First I was lowballed to the extreme for trade in also did not tell me they weren't accounting for all the cards just the ones over 5$ value. I'll never come here again also telling EVERYONE I know to avoid this place at all costs read more

Went in to pick up some MTG singles for deckbuilding. Everyone is always helpful and super chill. Definitely will be giving them more of my business before shopping online or going elsewhere. Stay cool A-1! read more

Good store at first. I bought MTG Dragon shield Perfect fit sleeves for a EDH deck and several sleeves turned out to be defective. I was willing to exchange for the same product and try again but was told to take my issue up with dragon shield myself. All I got was this excuse and a lovely 20% off of another purchase. If you've ever had a store sell you something defective and not take any responsibility for it you know how frustrating this is. In my opinion a comic shop needs to foster as good of a relationship with its community as possible. My request for exchange and NOT a refund was not unreasonable. I wont be coming back to this store. To many feel bads :( read more

This review is solely based on my experience with trading in cards. I will say the selection of anything you might want is huge. As far as Pokémon cards goes (why I went in) they have a great collection of singles at decent prices. Sealed product though is double if not more retail price. Expect that at any LCS though, rough times. Today I went in to buy some singles and trade in a few cards, looking for store credit in return. I spoke to a lady who was nice and broke down the their whole trade in process. Explaining the difference in cash value vs store credit etc. I told her I was looking to for store credit right. She then gave me over to an employee that would look through what I had and give me an estimate. Took about 15 or so minutes and I was exploring around the store. He came to me with a receipt and asked me for a signature, no problem. But then gave me cash, to which I explained I was looking for store credit. He told ame "ahhh it's kind of too late" and that he "already closed it out". I asked him "there's nothing we could do?" He said no. We're at the register and I ask him again if there was any way we could get me the store credit value obviously cause it was more for my trade in, and I was buying more product from them any way and said he couldn't. He said "it would've have only been about $10 more, if you come next time and sell us some more stuff I'll ask them to give you a bit more"...lol. The item I wanted I was $40, cash value was $30 and store credit wouldve been $40 ‍ kinda weak. No way for me to get my cards back and just redo the transaction to get store credit which I asked for. No way to issue a gift card for the difference either. Smh. read more

The customer service is bad. We understand that the shop is busy because they have the sale off event today but it doesn't mean they can ignore your customers. One of the staffs hit me when she tried to get something out of the closet and she didn't even bother to say sorry. She just looked at me and walked away. We got 2 pre release packs, 1 single card and 3 packs of battle-bond (mtg). The kits seemed okay but the 3 packs seemed like they were glued back together because it was really hard to open at the top but easy at the bottom. It just seemed inconsistent to me. read more

Bruh!!!! This place is like a mini sac anime expo! There are a few comic book stores around, but they are dwarfed in comparison. I mean sure those others a decent, but this place is pretty epic. Lots of selections, good lay out, ok parking and variety. Prices do range high for some items, but to each person value is different so purchase wisely and do your research. Me and my 4 kids love to visit this store and they range in age from 3yrs to 17yrs!!! read more

I came in to try and see if any of the comic books I had were worth anything and the guy straight up told me "sorry, there's nothing that I need". Not what I came in here for. Wanted to find out how much I could sell these for, not if you needed any for your collection Good place to buy cards, but don't sell anything here. read more

As good as it gets indeed. This store took me back. I don't live in the area but come up a lot and there really isn't any store like this in Los Angeles anymore. The new books are respected not just thrown in. The employees are knowledgeable and friendly. I found what I was looking for and books I thought I would never see again. They have figures and statues and older star wars collectibles. I'm a kid in a candy store. If I wind up moving to Sac I will make this my store. I might make this my store and I live 392 miles away! read more

Went in this past weekend and was thoroughly impressed with the back issues and collectibles. I walked away with #1 Black Panther solo edition for a very good deal. Received a $10 gift card for spending over $50. Owners were very friendly and knowledgable. Worth the drive read more

On my last visit the staff was nice enough to tell me "hi" as I entered and "bye" as I left. The store was clean with a clean bathroom open to customers which is always good. Comic selection is ok at best when compared with the A1 comics on sunrise. However, they do have a great selection on toys compared to the other location, so it kinda evens out. Prices are retail so don't expect to find great deals. Overall it was a good experience as I found the toy I was looking for. Will definitely be back. read more

I've been shopping at A-1 Comics since I was 12 years old, so...What? 28 years? Yeah. Since the day my mom took me in to buy me a copy of Wolverine #1 as a birthday gift, I've been hooked. The store has moved locations several times in the intervening years (and expanded to include locations in Roseville and Folsom) but has always been very clean and well organized with an absolutely stellar selection of comics, new and old. My dad actually designed the box tables they're now using for their back issue storage and display. And they had two copies of the most recent IDW book to feature some of my artwork, so it made for a fun sort of collaboration to find my dad's handiwork alongside my own in the same comics shop. The staff here have always been very friendly and helpful. On my most recent visit, James was very cordial and knowledgeable about the most recent releases and talked me into picking up a new book which I ended up loving. My only hiatus from shopping here was due to my living at the other end of the state for a decade and a half, but every time I'm in town to visit family, I always make it a point to drop in and pick up a few comics. read more

