Having an old car has its challenges. One of those challenges are finding a place to do a smog check every 2 years. A&B Smog is spectacular. Called around 11am on a friday and asked if they can do a smog check for a 1996 vehicle. They said yes! Technician was polite and professional. Said since car is quite old there's always a chance of not passing. The whole thing took about 20 minutes and she passed! It was $65 all in which I think is a great price. I will be coming back here when my 96 or any of my other cars are due for a smog check. read more

I am never coming back here. I wasn't arguing with him or anything. The attitude was completely unnecessary and incredibly rude. I was just asking a question. It's surprising how they have lots of one star review but they have 4.4 star. The one star review complaints looks about the same, the boss unprofessional attitude. read more

Finding a place to eat? Fun!! Finding a place to get your car smogged? Eh.... A & B Test Only Center is.... well, a test only center. Only smog checks; the ones the DMV makes you do before paying for your car registration. It is no frills. Its atmosphere is distinctly "automobile repair garage". There are no vending machines, (mainly because the smog check? It's 10 minutes, in and out) And, it's reasonably priced. Also, there are no influencers here. Granted I've always passed. My 2014 Prius has a port under the steering column for connecting it to a computer so it can talk to the car, kinda like R2D2 talking to the Millenium Falcon's hyperdrive. No more spinning the drive wheels on a dynamometer for me. The owner/operator-- a laconic Asian gentleman-- efficiently does his thing and gets you outta there. We all have better things to do than getting your car a smog check, but A & B is local and always dependable. read more

Quick and efficient. Showed up without an appointment and everything was done within 10 minutes. $55 for my 2016 vehicle. Definitely one of the better prices out there. I'm glad I found this place because the previous smog place I visited in Monterey Park charged $80, and the owner was moody and not so friendly. Highly recommend! read more

The website states $10 off a smog check but they refused to honor it. He handed me back the keys and said if the regular price is too much then go elsewhere. It's just a smog check but I would advise not doing business here. read more

The original owner still runs this shop. Nowadays the car just need to park in front of the entrance. He connects the cables from the test instrument to the car engine and read off the data. The test is done is 15 minutes and the data is transmitted to DMV directly. There are customer waiting areas with shade outside the shop, courtesy of the owner. I have been coming for years. read more

Didn't get any pictures, but this spot is our go to for smogs. The owner is fantastic and answers all of our questions. Prices are beyond fair and definitely worth the value. Never dissatisfied in all the years getting the service done here. He is a one man operation and top notch at his job. So if you're in a hurry and he's a little busy, give him time and relax. Get a coffee before going there. Promise he will get the work done and done right! read more

Brought my 2018 Honda Civic for a smog check and the process was quick and efficient; in and out in less than 15 minutes and price was very reasonable. The man working there, Blake, got straight to the service as soon as I pulled up, told me how soon the DMV would get the results, and we called it a day. Will be coming back as necessary (: read more

I got a smog check here and I was in n out within 15 minutes. The guy there was extremely nice and was super quick. He was friendly and cracked couple jokes when I was there. Really appreciated his service and he has a great value. I paid 55$ for smog check which is average cost for the shops in the area I believe read more

Blake is the automotive technician that did my smog check. I called in to get pricing and ETA on how long it would take. My first smog check and it was so easy. I can at 9:15am, 15min after they opened and there were 2 cars ahead of me already. The wait wasn't too long though only 15min. The process was smooth and the owner was very friendly. Great experience! I will definitely be coming here for all my smog checks now. Thank you! read more

I had one of the worst customer service experiences in my life today at this smog check shop. My usual smog check partner's machine shut down, so I called this shop to confirm if they were open. When I arrived, the man there (who seemed to be the owner) treated me with complete disrespect. Just like other reviewers mentioned, he was rude and dismissive from the start. He asked if I was an individual or a dealer. When I said I owned a dealership, he asked for the name. After I told him, he rolled his eyes and said he had never heard of it -- as if I was "nobody." If he hasn't heard of us, that's his problem, not mine. When I asked about the test results and suggested a possible cooperation price of $50 (since I pay that with another smog check shop I work with), he immediately threw my car keys back into the vehicle, took his paperwork away, and shouted from his office: "I don't do business with people like you. bargaining.Get out!" This is absolutely the worst attitude I've ever seen in business. In my line of work, customers bargain all the time -- even on cars worth thousands of dollars -- and I would never treat anyone like this. I strongly recommend everyone avoid this shop. read more

Been coming here for smog test. Nice guy. Quick and best priced around here. Definitely recommend if you need a smog test.

