Today I was here at A-1 Upland Recycling Center with my Mom to recycle her 1998 Toyota Sienna van. It's been long over due like over 1 year over due. Finally, it's done. My first time witnessing the process... the tow truck guy pulled up onto the scale to get both the tow truck and van weighed. Then he unloaded the van and drove back onto the scale to get his tow truck only weighed. This process provides the before and after weights to determine the van's weight. Pretty easy system! Afterwards, my Mom and I got in line, gave the staff the signed pink slip, they gave my Mom the receipt to sign, and lastly, they gave us a copy of the receipt stamped PAID, and the moola. Btw, it's $0.05 per lb (subject to change). Hence, $100 per ton (1 ton = 2,000 lbs) if I did the math right LOL. It was an interesting experience. Staff was wonderful and helpful. First time doing a recycling, so I can't compare it to other places, but based on my experience, it's a good place. 1) Recycle all types of stuff. 2) you will need to separate different types in different basket, so that they can weight it. 3) bring ID to show to the cashier to receive the cash. Process is easy, and I came on a weekday afternoon, I just waited for 10 mins in the line, and there are enough parking space. The staff here is friendly too. The space does have smell and not that clean, so I recommend to wear mask and gloves. read more

I recycled some scrap aluminum today and was told anything over $20 has a 3 day hold. It wouldn't really be a problem but by the time I get off of work, the center is closed. This makes it very inconvenient to collect my money. Other than that they staff was friendly and helpful. read more

Service is poor here, they added a contamination fee for a couple of drops that came out of my cans and bottles. The fee was 8% even though victor who seems to be the manager said it was supposed to be 5%. I've been coming here for months and this has never happened, he explained to me that it's because the guys working were new and they were training them. That it's not them, it's because they're being watched through a little window. He said it it was up to him he wouldn't even do it and that they don't get anything out of it, but if that was the case why would you charge the fee?? I'll take my recyclables elsewhere. read more

Love this place! They have a nice facility that's well organized and kept up with. The layout of the parking lanes give you lots of room to work and make it easy to unload your recyclables. They are also super helpful here, if you have one too many baskets to carry by yourself, one of the employees will gladly offer to carry a basket or two to the weigh station for you. Today, I came in close to closing time and two gentlemen offered their help with unloading my recyclables into the bins because I had a whole truck bed full of cans and bottles that needed to be sorted in which was going to take just myself a while, so they assisted in speeding things along! Do not bring copper here! They reel you in with great copper prices but have every excuse in the world as to why they can't give you that price. Been coming here for over a year bringing miscellaneous copper, insulated wire, etc. At first they were very honest and gave the prices listed. However, month after month, they started giving excuses as to why they couldn't honor the listed price anymore. My last visit here a colleague and I brought in the same copper wire at different times and we were given two separate prices, both not what was listed on their board (up to $.60 less than listed). We also noticed that the containers to fill up your material with were marked one weight and the inputted container weight into the final count was different as well. The location is also very dirty, there is very little parking, and the employees offer no assistance separating the recyclable material and if you do not separate it correctly they find the material that would be the lowest price on their board and mark the whole container as that price. Do not recommend, there are plenty of other recycling locations that are much more honest and will give you your true moneys worth for recyclable material. read more

Came here during the week around 2 or 3pm . I had a few jumbo sized trash bags 2 with aluminum cans and 1 with water bottles separated. The whole process was super fast and easy . I was in and out within 10 / 15 mins max and i made just about $26.00. :) They have good prices and if you go to their website they have monthly coupons! You just have to say the keyword before they weigh your items for it to be valid. I like that they have integrity and honor their coupons. I called some other spots that advertised coupons on ther website and they said they were invalid. Would def recommend this place ! read more

Waiting to hear from the supervisor, emailed 2/20/23. Early afternoon 2/20/23, we were berated by one of your employees over recycling materials. This gentleman is approximately in his late 40's and was driving the forklift. He proclaimed he is the employee that receives the recycling material. First incident was he almost backed the forklift into my truck, but we quickly pivoted away before he was aware of the situation. Then while we were unloading cardboard materials in the designated area we were advised to do, your employee confronted us and started stating to take our trash elsewhere. As we tried to figure out what he was implying he started throwing the packaging material on to the floor saying it is all trash. He then proceeded to block our vehicle stating he was not going to let us leave until we grabbed the boxes and left. The unfortunate part about this was it was just a misunderstanding, we were under the impression that the recycling packing material could go with the recycling boxes. Instead we got berated, cussed at, and held hostage. He continued to talk at us and continued causing issues after we were already packed up to leave. We contemplated connecting with the authorities as we have the whole incident on video, however, we felt we would reach out to the supervisor. As a business owner, I would appreciate someone telling me if one of my employees was treating clients/patrons in that completely unnecessarily disrespectful way. Compared to the recycling center near my house (monterey park), this one is ten times better!!! Santiago explained it very well! All you do is: 1) park in the designated parking spots, 2) get your rolling baskets (lots of signs telling you what items go in which basket), 3) fill your baskets with your recyclables, 4) wait in line to get them weighed, 5) get your receipt, 6) take receipt to the cashier to get your CASH! It's easy and painless, so everyone please recycle! I wish there was a place as easy as this one near my house. I only went to this recycling center because I was playing tennis at the Upland Tennis Club that day, so I thought I'd see if there was less of a line than the one close to my house, which there was and A-1 is ten times as big too!
