It was after 7pm and my car wouldn't start. I called A-1 towing and he asked what was wrong with my car. I told him my car wouldn't start but all the lights come on and I can open and close the doors with my key fob. He told me he was finishing up a job and would be there in 30-45 minutes and then he quoted a price. He arrived l less than 45 minutes later and asked for my key. Logan was able to start my car with the key fob and explained he used the fob to push the start button. He explained that sometimes the fob battery is low and that's the best way to start the car. Logan also suggested I take the car in just it case it was something else. When I went to pay him, he said he didn't do anything; he just started my car so there was no charge. Logan was very kind. The things that impressed me most were: 1. Logan gave me a time frame and stuck to it. 2. He quoted a price before he hung up. 3. Logan checked my car out first to see if he could make it run without towing it 4. He didn't charge me for coming out to look at my car 5. He was very professional. 6. Don't trust these guys. Totally rude and disrespectful. Called me about an hour ago after Geico put in the request for a tow and he claimed my vehicle needed collision work. I told him a few times this was not the case. He said he'll be over here in 15 minutes. I came downstairs and was waiting for him. He didn't even call me or ring my doorbell, he just briefly knocked. He didn't even give me 45 seconds to come to the door (I'm looking at the time stamp of the Ring video between when he knocked on the door, and when I answered. Literally less than 45 seconds). Me being cordial and kind and saying hello, stepping out, he saw me in my driveway and yet he pulled out and started driving away. I thought he didn't see me or something and went out in the middle of the street jumping up and down doing jumping jacks trying to flail this guy down. Totally embarrassed myself! Pioneer Auto is waiting for my vehicle to be dropped off by this guy. I called his number 2x and texted it. Both went unreturned. Called another one of A-1's numbers. Went unanswered as well. Called off a different number and they answered immediately! Said that I have to call Geico back because "they waited for me" and that they cancelled the order and tow and I'd have to call back Geico again to request another one. Ridiculous. Have been on the phone for the last 30 minutes with Geico and about 2 hours dealing with this today. A-1 is the only contracted tower with Geico in the Oak Harbor area. Geico said they shouldn't have been here til 315 pm and he came at 254 pm. They said he had to wait for me until 315, give me a call or Geico one. I'm telling you it's all documented on Ring video. Not even a full minute between him knocking on the door, me coming out, and him driving away from my driveway. Not ok. Beyond petty, I did nothing to these people. And Geico said I need to document all of this, because guess what? The guy cancelled the tow but STILL got paid by Geico. Now my car is broken in my driveway without a tow, and I can't find someone to tow my vehicle til Monday! I did absolutely nothing rude or mean to these people and for them to do this and treat someone like this - for what? I told him I could barely hear him on the phone today when he had a bunch of people talking around him? That's the reason to act and behave like this? And now I have to do 2 reviews with Geico and on here? Totally petty, and a waste of time. I don't know why people in the Oak Harbor area are so beyond rude, unaccommodating, and just plain mean but I'm so sick of it. Lived in 10 states and this area is probably one of the meanest/ rudest in the country. Not ok. Now I'm upset, Geico is upset, and for what reason? Was he trying to scam us or just try to make our lives more difficult? If he didn't want the job or to deal with me for whatever reason he shouldn't have accepted it. Geico just tried to get them to come back and do the tow and he refused because 1.) he said I didn't come to the door when he knocked (not true based off of the Ring video - literally 45 seconds between him knocking and me coming out), 2.) he called me earlier and because Geico said my car had collision work he is refusing to take it allegedly and he is refusing to take any future jobs from Geico or me. Ridiculous. Hope karma does justice. Update: looks like he's done this many times based off the reviews on Yelp and Google! So I know it's not just a "me" issue! The auto body shop said this is how he is too and they don't recommend him. Just a shame! And he allegedly destroyed people's bikes and threw things in their yard throwing a temper tantrum for whatever reason. I came outside and both my trash cans were slammed to the ground and damaged which they've NEVER been in the 2 years living here. Either he hit them with the tow truck or threw them down! Now they're damaged! The garbage people would've NEVER allowed this nor would