After a squirrel passed on underneath our aging deck, A1 came out to take a look to dispose of it. That being said, this deck was very old and after chatting with the owner, we made a decision to replace the deck with pavers. Throughout the process, the estimate was discussed and work and everything came to completion very quickly! That is incredibly impressive in the times of Covid, with many contractors having schedules booked for weeks if not months. Thank you A1 concrete for the fantastic timely work! Our new patio is wonderful and looks fantastic!!! read more

A-1 Concrete - New patio! - Masonry/Concrete Near Me

This team went about and beyond our expectations. We had them expand our driveway, our back patio and add a walkway, as well as build a dog run.. they started our job during a heatwave, and by the time they finished, they were dealing with poor air quality. But it didn't slow them down in the least. They were on time, worked hard and we are SO very happy with the work we did. Im already trying to find another job for them to do. They were so polite, patient (because I had ALOT of questions and concerns), and meticulous. Hands down A1 will be our go to for all things construction. Not only were they communicative and a breeze to work with, they were also competitively priced. It is so very clear that they take pride in their work. Now, as for the four stars rather than 5, well thats for the lack of communication in regards to when they will come clean up. When asked when the answers ranged from "oh, another day" to "the truck is broken/being used/not available right now" here hoping they come soon, if so I'll raise their score to a 5 Raised to a 5 because, while it took a few reminder texts and a few days, they did come back read more

Mark and all the employees at A-1 Concrete are very professional. We had them put in a new concrete pad in our barn which originally was put on top of DG by the original owner. They did an amazing job of jacking the whole barn up to do the job properly. Since they accomplished that so well, we had them put in pavers and a new stacked wall in our backyard! Trust me, it's hard to find good people these days. A-1 is the best! read more

Mark Simmons is the former owner of Hoovers Restaurant and also the owner of A-1 Concrete and A-1 Pest Company. We hired Mark Simmons, Felipe, and crew from A-1 Concrete in Atascadero to pour a 70 foot retaining wall for us June 2023. We paid $9000 and the job is still not complete. Repeated attempts to reach out have been ignored by Mark. Photos tell all. Look at the holes in the cement wall (compromised) and showing the exposed rebar. See the oozing cement along the front wall? Please Mark, stop ignoring our calls and come back to finish the job you were paid to do. As a result of your poor work, the following need to be addressed. Patch the cracks, fill large deep holes, seal the back side and grind down the oozing cement. The wall also needs the drain installed and back filled. Still waiting .... a promise made should be kept. Sad to make someone one else do your repairs and force owner to pay twice. read more

In August 2019 we hired Mark and his team to lay a large 14 x 26 concrete patio, a smaller 12 x 14 patio and create a few paths connecting the two. It turned out beautifully. Mark and his team were easy to work from the beginning to the end of the project. He always answered his phone when I had questions or needed to clarify details. When I changed my mind, he informed his crew. He managed to squeeze us into their busy schedules and worked diligently to finish the job within 2 weeks, start to finish. We couldn't be happier with A-1 Construction! read more

We hired A-1 to help us transform our front yard and did they come through! Mark and his team, including Moises, Felipe and Samuel were amazing to deal with. We hired Mark Simmons and his crew to install two concrete pads on our Atascadero property. A 24x16 under a recently built pergola and a 12x12 in front of our shop. From initial contact to project completion Mark was quick to respond and a great communicator. Larry, the onsite foreman was friendly, helpful, and on time over the two days it took to complete. Prior to the pour, he let us know what to expect and also went over his ideas for joint placements so it looked nice under our pergola. My wife and I could not be happier with the end result and would not hesitate to use A-1 Concrete again! Thank you Mark and team! read more

We hired Mark Simmons and his Crew to install a concrete retaining wall and patio in our backyard in April, 2016 and it has been a complete nightmare. The retaining wall is structurally unsound and has developed significant cracks (all concrete cracks, but less than a month after installation, you can fit a quarter in the cracks of our wall). When they were installing the concrete, the crew blocked the excavator in with the new patio and the operator demolished the side of our yard to get it out. This caused extensive damage to our yard. And, to add insult to injury, the building inspector for the City of Atascadero has now informed us that A-1 Concrete failed to obtain the proper building permits and that the work will not pass code because it is so subpar. Now we must rip everything out and start all over again. The cost is astronomical. We have paid for over 80% of the job and Mark Simmons refuses to give us our money back or to work with us to find a resolution. We have reported him and A-1 Concrete to the Contractors State Licensing Board and they are currently under investigation. Do yourself a favor and hire a Contractor of a higher caliber so you don't have to lose a ton of money and time like we have. read more

Don't know about prior negative post, but these guys are as good as it gets when it comes to concrete. Great crew with obvious experience and great attitudes! I've worked with plenty of contractors. If u need concrete, these are your guys! read more

A-1 did the demo and new concrete for a complete remodel. They took months longer than they quoted and kept blaming the weather. When it was raining they would come out and make mud and when it was nice out, they were busy elsewhere. The formed the whole thing crooked, which made framing the house later a nightmare. The concrete cracked as soon as it dried and the surface was uneven and very wavy. I would not recommend A-1 for anything but a concrete step in the garden. They do not know what they are doing, overcharge and make excuses when it's their fault. The pumper truck leaked oil and diesel all over my street, sprayed my neighbors car with concrete and I had to ask for them to clean the car, for which they charged me hours. They actually charged me extra for their mistakes! Do yourself a favor and don't go with Mark and his low bid. read more

