Updates: Comet continues to show progress. We went camping in San Onofre Beach in August. He walked without barking around strangers and walked on sand for the first time without engaging in challenging behaviors :) Now my family members can take him on a walk. Comet makes eye contact with me frequently during a walk. 90% of the time, he is a calm dog. But he could bark or pull leash when there are new distractors introduced (i.e., seeing a stroller with baby in it, seeing a paper airplane in the air, etc). But I know that if I keep continue to use strategies and equipments that Jeff showed me, Comet will continue to progress. Jeff calls me to check in occasionally to see how Comet is doing. When I asked suggestions about the other dog, he asked me to bring the other dog. I have used Jeff's services twice now, and both times he has helped my family feel whole :) Don't get me wrong, this is hard work and it never stops! I just finished my 7th out of 8 sessions and I'm so happy I found Jeff! I have a 4 month old German Pinscher (similar to a medium size Doberman) and we had issues with him being aggressive towards our 10 year old. At first we just thought it would fade away because he was a pup but I'm so glad we looked into training because I've learned so much about a dogs behavior and mind. Dogs do not think like humans and it's usually our fault for thinking that way which usually leads to unfortunate situations. There has not been any more issues with Kobe and my son, they have positive interactions now and my son ( who was afraid of him) now begs to play or pet him. Jeff showed me how to walk Kobe on a leash properly and how to make him follow me, not the other way around. Kobe used to pretty much walk me lol. He's calmed down so much and listens way better. He also walks into his crate without any hassle when it's crate time, and stays as long as 3 1/2 hours with no accidents. Life has been so much easier, I can now go run errands knowing Kobe is happy in his crate (no more barking) and our walks are so fun because he's so well behaved now. I brought my little Yorkie to help get her trained to potty outside and to stop destructive behaviors in the house. She also would not walk on a leash. I bought a package deal with them to see if they could help. We did weekly lessons and I had homework to do every day. He had me video the homework as well. My Yorkie made very quick progress. Potty training happened very quickly. It took a few weeks to address some of the destructive indoor behaviors and for her to start to accept the leash. A lot of this training really had to do with me and my wife's behavior. Once we understood how to interact with our dog in a way that addressed her behavior we got results. Consistency was the key. Jeff is a FANTASTIC trainer. Due to a mixup at the shelter, I ended up with my dog, Lou, who is now the cutest, sweetest dog on the planet. When I got Lou however, she'd spent the first 8 years of her life being bred in captivity and had severe issues. Due to tumors in her ears from neglect/poor hygiene, she's about 90% deaf. She also has poor eyesight. She didn't know how to walk on a leash, wasn't potty trained and had severe trust issues--she wouldn't even eat food out of my hand. I was incredibly overwhelmed. On day 2 with Lou, I called Jeff, basically in tears. He came over later that day for a consult and ended up staying for over 2 hours. I've never regretted spending money on anything as much as I did with Jeff. I refrained from writing a review at first, but decided on writing one since I felt the need to inform the community of my experience and hopefully protect someone else from going through what I did. Everything started out well. I was requesting quotes on Yelp one evening looking for a trainer for my dog and Jeff was the first one to write back. He informed me that he only takes cash which was a bit of a red flag for me but since the cost of his sessions were still within my budget I agreed to meet up with him a few days later with cash in hand. Everything seemed normal until I handed him the cash. He informed me it was non-refundable even if my dog dies. He also told me I'd need a remote shock collar for my dog and I recognized which model he was talking about since I've owned one in the past. He gave me the option to buy it on my own or buy it from him. He said he "has it in the car" and I declined since I did not have any cash on me after paying for 8 sessions upfront. Fast forward to our next session. I show up early(I'm always early for my appointments)with the remote collar and new choke chain thinking I'm a good student for having everything in place. Nope -- I was met with a condescending tone and Jeff tripping out about how I **PROMISED** him I would buy the items from him. He never even told me the cost of the collar. How could I have PROMISED him anything without even being told how much he charges or how much cash I should bring? He even went as far as to say with smirk "you obviously weren't listening" and I immediately put my foot down and told him to "watch it. I'm the client here. Let's not forget that." If there was a miscommunication then I apologize. Regardless, I