed a tune up. So I went along with their recommendation and am now regretting it. It took them two weeks and they called to say it was ready to pick up. I got it home and it would not start. I called and spoke to Rich the owner who was as RUDE as could be. He never has been very polite but this went to a whole other level. He would not do anything for me and treated me like I was an idiot and accused me of flooding it. I asked him if he could credit part of what I paid towards a new one that I would purchase from him and he said no. I was appalled at his treatment of me especially since I have given him a lot of business.He was not willing to work with me at all. He obviously could care or less about my business and does not know the first thing on how to treat a customer. I mentioned to him about what they say about unhappy customers and how they tell many more people about their experience than happy customers and he replied that I could say whatever I want. So I will never go back and I will tell everyone I know to not patronize this business as they will not do the job right, will over charge and then not back up there work. I have since called TruValue in Auburn and they were wonderful. Super polite and helpfull. So I will definitely go there from now on.
