Used this company when we moved in 6 years ago and was very happy. Called again last year for pumping, and they had no record of servicing my house. Apparently owners of company split and they no longer had records (i still have invoice). This week i had an emergency with my septic and have called numerous times and left multiple voice mails, all with no response. I even emailed and nothing. This is not an issue that can wait, so after 2 days of trying i reached out to a different company. I will no longer use A-1 again, and will be going with another company for all my future business. I find it very unprofessional to not return a phone call from an existing customer with an urgent issue. read more

As part of our closing on our new house the seller was contracted to do some work on the septic tank. Come closing day the work was never done, but the sellers agent and lawyer assured us they would get the work contracted through A-1 for a pre-determined amount that A-1 confirmed with the selling agent. Now we were a little skeptical already as the amount they determined was less than half of what the prior quote we had for the work was. We moved in back in September and have fought diligently to get this work completed. We followed up time and time again with the same answers each time. "I'll have to call you back", "I don't see the work order", "don't worry we'll get it done, we're just a little backed up". No one ever called back. No one ever showed up to do the work. No one could even give us a tentative date. We finally had to get our lawyer that helped us with the closing involved. We were adamant that we did not want our money back but wanted to work completed as they were the ones contracted to do so. Low and behold the funds set aside miraculously showed up on our doorstep after even the lawyers could not get in contact with the company. Worst yet, the company sub contracts the work for the particular service we needed, so it wasn't even them who needed to do it! The subcontractor confirmed they were never reached out to for a quote or to complete the work. This "company" is deplorable and I'm not sure how they stay in business when they can't even return a phone call or actually do the work. Save yourself the headache and find someone else. read more

First rate service and care. I would without question recommend A1 Septic to anyone looking for honest and quality work. They responded quickly and always kept me in the loop with the arrival time. Increadably fair prices and complete. We did not know where our tank was in the yard. They found our septic tank, dug down to the lid by hand, and pumped and cleaned our system. They were neat and clean, and they were truly concerned not to ruin our existing lawn. I find that level of service rare these days. Thank you. read more

I truly regret having to be the "fly in the ointment" amid all of these other great reviews, and have delayed writing this until I exhausted all options. A-1 Septic was referred to us in May 2019 by a highly reputable real estate agent. Dennis Carlson, the owner of A-1, came to our home to size up the job, and to follow up with a proposal. Dennis emailed us the proposal on 5/11/2019, and we returned it signed on 5/14/2019 without any edits. (The proposal was good for 120 days.) In that email with the signed contract, I commented that it "looks good," and asked when he would be able to get started. He responded the day after with "Right now, we are about two weeks out... I am going to draw up the proposed repairs and obtain a permit from the Town of Brookfield Health Department and coordinate a day in which they can come out for a final inspection and also perform the soil testing..." Unfortunately, that was the last we heard from Dennis Carlson, and it is now 9/3/2019...almost 4 months later. I tried many times to reach him on the cell number he left for me, and received no responses to my messages. His office returned my call only once to say there must have been a miscommunication, and that they would ask him to contact us. Never happened. Finally, I tried sending a fax to the number printed on his proposal letterhead, but the fax number has been disconnected (at least, as of this writing). I held off calling another company for a few reasons. a) I have high respect for the person who referred me; b) the proposal was already signed, and done so promptly; c) he may have been extraordinarily busy, and finally; d) I really liked Dennis. He was super-friendly. I gave him full benefit of the doubt, until today. read more

If you read most of the real reviews here, you will see this is no coincidence. Similar complaints. Mine is no different. I called for a septic inspection, they picked up the phone (for that) and scheduled me immediately. On the day of the inspection someone else (not A1 showed up. Ben something) charged me $450 for 15 minutes of work and said I needed replace a few boxes. Ok, no problem. As he walks away with my check, he calls back and says... oh yeah ask the home inspector (at the time doing a home inspection inside the house) to show you another issue with your water softener. Hmmm... I go back into the house and asked the home inspector to show me (he did) but he was pissed at the septic guy and said "this guy is supposed to come inside the house to do his inspection. Every time I work on the same day as them they are gone in 15 mins after collecting a check and I complete their work for them." Then he goes on to say "let me guess, he said you need to replace a few septic holding tanks right...? " I said yes. He rolled his eyes. I then called them back to understand what is going on. Why did I hire A1, yet no one A1 employee came out. I have no idea who this guy was or if I just got scammed. I called 11 times (literally) and spoke to Nick 4 of the 11 times. Each time he said he would pass along the message to Dennis the owner to call me back. I have not received 1 return call from them. I never write yelp reviews. Like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I also go out of my way to call managers on employees who do a great job. Danbury Best Buy has a wonderful employee there. Point being, Dennis seems to exhibit the traits of a "scammer/shady" type business and I suggest you avoid. Hope that helps. read more

I've used A-1 a few times now - twice for cleaning out the tank, and once for a septic survey I needed when we were putting our pool in. I've found both Dennis and his team (in the field and in the office) to be nothing short of great: responsive, knowledgeable, on time, on budget, on point. I see others' reviews here and can't refute their experience, but I can say that when it comes to all things septic, I call A-1 first and only. read more