my neighbors! Every other trash can on the street was standing up straight! Both my regular trash can and recycling were thrown down by this man and it's caught on my neighbor's Ring camera as well! I'd like to file a report on this man. There is NO REASON whatsoever to behave like this or treat another human being like this! Especially someone that was nothing but kind and respectful to him to begin with! Absurd! I'd like to call the cops and report him because this is a common problem with him judging from the reviews. You don't destroy another person's property! Maybe it's a blessing he didn't get in my car and drive my car. But man. I understand he mate hate his life but no reason to take it out on other good people just trying to get help! read more

My insurance was looking to cover a tow 28 miles for $45. I had no idea that was the reason they said they couldn't find a technician. After it was close to my appointment time at the dealership I called A1 out of desperate need. They said "you must be the one with the Kia, your insurance tried to pay us 1/3 of the price we charge." I was grateful they told me, the man even said he would pick it up in ten minutes. They showed up before I even could talk to my insurance and towed it away. The technician even recommended a way for me to be reimbursed next time. I'd gladly use them again, but hope I never have to! read more

Our car died on the side of the road and we called a local tow truck to come pick us up and drop the car off for repairs after waiting 45 minutes and not hearing from the driver we called A 1. They said they can make it to us in 30 minutes. We figured we already waited 45 minutes so we could wait 30 more. Well 10 minutes later A 1 shows up early and is ready to tow us! DO NOT USE THESE GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had my Subaru towed by A-1 towing out of Oak Harbor. They correctly brought a flatbed for an all-wheel drive car, so there is the reason for giving them 1 star. They broke the rear glass while transporting it and claim no responsibility for doing so. They admit that the glass was broken while the vehicle was in transport, but say that it was from a heavy part that was inside the car jumping up and hitting the rear glass while they were going over railroad tracks. #1. And most importantly. They had the car tied down incorrectly. I saw them do this, but I don't like stepping in and telling people how to do their jobs. On the old Subaru, i wasn't too worried about it. If they would have done it this way with one of my other cars that i really care about, then I would have stopped them. This is what I get for not stepping in and telling the guy how to do his job. A vehicle being carried on a flatbed must I REPEAT, MUST be secured by the tires. This allows the suspension to continue to do its job of isolating the rest of the vehicle from the bumps in the road (or bumps from the flatbed in this case, which bounces MUCH more than your vehicle is designed for). How they had the vehicle secured was by the winch on the front lower control arms and chains at the rear going to the tow anchors on the body. The car was cinched down so tightly that the rear suspension was completely collapsed. This makes it so that every bounce and bump that the flatbed see's is directly transferred into the vehicle. This is the incorrect way to tow a vehicle on a flatbed. There is a tremendous amount of energy transferred directly into the vehicle being towed in this manner. #2. When I called and asked about the broken glass, the "supervisor" was very short, condescending, and rude to me about the questions that I had. "I've been towing cars since I was 19 years old" was his response... Well buddy, you have been doing it wrong for a long time and getting lucky then. Math and physics don't lie! Also, the part in the back of the car is about 200lbs, and the rear glass is 16'' above the floor of the car. That means that they would have had to have jumped something causing enough force to get 200lbs to fly over 16'' in the air in order for their story to make sense. which is entirely possible only because of how they had the vehicle tied directly to the flatbed. In order to duplicate this kind of vertical force in a vehicle. you have to hit a speed bump at about 60 mph! Furthermore, how can a tow truck driver tell what is going on in the back of the vehicle that they are towing? Someone's coffee gets spilled in their car when you are towing it, big deal. they can clean it up. but when you get a 200 lb object 16'' off the floor of the car and smash a window with it, You were clearly doing something incorrectly. These guys don't know how to correctly tow a vehicle, they know nothing about physics, and have no intention of learning anything to do their job better. Stereotypical, uneducated, rude, tow truck ass holes. Only use these guys if you don't care about your car and are willing to accept liability for their mistakes. read more