Terrible costumer service. Zero to none social skills. Took cards out of the hard plastic sleeves which is fine. But then took the cards out of the smaller sleeves, selling me cards with no sleeves at all ultimately ruining the condition of my cards. After I specifically told them to leave them in the sleeves. Will never return here to buy cards again. They need to just stick to comics! read more

If I could give this place a zero star, I would. Called today and the A...... who answered me just hang up on me I didn't even finish what I am asking. Won't be surprised if this Business will close down soon. read more

I filled out a saver, but once I came in upon realizing one of the newest comics was in their shop, they informed me they did not have a saver for me. I proceeded to special order the comic. (Since for some reason A-1's only seem to receive 1 issue of the newest X-Files comics during each release) It's been weeks now since I ordered this comic...still no call or anything. I ended up having to order what I needed from the Roseville location, since they seem to be more reliable. Very disorganized. read more

Came into this store looking for Pokémon cards as my son is a huge fan. I don't know anything about Pokémon so I spoke with a young blonde girl who introduced herself as Jess in hopes of some guidance. Jess spoke to me in a very condescending tone as if I was some kind of idiot for not knowing anything about Pokémon.. but to be honest, she didn't really sound like she knew what she was talking about either. I ended up not buying any cards after all because of the way she made me feel. I continued to walk around the store and while looking at comics, I heard her yelling at employees from across the store. This is extremely unprofessional and made me as a customer feel very uncomfortable, so I left. 10/10 don't recommend. read more

A-1 Comics, owned by Brian Peets (played in the NFL), fulfills the comic book nerd's fantasy. Brian and his wife do a great job meeting the needs of newbies, casual fan, and hard core collectors like myself. I have bought from Brian at WonderCon, San Diego Comicon, and his bricks and mortar fortress. When I am up in Sacramento, I always drive by to see what he has. The old store on Madison was great, but I absolutely love the bank vault. One time, I asked Brian for a copy of Richie Rich #1, and he just happens to have an affordable copy. A-1 probably has more back issues than any other shop in California, especially Silver Age and plenty of Golden Age. Brian provides great service at a great price. The older comics are very fairly graded. If you want the new stuff, old stuff, action figures, expensive statues, A-1 probably has it. As a hard core collector, who has bought in London, New York City, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and annually attends San Diego Comicon (even before it became trendy), I highly recommend A-1 Comics as world-class. read more

I've been going to A-1 Comics since the 80s and I have always found it a wonderful place to go to. They have a huge selection of back issues and all the latest new issues. The staff is nice and well informed. read more

I've been a 20 year customer and Brian always has a clean shop and runs a nice shop. Great vault (literally and figuratively) of treasures for GA/SA vintage comics--especially pre-1965 stuff. Always tight grading and nice selection. Still Two thumbs up after all these years :) read more

In the Sacramento Area as far as comic shops go A-1 is hands down the best. Both locations have MASSIVE selections of back issues, new releases, and graphic novels. They are also one of the top spots in the area for Magic the Gathering, and Yu Gi Oh tornaments. All of the employees are alwas very helpful, and informative on upcoming events and promotions. My only negative is not really the fault of A-1, but compared to large retailers like Target or Walmart, the prices are a little high. The reason they dont lose a star is because the In-store experience makes up for the nickles and Dimes you lose. read more

Great staff, biggest collection of back issues I have every seen. Great sales. Highly recommended. read more

This is a really great place to go! Large and clean show room filled with every comic you can think of. I found a wonderful Punisher: circle of blood book. I will be back here in the future. Parking was great and the staff is really impressive with their knowledge of... Well everything! Thank you for the great experience! read more

Looking for a comic shop with friendly staff and a fantastic selection? Look no further. A-1 Comics is wonderful. They carry a large selection of new titles as well as an impressive selection of back issues (with more coming every day). They carry trades, t-shirts and a dazzling selection of action figures, statues and collectibles. They also carry gaming books and supplies, as well as cards. Prices are reasonable, especially for back issues, and the store holds frequent sales on weekends. I have always found the staff to be helpful and conscientious, and if they don't have something in stock, they will call their sister store in Roseville or recommend other options. They remember me and call me by name and even asked after my husband after an illness. Great people, wonderful shop! :) read more

I'm not your usual comic book nerd. I don't like super hero stuff, and I can't ever imagine doing anything related to comic cards/games/things-that-require-costumes. I like graphic novels that involve (usually angst-y) illustrative writing. This store is big. It's got a great selection. If you're into more traditional stuff - this is like a comic book wet dream place for you. But for those of us who sort of stand out like a sore thumb, it's almost as good as your going to get in sacramento. I found a few Top Shelf Comix here as well as some buried other indie comics/graphic novels. You're going to have to scan through the shelves of "traditional" comics, but they are there. read more

A-1 Comics - Mewtwo and gengar at Halloween costume party. - Comic Books Near Me - Sacramento, California