Disappointing and beyond. We bought a new home - Ben did the inspection, Dennis did septic installation in November. When the yard thawed in March we observed NO topsoil where the job had occurred. Consequently, a large, dangerous, unsightly gulley developed in the yard. In addition, Large Chunks of broken ORIGINAL CLAY Septic and large rocks from the original dig were used to cover the new septic. These guys committed to a contract and were paid $18,500 for their work. The last 2 line items read : 11. The delivery and grading of additional topsoil 12. Final backfill grading, rake, seed and apply hay to all disturbed areas We reached out to get the top soil. Silence. We called cell phones of Dennis and Ben, the main office (where a grandma-like woman with kids in background) kept promising to "share the message." We texted. We emailed. Total and complete silence- For 2 weeks. We reached out to our realtor and by chance Ben picked up. He promised to drive out, take a look at property and call. No call. More silence. Our realtor again texted. Silence. We contacted our lawyer. We have 2 quotes from professional landscapers for topsoil - one at $3200 and one at $3800 to remedy the yard and complete the job they were paid to do. These guys are clowns and shysters. They presented as conscientious, and family/business-oriented but the did not complete the job, they wrecked our yard, they ignore contractual obligations and they dont answer their phones STAY AWAY. read more

They came out to inspect my new home's Septic System. They very quickly were able to determine that we had an issue and was able to narrow it down to a few areas. We found them to work quickly and were able to see the issues and fix them. They really did a great job. We highly recommend them for any inspection and septic services. read more

The people at the town health department said I should have my septic checked out and have a form filled out and put on file prior to selling the home because the septic was old. Called A1 and they came out to inspect it. Gave me a whole show about how it's imminently going to fail. Since they told me that, was legally required to put it in the home disclosures. Kept trying to push me to get a soil test they wanted to charge $200 more than everyone else for. Several potential buyers walked away since "septic at end of its useful life" had to be in disclosures. Eventually was gifted the money by family to replace the system to be able to sell my home - when I called to get the inspection report, A1 never sent it. Probably because they knew when other companies came to bid they would look absurd. Three other companies came to give me quotes and asked why I was replacing the system if it hadn't failed yet. One guy said A1 would have had to have a CRYSTAL BALL to predict its failure. Bottom line: A1 cost my retired parents on a fixed budget $20,000 due to greed. Bet your ass I never let them bid on the job. House still hasn't sold because this process has taken so long. I was selling my home to begin with because I'm about to be laid off. Dennis from A-1 is top notch. I called him on a Sunday with an emergency septic clog. He called me back within 30 minutes and was there that day. Customer service is beyond excellent. Dennis actually did our home inspection as well and was extremely thorough and knowledgeable. I just personally thanked our real estate for making the introduction to A-1. They are the only company we will call with any septic issues in the future. read more

Dennis did our inspection, found a defective tank, and did the replacement after we closed. The installation was tricky given our property but he got it done. He is very responsive and knowledgeable. I give him the highest possible recommendation. read more

If I was able to give a zero rating I would! I used to use this company faithfully for at least a decade until they horribly dropped the ball! Our community requires that our septic tanks be emptied every 2 years or we will be fined $500. I had scheduled an appointment with A1 for October 5th of 2014 that was confirmed by the company. I had gotten concerned that I never received an invoice from them after a couple of months, so I called them to find out what had happened so I could pay for their services. I never received a call back from them. Since I still hadn't heard from them in a week I tried again with the same disappointing results. After several more tries to get in touch with A1, leaving messages each time, I FINALLY got in touch with them and was shocked to hear what they told me (after 3 months of waiting for ANY kind of response from them and now into the new year)! Without any reason why, they stated that they did not pump out our septic tank and they were not going to either! Now since THEY didn't hold up THEIR end of the contract, I will be fined the $500! When I tried to explained this to the company, they shrugged me off and said that it was the the decision was made by the OWNER of the company not to pump with no other reasons why AND NO care about the fine I am going to receive. I asked to speak with the owner (Mike) and the receptionist said that she would pass the message on to him, which I later found was a complete lie. Again after waiting for 2 weeks with no response, I called again and again I was snubbed by the receptionist! It is now almost March and after over 30 calls and messages left to A1, I STILL haven't received any kind of explanation as to why nothing was done. Obviously this company has NO REGARD for their customers, or the fact that because of their lack of upholding their end of the contract, a repeat and (now formerly) loyal customer will be fined! If they don't care about loyal customers, I can't imagine what they think about or handle new customers WATCH OUT and make SURE that they actually DO the job that they contract to do! I hope that no one else has to go through what I have had to, not only the financial issue but the hassles and frustration too. If you do, make sure that you also post your disappointing results here. Don't let it go thinking that you won't be heard or that your one voice won't make a difference. It will! Your one voice in combination with all of the others will become a loud yell! That yell will be saying: STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! read more
