After a squirrel passed on underneath our aging deck, A1 came out to take a look to dispose of it. That being said, this deck was very old and after chatting with the owner, we made a decision to replace the deck with pavers. This team went about and beyond our expectations. We had them expand our driveway, our back patio and add a walkway, as well as build a dog run.. they started our job during a heatwave, and by the time they finished, they were dealing with poor air quality. But it didn't slow them down in the least. They were on time, worked hard and we are SO very happy with the work we did. Im already trying to find another job for them to do. They were so polite, patient (because I had ALOT of questions and concerns), and meticulous. Hands down A1 will be our go to for all things construction. Not only were they communicative and a breeze to work with, they were also competitively priced. It is so very clear that they take pride in their work. Mark Simmons is the former owner of Hoovers Restaurant and also the owner of A-1 Concrete and A-1 Pest Company. We hired Mark Simmons, Felipe, and crew from A-1 Concrete in Atascadero to pour a 70 foot retaining wall for us June 2023. We paid $9000 and the job is still not complete. Repeated attempts to reach out have been ignored by Mark. Photos tell all. Look at the holes in the cement wall (compromised) and showing the exposed rebar. See the oozing cement along the front wall? Please Mark, stop ignoring our calls and come back to finish the job you were paid to do. As a result of your poor work, the following need to be addressed. Patch the cracks, fill large deep holes, seal the back side and grind down the oozing cement. The wall also needs the drain installed and back filled. Still waiting .... a promise made should be kept. Sad to make someone one else do your repairs and force owner to pay twice. read more

Mark and all the employees at A-1 Concrete are very professional. We had them put in a new concrete pad in our barn which originally was put on top of DG by the original owner. They did an amazing job of jacking the whole barn up to do the job properly. Since they accomplished that so well, we had them put in pavers and a new stacked wall in our backyard! We hired Mark Simmons and his crew to install two concrete pads on our Atascadero property. A 24x16 under a recently built pergola and a 12x12 in front of our shop. From initial contact to project completion Mark was quick to respond and a great communicator. Larry, the onsite foreman was friendly, helpful, and on time over the two days it took to complete. Prior to the pour, he let us know what to expect and also went over his ideas for joint placements so it looked nice under our pergola. We hired Mark Simmons and his Crew to install a concrete retaining wall and patio in our backyard in April, 2016 and it has been a complete nightmare. The retaining wall is structurally unsound and has developed significant cracks (all concrete cracks, but less than a month after installation, you can fit a quarter in the cracks of our wall). When they were installing the concrete, the crew blocked the excavator in with the new patio and the operator demolished the side of our yard to get it out. This caused extensive damage to our yard. And, to add insult to injury, the building inspector for the City of Atascadero has now informed us that A-1 Concrete failed to obtain the proper building permits and that the work will not pass code because it is so subpar. Now we must rip everything out and start all over again. The cost is astronomical. We have paid for over 80% of the job and Mark Simmons refuses to give us our money back or to work with us to find a resolution. We have reported him and A-1 Concrete to the Contractors State Licensing Board and they are currently under investigation. Do yourself a favor and hire a Contractor of a higher caliber so you don't have to lose a ton of money and time like we have. read more

A-1 did the demo and new concrete for a complete remodel. They took months longer than they quoted and kept blaming the weather. When it was raining they would come out and make mud and when it was nice out, they were busy elsewhere. The formed the whole thing crooked, which made framing the house later a nightmare. The concrete cracked as soon as it dried and the surface was uneven and very wavy. I would not recommend A-1 for anything but a concrete step in the garden. They do not know what they are doing, overcharge and make excuses when it's their fault. The pumper truck leaked oil and diesel all over my street, sprayed my neighbors car with concrete and I had to ask for them to clean the car, for which they charged me hours. They actually charged me extra for their mistakes! Do yourself a favor and don't go with Mark and his low bid. read more

A1-Concrete of Atascadero completed a full driveway removal and replacement for me in early Spring 2022. The owner, Mark, was easy to reach by phone, got back to me promptly, and was on site to give me an estimate the same day I called him. He explained what was included in the work, and everything that I was going to ask for, was already covered, including reinforcement set up on Dobies, no concrete washout on site, and thickened edges. He said it would be 5-8 weeks until he could get to my project, and it was just about 5 weeks when he called and scheduled the work. He was happy to adjust the pour schedule to avoid trash pickup day on my narrow street. His foreman, Felipe, on site was great to work with, clearly thinking about how water flowed off the driveway and working with me to adjust grades where the old driveway had settled. The work included a gravel section to protect an existing tree root and provide an infiltration area. I am REALLY pleased with the work, it was professional, and well finished. We wanted to give a shout out to Mark Simmons and his crews for some outstanding work. We have had three projects done by Mark, all of which have been outstanding! First we had a Concrete driveway and approach done to a colony home that is over a 100 years old. His ideas and design not only complimented the house but helped blend the new garage in with the scope of the aged home. Well done! The second project was done at our kids home, where a portion of the pool area was re configured and new concrete poured and concrete steps were poured to blend in three different areas and make the pool area safer for the grandchildren and their friends while using the pool. Finally we just completed a pad and retaining wall for a new 5th wheel. We wanted a nice safe area to store our 5th wheel along with making it usable while in place. We often have overnight company and thought having everything hooked up and usable all the time would be a great asset to our property.