am still a client. That's also when I realized just how strapped for cash Jeff is as when someone is that broke it tends to radiate from them. Everything they do and say starts to sound desperate. I would show up and listen to him complain about his problems in life, his political views, his health. Most of the time I just nodded and pretended to agree with him since I was trying to avoid any type of altercation like the first week and to be honest, I was just trying to hurry and get all my sessions over with because I couldn't stand him anymore. He would make snarky comments and I didn't appreciate his condescending ways especially having paid a good sum of money in CASH. He'll gladly mark up an item and sell it to his clients and even if he's making an extra $4 on a $6 choke collar it's worth it to him. He insisted that I need a new crate since the one I had was unsuitable. He also told me to buy a 10-15 ft long line only to later criticize the one I bought saying it's cheap(he never specified which brand or type to get). He also suggested a bark collar that my dog would wear when I leave the house. Since I was trying to smooth things over with Jeff since getting into a tiff earlier on, I told him I'll buy the bark collar from him. He didn't tell me what brand or where he'll get it from only that it's "$120 plus tax." and that it'll come brand new with a new battery. Funny -- he marks up the cost of an item THEN charges tax on top of that. He took my cash on the spot and I knew he would probably need the cash to go buy the item for me. It would take 3 sessions and me asking each session about the collar for him to finally bring me the item. Mind you he had to go drive back home in the middle of our session to go get it. He comes back 10 mins later, puts what looks like an older model, used collar(no box, instructions) in my hand and says "you'll have to buy a battery for it." HUH??? What happened to you promising that it'll be a brand new collar with a brand new battery? This was the last straw. I told him my dog and I were leaving and got in my car and started the engine. He was yelling my name outside my window and i finally opened my window to let him know he had a major attitude problem and that I don't appreciate all his snarky little comments. I drove off and he proceeded to call me. I immediately blocked his number and also him on Yelp so that I will never have to deal with him again. Later on I tried to look for the bark collar he sold me but all the ones I found online by Garmin looked a hell of a lot newer and didn't even resemble the one Jeff gave me(see photo). Please exercise caution before hiring this man. There's so much more to my story, but to spare an even longer review I'll end it here. I'm working with a new trainer who is just WONDERFUL. My dog has been doing better than ever and I'm only getting charged per session on a as needed basis. Jeff can keep the money I paid upfront since it's clear he needs it more than me. Condescending Harsh Trainer We are a military family. I wanted help with training my 2, 1 yo Havanese littermates. I reached out to multiple dog trainers, and Jeff was the first to respond back. Jeff is quite condescending. From constant complaining that I did not use the kind of kennel he preferred (we are military so we prefer to use wire kennels that fold down for the many moves we have every couple years as opposed to the airline kennels he likes), to phone calls that were seemingly endless (I ended up resorting to text only as I do not like to be trapped for needlessly lengthy phone calls), to multiple comments about how I obviously "rush and take shortcuts" when it came to working on my dog training at home, I cannot recommend him as a dog trainer. From what I've seen with how he handles his pups, he is extremely harsh with them, the poor doggies. I worked with my pups every. Single. Day. I understand consistency is key in training. I have owned dogs all my life and am familiar with the concept that more effort poured in will result in better trained animals. I spent at least 30 minutes walking separately with each dog twice a day. AT LEAST. (except Sunday; I would give myself 1 day/wk break). But instead of encouragement, I was usually met with condescension. As a former teacher, I understand that different students learn different ways, and a good teacher will meet the student where they are, and encourage them to higher performances via positive reinforcement. Jeff did not do this. He was belittling and got angry every time I showed up to the training session with each dog in his own kennel in the back of the car next to each other (they were separated by a blanket so they couldn't see each other). I had to endure a 10 min lecture at the start of every session because I didn't separate the kennels (he wanted me to put one in the backseat and leave the other in the rear of the car.) I also had to hear over and over why they shouldn't have pads in their kennels, also. But to waste time hearing over and over how I was not following his direction on this topic was taxing and useless. Jeff is also a tightwad. I bought a choke collar from him for $20, but had such