Warning to my Neighbors:…read more This is about Steve's Automotive. I've been taking my vehicles to this shop for years. I am a loyal customer. I have referred a few dozens of folks to this shop. I am very proactive and always keep my vehicles maintained and serviced on time. My father was a automotive mechanic for 40 years and I grew up in his shop. I know how the job is done properly. I've done the same job a few dozen times. I don't have time due to work so I pay you guys to do it. I'm not sure what has happen in the last year, but this shop is awful now. Very unprofessional, dishonest, negligent, and unwilling to repair their mistakes. The car was un drivable due to their mistakes after taking it back multiple times. Wow I guess they can't figure out how to drain and fill the rear diff on a nissan Xterra with out it leaking. How could a customer not lose confidence after bringing it back 3 times and then they refuse to fix their mistakes and say your no longer a customer. I will have the nissan dealer inspect the vehicle and send them the bill due to their blatant negligence. I will also be reporting them to the BBB. I sincerely do not recommend this shop for these reasons.

Balancing operation maybe needs more attention. i had to go in a 2nd time, with manager supervising and caught 3 places where rim was bent. Rim repaired and it does ride 100 better. Service manager kept open communication and was notified of delay due to a techs family emergency. A total of 4 days not including the weekend.

If I could give Budget Radiator and Automotive 10 stars, I absolutely would!…read more We were in Springfield from St. Charles for my daughter's MCDA Honors Choir workshops and concert when our 2015 Honda Odyssey suddenly started flashing warning lights on the highway--FCW, LDW, a flashing Drive indicator, and the check engine light. We were only about 7 miles out from our hotel, but we were worried we might be looking at a transmission replacement as it seemed like the transmission went "limp" and wouldn't change gears while driving! The team at Budget Radiator and Automotive got us in quickly, took the time to thoroughly diagnose the problem, and didn't jump to conclusions or try to sell us unnecessary repairs. They found that the alternator had failed, but they didn't stop there. During the repair they discovered the serpentine belt and tensioner were also failing because the belt kept slipping off. They explained everything clearly, showed us what was happening, and made sure the repair was done correctly. After replacing the alternator, serpentine belt, and tensioner, they checked the transmission fluid at my request, (which looked great), then test drove the van for about 20 miles to make sure everything was working properly before calling us. That's the kind of attention to detail and professionalism every customer hopes for. The van now runs beautifully, all of the warning lights are gone, and we have complete confidence driving it home. When you're traveling and your vehicle breaks down hundreds of miles from home, you're putting a lot of trust in a repair shop you've never met. Budget Radiator and Automotive earned that trust from the moment we walked in. They were honest, knowledgeable, thorough, and genuinely cared about getting us safely back on the road--not just fixing a car. Joe told me my vehicle 100% needed a new motor due to a symptom he found in my engine and that the…read morevehicle was worth maybe $1000 if I wanted to sell it without repairing it. I expected and planned to be out of pocket at least $5,000 and was really upset about it. I spent the money for all the parts Joe said I needed and it burnt a pretty big hole in my wallet. I then took it to Chevrolet in Springfield the very next day and they did an inspection of the motor and found the same symptoms as well. They then took my motor apart and told me to look at it with them. The head gaskets, timing chain, head bolts, and valve cover gaskets that Joe told me I needed to replace were 100% fine and needed no reason to repair. All it needed was a new thermostat housing and coolant leak to attend to. I don't believe EMS physically looked at anything in my motor and just gave me a quote for a new motor after finding one symptom that could realistically mean a lot of things that could be wrong. I ended up only paying under $500 for the repairs and the car had zero problems after the repairs and I ended up selling it for much more profit then what I bought it for. I wouldn't have a problem with any of this if Joe just took the time to physically look into the problem instead of just telling me that I needed a new motor after finding one thing wrong and then just stopped looking in to it. I just feel like they tried to cheat me in giving them $3,000 to order a new motor and pay the $2,000 in labor when all I needed was just a thermostat. I won't be taking any of my vehicles to Joe anymore. He's a very friendly man but only did half the job.