Efficient, fair price. Come in the mornings if you don't want to wait behind other customers. Don't talk on cell phone in his waiting area, do that outside under a tree. I don't see the elderly blind limping dog anymore. Rest his dog soul. If you don't like tobacco fragrance, wait outside. Actually. I smell it from the street when I pull in. I don't mind. All good here. He doesn't waste your time or your money. $55 '96 and up $65 if '76-'95 No repairs offered, test only read more

I've been coming to A and B Test Only for my smog checks since around 2007, and it's consistently a great experience. Blake has been the main person there for years, and it's nice to see a familiar, professional face every time I come in. I recently brought in my 2014 Accord for a STAR smog check. Their price was very competitive, and I really appreciate that they don't charge an extra fee just because the DMV requires a STAR certification. Another huge plus for me is that they accept credit cards. I rarely carry cash because it's such a hassle to go to the bank, so being able to pay by credit card makes the whole process much more convenient. If you're looking for a fast, honest, and fairly priced smog check in Monterey Park, definitely go see Blake! read more

My car needed a smog test and A&B helped me do the smog. The service was quick and easy. As long as your car doesn't have any problems from the get go. I was there for maybe 20 minutes because he had a couple cars in line but no big deal. The price is usually listed by the window and its the cheapest in the area that I found. Great place for the pesky smog test. read more

I've been here a few times and Blake does an excellent job at smog checks each time. Very quick, just hand your keys and wait for 5-10 minutes. He's a chill and honest guy. A lot of the 1-star reviews does an injustice to Blake. He deals with a lot of unreasonable customers. Price is firm and yet people keep negotiating... even after he completed the job!!! I've seen people pull up ads from other smog check places and ask for a price match To one recent review, I can't believe you bargained after the job is done, so unethical! Your "business" had already been suspended in 2019. Lol talk about bad customers. read more

I wish there was option for negative stars This place is a scam and they guys is so rude. He didn't want to do a smog check for my mom because she waited "too long" to come back, whines only 2 weeks. No where posted did it say to come back by a certain time. He does not know how to talk to people I would never come here again he puts words in customer's mouths and is not a good business man. read more

If you need a Star Station...highly recommend. Fast service. Cheaper than most. They publish a coupon in the MPK Progress, but if you have an older car like me...it will cost $10 more. Total for my 1994 Miata was $65. Passed!! YAYYY!! Good advice from the mechanic like leave the motor running so the car is hot. Thank you for the advice, as I just drove over from a cold start...no need for an appointment. Go in mornings. I went at mid-afternoon around 3 on a Thursday and he was busy with six cars. Since my car needed to warm up, I didn't mind the wait. No small chit chat here, just quick and efficient. read more

Came here on an early Saturday morning for a STAR Smog, just after they opened. Blake was pretty chill guy. Things were a bit slow, but that may be cause I was there super early on a weekend. All in all, everything went well, passed smog with no issues. I'll be back... Would recommend! read more

Service was attentive, quick, and at a great price! I got my smog check for $55. Plus, the older man who assisted me spoke excellent English, I had no trouble understanding him. Respectfully, I've gone to mechanics that are difficult to understand because of their accents. It's hard to ask for assistance when that language barrier exists. I felt very comfortable speaking to the mechanic. 10/10 place! read more

Local place. Quick and easy. Was in and out in about 15min. Would definitely return on my next smog check.

I have been here for smog check for all my cars. One of my car was recently changed battery so it was not completely ready for emission test, got great advice from Blake. I came back two day later and was happy it was ready and pass in less than 10 minutes. Price is really reasonable and possibly the lowest in the area. read more

Guy works fast. Sharp. No bullshit. Doesn't waste time. Don't be stupid. If you fail you can retest.

As a woman, I want to feel comfortable to ask any questions about the service. In this shop, I was treated with respect and felt comfortable to ask the questions I had like how long does it take to process the approval, so I can pay my registration. They were fast and professional. I will definitely be recommending this place to others. read more

Fast and gets the job done! One of the best prices out there, and will definitely come back for future smogs

Yah the dude is grouchy as ______. He is honest, cheap and willing to help if you are respectful. Too many people come here to bring that GenZ energy. I wanted to take time to Highly recommend A&B Smog Test Repair Center.. I was stressed having to help my dad with his vehicle, trying to get the smog passed. When my dad told me he went to another Smog place saying that he needed repairs first b4 they cud pass his car. They quoted him lots of money. I was furious so, i decided to look on my own. That's wen i stumbled upon A&B Smog Test Repair Center.. I called to see if i cud come by same day and the guy on the phone was very kind and told me to bring the vehicle in. As soon as i got to the Smog Center, i was greeted by a guy named Blake. He was very friendly & asked how he cud help.. I could tell he was eager to assist so, i told him the situation on what happened to my dad and how the other Smog Center was trying to rip him off.. Blake was very attentive and said he wud check for himself. As Blake had investigated to see what was going on, he noticed that two crucial parts to having the vehicle pass smog was installed incorrectly. Someone had intentionally did wrong on my dads vehicle so that he wud have to pay more money to get it fixed first b4 it cud pass.. I was very furious as to why people wud take advantage of senior citizens.. But luckily coming to this location, i felt a sigh of relief knowing that there is still good & honest people working in this line of work.. My dad was very happy and thankful to Blake. I noticed this Smog Center has been here for over 20years.. and it's no wonder that this station is still running. Honesty, Professionalism, Genuine, Patience & Caring.. I will definitely bring all my vehicles here & will highly recommend all my Ohana & Friends to this location. Thank u so much Blake for being so patient, kind & a professional and knowing what to look for! You and A&B Smog Test Repair Center Rocks!! read more