difficulty putting it on my pups (I have arthritic hands), I purchased some from Amazon that had clips with which to fasten them together. I used his choke collar for one day only for about 20 minutes and requested a refund at the following training session. He hemmed and hawed about how "now it was used and he wouldn't be able to sell it for full price" (when he originally had me purchase different used collars from him at the start of our sessions for full price). He didn't want to refund me, and kept showing me how "easy" it was to put on. Over and over he showed me, while telling me it was so easy. I don't care how many times I'm TOLD it's "easy"; it was NOT EASY for ME and I did not want to use those particular collars. He complained how he was "so strapped for cash" and how it was "really going to hurt him financially" for me to get my refund. He complained that I had bent the collar. He complained so much I finally just agreed to getting back $15 so the complaining would end and we could hopefully get on with the training session. The final straw was when I asked him for a refund for training sessions I was unable to use. The military moved our transfer date sooner than expected, and I still had 3 sessions left. I paid $1000 for 8 sessions, and was only able to use 5 of them. (one of my pups broke his foot and we had to pause the sessions for a few weeks to let his leg heal and cast come off). Jeff charges $125/session, which means I'm losing $375. I texted him asking for just $250 back. I figured he wouldn't refund any, (seeing how he had complained so much over the $20 collar), but thought I'd give him a chance to do what was honorable. He told me he couldn't refund the money because he had been "holding my time slot for me" and had lost business as a result. WHAT??? I never had a cemented "time slot", because every time I asked for a certain time slot on a specific afternoon, I was always told to wait till the day before to see if the slot was going to be available for me. He justified the lack of refund with "you can call me anytime you have questions"...as IF I want to endure more condescension and lengthy phone calls about his medical woes, insurance difficulties and financial hardships!! We ALL have life troubles, but when "professionals" complain it's very unbecoming. Do not waste your time. Contact a kinder, more patient dog trainer that trains with positive encouragement. How in the world he has all these 5 star reviews is beyond me. Maybe folks are too intimidated by him?? After response: Huh. Didn't take collars on vacation. Also took & showed video. Jeff is Awesome! I own 4 crazy boxers and when he came to evaluate our situation he wasn't critical about their behavior like other trainers I had asked for help. He taught us how important it was to teach them to be calm, before doing anything. That I needed to be calm for them to be calm. He explained things in a manner that could be remembered and understood. He listened to my concerns about using some harsher training methods and explained that every dog is different and we would find the best method that would work for my dogs. He was gentle with my 5month old boxer pup and she responded well to the training. Jeff is real nice but he is serious about training dogs . He knows what he is doing and he wants to teach you so you know also. As for price I'd say after shopping around he is in the middle range and after a few visits I think he is well worth it. My boxers and I have a long way to go but I see a difference. We have also put some work into it. He expects you to put some time in at home working with your dog/s as do almost all trainers , so if you fail to do so it's on you. But if you want a good trainer and your willing to put the time in Jeff is your man! And my Boxers love him my male follows him around and has his confidence back thanks to just a few pointers from Jeff. My frenchie would pull on the leash and basically drag me across the street, people would say "who's walking who?! " it was embarrassing and difficult to walk him. With Jeff's training my dog now walks on my left and even pays attention to my pace! A world of a difference! He would also run out the front door and jump out of groomer crate nearly injuring himself. Now he sits and waits for permission! I contacted Jeff to help me train a recently adopted a medium size dog whom I hoped to be a friend and playmate for my standard Golden Doodle. The new little dog is a terrier, a breed with which I had no experience or knowledge. (uh-oh!). He is very different from the Golden Retrievers and Golden Doodles I've had, and it soon became obvious that this would not be a smooth transition. The terrier was a sweet boy most of the time, but very active and assertive, and opinionated about everything. He wasn't aggressive, yet, but I was afraid things could go that way. I wanted Jeff to fix him for me (LOL). Jeff was here for a while and was able to accurately read both dogs (what a great talent!). He told me he would work with me on the terrier's problems, but it would take a lot of work and a lot of time. Meanwhile, I saw the chaos getting worse between the dogs and decided to return