let me just start with my dog is part demon part shiba inu. He doesn't get along well with dogs and always pulled when walking. Positive Treat Reinforcement didn't work with him. We recently adopted a Pitbull Husky puppy and was nervous since we didn't know her history. She also was quite strong and pretty much walked me. With just 1 lesson, Jojo taught us the right way to walk the pups and it's made a world of difference. Before we had to coordinate walks with 2 people separately but now only 1 of us can control them both. After the second session, our dogs are able to be in the same room without killing each other. JoJo is a treasure. My wife and I learned so much when dealing with our 5 year old spaniel mix Khoa. Khoa exhibits signs of aggression around other dogs and also pulls while on the leash. Even after the first lesson we were able to control her aggression and pulling. Khoa is still a work in progress, but she is doing very well. My husband and I hired JoJo to help us with our 6 year old Lab Maui. Ever since we moved she has been dog aggressive. It is so stressful for me to even take her for walks because as soon and she sees a dog or if a dog barks in the window of a house she tries to go after the dog. Not sure where to even start about this service. Jojo has been with us for a couple years and my husband and I would be completely lost dog owners without her...and have one miserable dog. The pack walks are a life saver-for our dog and for us. Trots has walked our dog at least once a week for these couple years and I wouldn't trust anyone else to do it. The packs are carefully managed and provide much needed interaction with other dogs and exercise. The trainings have been beyond helpful! We've scheduled three trainings over the couple years and each time we are provided with one on one attention to address any and all issues. Each time were given tools and techniques to continue and practice, each time we see improvement right away that continues as we change the way we deal with situations. Lisa nailed the dogs' basic personalities pretty quickly and was especially good with my "back of the pack" dog. I liked how she quickly understood the dogs' temperament, and was thus able to understand how to interact with them and to clearly explain it to me. I have an un-neutered purebreed, and I did think it was unprofessional of her to assertively state early on that it was the law in Long Beach that dogs had to be neutered by six months. There are exemptions to this rule, and she CLEARLY didn't know them but acted QUITE confident that she did. My dog fits one of the exemptions. She also argued with me about it - again, unprofessional but typical of America today where many, many people want to tell other people how to live their lives in areas they consider themselves knowledgeable about. It would have been fine if she said, "Some of the behaviors would improve if you neutered your dog, but of course that's your choice. I can work with your dog either way." THAT'S what a truly confident person sounds like: respectful that other people (surprise!) are NOT you and thus make different decisions based on criteria that are (surprise!) not yours. I did like her as a trainer but not as a human being. If she doesn't know the law, she shouldn't pretend she does. Once she accepted that she was there to help me train my dogs and not lecture me on neutering my dog, the lesson went better, and I don't regret spending the money. She explained some things about my dogs' psychology that were very helpful. EDIT: I see on the website that Lisa comes from rescue. Over the years I've adopted 6 dogs, 5 from rescue. Some of the people in rescue are wonderful in terms of what they do for the dogs, but get a little weird as people. They don't know how to appropriately talk to others about issues they feel strongly about. If your dog is not altered, you definitely should not use this trainer -- she starts out quite unpleasant. read more

I am so glad we worked with JoJo. I found Trots Dog Walking here on Yelp and decided to give it a try and set up a session with JoJo. I have a rescue dog who is aggressive around other people and super aggressive around other dogs. It got to the point where I developed a very high level of anxiety when taking her for a walk, let alone encountering another dog. This is my first Yelp review ever. JoJo is amazing and wished I have gone to her sooner!! I've been through 3 trainers for my two dogs (Lab Mix and German Shepherd Mix). My goals of walking both on a leash with distractions of other dogs and people were finally met with JoJo. She taught me how to be a better pack leader first off. I'm so glad we chose Trots Dog Walking and Training to help us with our Lab mix Max. He is a great dog but we needed some guidance in a few areas. Sure, I've seen the Dog Whisperer a million times and read his website for tips etc. but having someone explain and demonstrate in person how to exhibit calm, assertive energy is a whole different ball game. We contacted JoJo and requested the 2 training sessions at our house. Just in one session, we learned so much. Max can be very difficult to walk and likes to pull. JoJo demonstrated walking him with the 'no pull training lead' which you can gently wrap around their snout- WOW what a difference!! She also taught us to be more patient with leading up to the walk or the car ride- stopping at each step if necessary and waiting for him to calm down- we now see a HUGE difference in our routine and his energy. We rescued our dog Homer from a horder situation in Mexico and he was a mess when we got him. He didn't like humans, he didn't like other dogs, he was very upset when people came to visit the house, he didn't like leaving the house and he insisted on doing his dirty business on the porch. Walks were a nightmare - for him, he was so scared. He especially hated dog trainers in an aggressive fashion - we went through 3 before we were referred to Jojo. She took Homer in for 2+ weeks, worked with him, and when we picked him up he was a different dog. Flash forward to 6 months later and Homer is just a regular normal dog - great with random humans, all other dogs, and does his business outside now. My dog and I recently joined the free pack walks and I love them! My dog was never able to pass another dog during walks without being reactive and wanting to charge and now after just one of the pack walks he is a lot better and is able to walk with the dogs and shows more improvement every time. From right when we showed up to the calm peaceful circle a couple minutes late with our extremely excited and unusually vocal 2 year old bulldog, Jojo made us feel very welcome. It didn't appear to be anyone else's first pack walk class, but everyone seemed very understanding when Jojo had to give us some extra attention. Within minutes she had Biscuit calm and attentive.