A-1 is hands down the best comic book shop from San Francisco, to the East and South Bay as well as the Sacramento area - also the most massive collection. There is a reason there are three A-1 comic shops - this company is simply the best. Also, no store is more fair in regards to buying a collection. As I'm leaving the area and had to part with my collection of over 40 years in a rather quick fashion, I shopped many stores ASAP. More than a few owners tried to really low ball and take advantage of me. Some would give a decent price and offer more with the caveat that if I didn't bring in my collection within that day they would pay said price. Brian at A-1 was professional, courteous, knowledgeable and friendly. I don't give everyone a great rating, however, A-1 has earned it in spades. read more

I haven't walked into a comic book store since I was a child. I needed some superhero toys for my nephews and was a little overwhelmed not knowing what to pick. Thankfully, J.W. was there and incredibly helpful. He was so kind and patient and told me the backstory for all the characters we were checking out. I had a lot more fun picking out the toys because of J.W. and I'm super excited to see them play with these! Thanks SO much!! read more

This is our go to neighborhood comic book shop. They have a great selection of everything comic related. I love to peruse their action figure collection as well. I prefer this location over the Roseville one, but both are good comic book shops. read more

Easily the best comic store in Sacramento and the surrounding area. This place has such an tremendous selection it's incredible. They offer variant covers at reasonable prices and they always have a deep back issue selection. If you're into gaming, they also have a good size gaming collection from CCGs to RPGs. They offer bags and boards at reasonable prices and they have a good size kids selection of comics as well. They have a huge graphic novel section. My favorite place to go when visiting the state capitol. read more

The enormous selection of comics at this place is my primary reason for going. I stopped in yesterday, and they have tons of new, independent books, as well as the vintage classics, like the original Dr. Strange line. They also have a game room, with a huge selection, and a packed events calendar, which means the regulars have a reason to stay regular. Overall, great selection, great environment. read more

Came in to purchase cards and there was confusion about an ongoing promo. A few days later the shop confirmed it for me and honored the promo for me. This will be where I buy my collections going forward read more

I like this place. I've been here many times and each time I go, the staff is respectful as well as helpful and they seem to had adequate knowledge or the store. I can spend a lot of time here if I want to, but usually I can get in and get out quick which I love. some times I just need to get a quick read. I'm not sure what days but they have card playing events from open to close. the store itself is large to me and they have comics as well as figurines, calendars, tees, etc. and it is neat and organized. read more

Bad service. Doesn't seen like they care about new customers and only for those who shop there a bunch.

I've shopped at A-1 Comics since they opened at Manzanita & Madison in the late 80's - Brian has invariably been courteous, helpful, and informative in all dealings. He has engendered a considerate work force through the decades that tries to provide customer service in a dicey industry for it. Some of these "reviews" on here seem like they are confused about what industry we're talking about. Gaming/comics always has, and always will be inundated with questionable (at best) personality types and difficult purchases. The fact that they have survived longer than any other Sacramento-area Friendly Local Gaming Store (FLGS) is a testament to Brian's business and personal acumen. A-1 Comics (both locations) is a community treasure, providing generations of gaming & comics fans a place to collect, trade, and play their hobbies. read more

Everything here is overpriced. I saw a lego set purchased from Ross with the original price tag scribbled out with a black marker. The price was even still visible through the marker!! It was set at 15$ and A1 was charging 40$!!! The set was selling brand new online for 25$ so I can guarantee by that example alone the person in charge is unaware of google. Literally never going back to this place. Couldn't believe my eyes. Check out eBay or amazon instead of you're looking for something specific. It'll save you the trip. Also the male employees (2) were flirting hardcore with the only female employee and had been doing so for the entirety of my visit (about 20 mins) terribly unprofessional to say the least. read more

I have so many wonderful things to say about this place! First off Aly is AMAZING! I am not super into comics but my other half is, Aly asks me what I like and makes spot on suggestions for both of us. She also orders toys and comics that I have been searching for. I always suggest this place as stop numero uno for any comic person whether they are new or have been collecting for awhile, you will be absolutely taken care of here! read more

This is a fantastic comic/gaming shop. They have a huge selection of comics and gaming supplies. I love shopping for miniatures there and don't mind driving from Yuba City to do so. One of the biggest comic shops I've ever been in, extremely knowledgeable staff and also very friendly. I've been to many shops, growing up a comic fan and this one is a great example of a solid store. One sign of a good business is that they are trying to grow and expand, which means better things for customers, more selection etc. This is definitely going to be my go to spot for comics, graphic novel and collectibles. read more

The staff are all extremely friendly and they have a wide selection of gundams here. Love this place!

My first Saturday in Sacramento (I'm originally from San Diego) I was recommended to go to A-1 Comics for their yugioh tournaments they host. I arrived and asked politely if they still host yugioh tournaments and the guy went nuts... I understand some people should not be allowed to play yugioh but his explanation was off the charts. They cancelled hosting yugioh tournaments for good. His excuse was, "Yugioh players are loud, start fights and are messy..." Yeah, I totally get it, but saying that was a total turn off. I have high expectations, coming from comic shops that set rules down for players but welcomed them in like family down in San Diego. Honestly, his response to us could have been better. Also, his action towards players could have been ALOT BETTER. It's a shame really. read more