the terrier to the shelter. I feel really bad about having to do that, but I think it was for the best. Neither dog was going to like the situation as it was and it was making me very uncomfortable. So when things settle down a little, I'll have Jeff come back to help me with Jasper, my doodle, who I think is perfect, but Jeff disagrees. I'm sure right. I highly recommend Jeff as a dog trainer for your puppy or dog. I got my beagle puppy at 7 weeks and I could tell right away that she was not going to be like my passed beagles. This beagle was mouthy and liked to play rough. I kid you not, I had scratch and bite marks all up and down my arms, and I had little bite marks on many of my shirts. I even confessed to Jeff that I had been wearing the same jeans for a while so that she would not tear up all of my clothes. She did not like being on a leash and would bite and scratch at every opportunity. I was in desperate need of help and felt like I was at my breaking point. I was afraid to take her out until she had had all of her shots so I decided to turn to YouTube for help. I was so confused. There were so many different methods out there. I decided to wait until she was 16 weeks and fully vaccinated to contact Jeff after reading all of his reviews. I contacted a few people, but Jeff made me feel comfortable on the phone. I found out later, that he could have trained her starting right when I got her. I wish I had known that so that I could have avoided all of the bad habits and YouTube confusion and perhaps would never have gotten so overwhelmed by her naughty behaviors. Jeff taught me how to talk to my dog through the leash. He taught me using some small "pops" at the appropriate time to teach my dog what it is that I want and what I expect from her. He asked me to get some equipment for her that would aid in training her. I was lucky that I had already crate- trained my dog, but he showed me how to use the crate more effectively to help me out so that I didn't feel the need to constantly be overwhelmed by my little bundle of joy. He also asked us to get a correction collar and an electric collar and taught me how to use it appropriately to communicate and set boundaries for my dog. I was weary of the electric, but I tested it on my hand and it was not strong and we always used it on a very small setting. We practiced our homework and went to every session. If I could convey how I felt on the first session when I was almost in tears for how poorly behaved my dog was, to the last session when my dog was ready to go on a camping trip hiking and eating out in public with us, I would say to you that you can put your trust in Jeff. You have to put in the time yourself as well. You cannot expect him to do the work for you, you need to do the time with your dog, but it will be well worth it. Speaking of worth it, I was a little sticker shocked when I heard the cost, but I am so glad I took a chance because my dog is so changed. She still has the same spunky personality that I love, but she is a calmer dog. When we completed our training, the very next weekend we went up to Big Bear on a planned family vacation and took her along. I got so many compliments on what a well behaved do I have and how well mannered she is. It made me feel like a proud mama. Thanks for all of your help Jeff! I adopted a Husky in November and didn't realize what I had gotten into. I work random, long hours, and I tried to leave him alone just for 2 hours one day and he destroyed the house. He jumped a tall dog gate, breaking mugs, cutting his paw, peeing and pooping in the house, managing to get a bag full of chocolate 6 feet up on a shelf, and the list goes on. Jeff has been great in training our 16-month-old Lab/German Shepherd mix. He's professional, patient, explains everything so you are aware of what needs to be done correctly, the first time. I was being pulled down the street rather than going for a walk. She has calmed waaaay down and is so easy to walk now. Barking is no longer an issue either. Jeff was absolutely amazing with my Husky . I reached out to Jeff after my husky puppy at time four months old was having difficulty being in crate , stubborn to train , still having difficulty finding that outside was his restroom and having out of control behavior . Jeff was incredible. I now have a husky who is nine months cAlm in the house, walks amazing on a leash , has no issues with his crate , and has not had accident . Jeff is awesome. He really understands dog behavior and has the ability to apply a number of training techniques to achieve your training goals. My pup was a rambunctious 10 week old puppy when we met, and the progress we've made is remarkable. I needed help with pretty much everything, but really wanted to focus on biting, walking and potty training. Within four weeks, my dog has learned bite control, walks like a champ on a leash, and hasn't had an accident inside in a few weeks. Everyone tells me how well behaved she is for her age (14 weeks). He is punctual and very generous with his time. Every session that we've had has gone well over the hour allotted. Our family of 7 had issues when it came to our 9 month husky