Crappy experience with this tire shop. Needed back tires on my car so I called on Tuesday asking if…read moreI could bring it in on Thursday. $310 a tire, little higher than I'm used to but this shop is local to me so I wanted to use them and support the local businesses. The guy said no problem bring it in the morning, pick it up at 5. Whole day for 2 tires? But I was working half a day so I asked him if I could bring it in at 12, he said that's fine. He said he'd work with me, hence the extra star. Dropped the car off at 12:30, cops did a fake tag enforcement on the Whitestone so I was late because of the traffic. Guy said it's fine, leave the keys and return at 5PM to pick it up. About 4:20 I receive a call from Ryan telling me they couldn't manage to get to my car. That it wouldn't be ready. I told him that was f****** awful service. He replied well I could say you dropped it off at 12:30 and it's also hot outside, we booked 40 appointments...couldn't get to you. Then why not tell me that when I dropped the car off? Or before? Then he asked should I return the tires, you don't want them anymore correct? I didn't reply to that because it was a ridiculous question, what do I care? I cared about getting my rear tires done but they don't seem to care about that, I'm supposed to care what they do with the tires now? Really? Bit of a joke that convo was but I didn't find it funny, Especially now that I have to take a roadtrip for the holiday without the peace of mind I was excepting to have. Not the end of the world I guess but this was my experience at Yorktown Tire Auto Care.

When the tires registered 34-34-34-2 I knew I had a serious problem and I'm very fortunate I made it there. Geoff was kind enough to push me in quickly despite being at capacity. Brakes made a funny noise they'd never heard before but ultimately it wasn't their fault, tires wound up having a manufacturing defect so not their fault either, and alignment they redid but the steering wheel was still off center while driving. So big picture - nothing out of this world in terms of expectations of their abilities to fix.) Instead, they call and tell me "It's not a good fit working with you." This is work they originally did, that I even offered to pay for it to be checked again, and they're now telling me "We're not working with you anymore. Find someone else." I would stay away from any mechanic that doesn't stand by the work they do.

I'd meant to come in earlier for an inspection after being told a good time to walk in but arrived 2 hours later just to see if I could knock out that task of the day and they took me almost right away and it was quick and painless. The person doing the inspection was polite and the pricing was typical for a NY inspection.

The car had to be towed to a dealership where an inspection found no oil in the engine block, the result of the Gulf station improperly installing the new air filter. The catastrophic oil leak required an expensive engine replacement. Even after learning of our experience, and knowing that we were without our family car due to his shop's obvious negligence, the owner then refused to cover the costs following his insurance carrier's denial of his claim. And his insurance company just told me that he did not have active coverage because he has been failing to make regular payments. That forced us to involve our own insurance in order to cover the $15k-plus worth of work. We just got it back, nearly a month after it broke down.