As a person who expects top-notch work, these guys did not disappoint. First and foremost, Mark responded to my inquiry right away, which was incredibly refreshing. (It often takes contractors days to call back, if ever!) His crew was meticulous pouring our new patio and they finished the job in a timely manner. They went above and beyond my expectations. The patio is wonderful! I wouldn't even think of calling anyone else in the future. These guys are pros who will make sure the job is done right. read more

I appreciate how easy it was to work with Mark and his team. I found them to be honest, fair, and qualified to handle a variety of projects such as concrete work, plumbing, extending gas lines, and drywall repair. The projects they have done for us were completed in less time than anticipated and were well done. Mark and his team will be the first professionals we contact when considering future projects. read more

We found Mark very trust worthy and honest. He is a man of his word and started and finished the job as he had promised. We asked him to pour concrete, about 900 sq-ft. To extend our existing porch, add another porch to the side of the house and create walkways to around the house connect those two porches to the driveway. His men finished the job in three days and did a great job. He is experienced and does quality work. I'll definitely ask him to do more work for us! read more

We highly recommend this company. Mark, the owner, is eager to offer suggestions on styles & options to beautify an area. We wanted to replace our front entrance & walkway with stamped concrete and pavers. Mark is very accommodating & easy to work with. His pricing is reasonable & he was able to meet our timeline. He has a terrific crew - all are professionals, friendly & very knowledgeable. Mark sent out several crews to handle specific parts of the project: Felipe, Moises, Pauly, Joe, John & Alberto. We so enjoyed working with each one. If you need pavers, Alberto is your man. He puts a lot of concentration into creating a pattern that's balanced & aesthetic. This is a team who's hard working, knows what they're doing, & is willing to offer advice & answer questions. We are so happy with the outcome! We give this company 5 stars & also 5 stars to Mark's adorable puppy! read more

A1-Concrete of Atascadero completed a full driveway removal and replacement for me in early Spring 2022. The owner, Mark, was easy to reach by phone, got back to me promptly, and was on site to give me an estimate the same day I called him. He explained what was included in the work, and everything that I was going to ask for, was already covered, including reinforcement set up on Dobies, no concrete washout on site, and thickened edges. He said it would be 5-8 weeks until he could get to my project, and it was just about 5 weeks when he called and scheduled the work. He was happy to adjust the pour schedule to avoid trash pickup day on my narrow street. His foreman, Felipe, on site was great to work with, clearly thinking about how water flowed off the driveway and working with me to adjust grades where the old driveway had settled. The work included a gravel section to protect an existing tree root and provide an infiltration area. I am REALLY pleased with the work, it was professional, and well finished. Mark's goal from the beginning appeared to be to provide me with a finished product that was well done and that I was happy with, and that is exactly what happened. B.L. 4/2022 read more

We have another concrete job coming up and would not think of using anyone else but Mark's A-1 Concrete. His ideas, his thoughtful review of the scope of work and his suggestions from drainage to finishes, as well as the professionalism of his crews have all kept us on budget and on time. A-1 Concrete was one of the first contractors we hired when we moved here seven years ago, we have readily referred this company to friends up the road, and we look forward to working with Mark & his team again on our new project. read more

Hardest working crew, courteous, polite, clean! The project evolved over time due to our developing idea of what our need and property needed, and I am happy to say Mark and his crew were flexible, timely, and have extensive insight and experience to collaborate to give the best outcome. We wanted to give a shout out to Mark Simmons and his crews for some outstanding work. We have had three projects done by Mark, all of which have been outstanding! First we had a Concrete driveway and approach done to a colony home that is over a 100 years old. His ideas and design not only complimented the house but helped blend the new garage in with the scope of the aged home. Well done! The second project was done at our kids home, where a portion of the pool area was re configured and new concrete poured and concrete steps were poured to blend in three different areas and make the pool area safer for the grandchildren and their friends while using the pool. Finally we just completed a pad and retaining wall for a new 5th wheel. We wanted a nice safe area to store our 5th wheel along with making it usable while in place. We often have overnight company and thought having everything hooked up and usable all the time would be a great asset to our property. Over a 100 feet of new fencing along with a dog run were part of the project, and Marks guys were way beyond our expectations. Mark and his crews are thoughtful, professional and always willing to make suggestions to not only make the project safer but many times cheaper by using newer products or updated ideas that have been used on other projects. We would use Mark in any future projects and would gladly recommend him, and his company to anyone we come into contact with wanting a good solid value. read more

Mark and Martin did an amazing job with our patio and sidewalks. Their whole crew was very professional. If we need more concrete we won't call anyone else. Their price was competitive with our other bids and they worked with us to rearrange a few things to make sure we stayed within our budget. The thing that impressed us the most is that they kept checking to make sure the forms were just the way we wanted. Couldn't be happier with the end product. read more