weighing 80 pounds. Our dog, Armani is very energetic and loves attention, so much that she would continuously jump on anyone who would enter the yard or her kennel. The jumping would soon lead to an aggressive dog who would rap her arms around us and begin nibbling, biting, scratching and everything in between. We struggled to even put a leash on her, as she would nearly attack us for it. To allow her out of the kennel we would have to rush into the house in fear of her attacking. Walking was out of the picture at that point because we would only be able to get her down the street and she would lay down and refuse to continue. . Her behavior became a big issue as we weren't really able to enjoy our dog as we liked, so we decided to finally do something. We hired a trainer who only lasted 15 minutes in the first session and told us she was sorry but there was nothing she can do to help. Minutes after that Jeff was contacted and the very next day we met up, 4 days later we started training. Armani threw big fits on her first day with Jeff, by the second session we weren't able to put her in her crate to get her to class and with no problem, Jeff came over and helped us out. At about her third session with Jeff she was entering the crate any time she saw the door open and wont leave it until we ask her to, she even learned to jump off the truck (something she was terrified of doing). Armani now enjoys walks on a loose leash by our side. Not only has Jeff helped us out with our dogs behavioral  issues but he's made it so much easier to control her. About a year ago I contacted Jeff to help me train my 4 month old beagle mix. He was very prompt in returning my call and setting up our first session, and assured me that he always worked with people with complicated work schedules , that is why I decided he was a good fit. That and all the great reviews on Yelp. However my experience with him was very different. I am angry at myself for not having seen the signs at our first meeting, when on of his dogs ran after my puppy and Jeff had to use his correction collar to get his dog back and then scolded me for freaking out, when my puppy was yelping after his large dog was chasing him and knocking him over. I thought it was just an unfortunate event , and handed over cash for 8 sessions. He wanted to meet on the same time and day every week, and lecture me about being consistent when I had initially told him that my work schedule was different every week. Then when I would make a change at work to make the sessions he would make last minute cancellations. Sometimes saying it was health problems, other days saying that the park was to crowded and it would not be a good learning environment for my dog. On one of the sessions I took my nephew , who would watch my puppy on my work days and Jeff got upset and told him to go sit somewhere else because he was a distraction. As for his training methods, they really did not work for my fearful dog. In fact I left one session in tears when he demonstrated the forceful down command and my puppy was yelping and crying , so much that I noticed people around us look in horror. Soon after I started our sessions I noticed my dog would growl when handled near his crate, I felt that this was brought on by fear, since we had been doing crate work with Jeff. I decided not to return after three sessions, didn't even try to get my money back because I just didn't want to deal with him. I was able to correct my dogs walks with a front clip harness , he quickly learned down with treats , and all of his other issues where just part of him being a rambunctious puppy, which he has mostly grown out of. I did not previously post a review because I thought maybe my experience was a one time thing since he seemed to be dealing with some personal issues, however after having seen some recent reviews I think people should be informed before handing over money to someone who is not what he advertised himself to be. read more

All I can say is well worth the investment. I have a young energetic beagle pup (6 months) that I took to Jeff because I could not find his off button. With the guidance of Jeff's training methods and a lot, a lot of walks I have to say that the off switch is now somewhat programmed in my dog. He was chewing up everything, nipping at my kids and visitors and was pottying in the house. Now he is pottying outside on a regular, he is getting pretty good at being inside his crate without whimpering all day, walks right beside me when we are on our walks and will sit when I stop, listens to commands and the nipping is almost non existent. Jeff is very knowledgeable when it comes to dogs. I think he realized that mine was a handful but he took the time to go over everything with patience and reinforced things over and over until I understood and was following through correctly. You definitely need to buy in to Jeff's methods and need to consistently put work in to see the results. I started realizing the changes in my dog by about the 5th or 6th lessons. After that, it all started coming together. I can now say that my little terror is more controlled and is starting to become a joy to be around.
