I have used Nagel Construction since 2015 for repairs and badly needed upgrades. I inherited the…read moreClear Lake area family home after my parents passed. Constructed in 1960, the house needed major system upgrades for electrical and plumbing, among others, to meet building codes and safety requirements. My father built the family home, and so I grew up somewhat familiar with what excellent work should be. Rick knows the building permitting process and will ensure that all permits are obtained and proper inspections made. Other contractors may not do this, but it is a vital step in insuring your property and a future sale. Rick has been in the construction business for 40+ years and employs only the best subcontractors including, sheetrock, tile, concrete, and painting professionals. You will feel entirely comfortable with any of these professionals in your home. Upgrades to my home include bathroom renovations, replaced driveway, complete exterior and interior painting, kitchen floor, and a patio cover that does not leak. Rick has great attention to detail and will not accept substandard work. The difference is apparent with Rick's work versus the previous work done by other contractors. Hiring Rick will provide you the best outcome - peace of mind.

Rick O's Construction And Remodeling

I give 5 stars for when Rick was alive and here several times a week, checking on our remodel. I…read moregive 2 for what happened after he passed. We hired Rick last summer for a full house remodel. Things were going smoothly for two months, then Rick passed away suddenly a month before they were finished. At that point, our daily workers who did exceptional work, refused to work for the person who took over. They did not want to be associated with the low quality work this person was known for. They warned me but I needed my job finished, as I had already paid over 60k. We were aware that things were being rushed and not done properly or with care, but we just wanted them out of our house. Fast forward to this summer. With the heat and humidity, we were shocked when mold started growing in our bottom kitchen cabinets, on the walls, doors and items in there. The hinges inside, on the cabinets, are completely rusted. They removed a vent behind our old stovetop and didn't bother to patch the huge hole in the drywall (in the end of inside the cabinet that connected with outdoor vent opening) They left that hole wide open causing this summer's nightmare scenario. They installed a new vent and we found the frame, that was supposed to stabilize said vent where it went through the attic, in our garage after they left. They cut corners at every opportunity, even asking if they could put new flooring over existing tile, when we had already paid to have the tile removed. They did not clean up before they left. As a matter of fact, they left all cut pieces of pvc and trash in the attic right where they were working. They used a marker pen to fill in spaces where they did not get flooring installed without gaps. There are more issues I could mention, but this should surely give you an idea of what you may be getting when you hire these guys. Rick O remodeling is nothing without Rick. I believe they fail to mention that Rick is not there anymore, in their new website. Don't let that website fool you. These are not licensed plumbers or electricians. Without Rick to stop by and check their work every few days, they just didn't care because there was no one to answer to. Rick did expect things to be done right the first time. My home does look very nice and I am pleased with the aesthetics. It's just those unseen things they think you won't notice, that show the new guys take no pride in workmanship. This leaves you to make the necessary repairs on your own down the road. we still have two brand new sinks with faucets that don't even work.

Review: We selected Rick O because he came highly recommended by both the Clear Lake ProSource and Angie's List and we were not disappointed. We had some ideas of what we wanted when we started, but got a lot of great ideas from Rick's partner, Beau. We accepted nearly all of his recommendations. All the work done was of the highest quality. The results of each aspect of installation were consistently better than we had even hoped. Rick was able to keep all his subcontractors that he had worked with for years, despite the high demand for contractors for hurricane Harvey recovery work. We had planned the work prior to Harvey. After the hurricane, it delayed the start just a month, but did extend the length of construction due to competing priorities with Harvey by some subcontractors, particularly the cabinetmaker - certainly understandable and out of Rick's control. The custom cabinets were amazing and worth the wait. During the entire construction, Rick was extremely responsive to any concern that we had. We texted and called frequently and he set up meetings with us prior to certain work to ensure we were all on the same page and nothing got missed. We were very impressed by every subcontractor that Rick had working on our job. They were all very professional and did quality work. The subcontractors made a lot of effort to minimize the mess in the house. Of course, there was the inevitable layer of construction dust on everything, but Rick provided a cleaning service at the end of the job. The only negative that I have is the length of time and lack of communication related to the quote in the beginning. They provide an extremely thorough quote, which gave us a lot of confidence in the price. However, we did not receive the quote (or an update to the quote when we had changes) in a timely fashion. Also, once we committed, there could have been more communication about when the job would start and when we had to make each selection (tile, granite, plumbing hardware, etc.), so some of this was done at the last minute. It all worked out, though, and once the job started, the communication and responsiveness increased exponentially. Rick's estimate was actually somewhat higher than another contractor we were looking at. However, Rick's estimate was far more thorough and we trusted his numbers more. In the end, Rick's very detailed estimate was right on. There were no surprises in the final invoice. I had heard so many people talk about unexpected overruns from other contractors and were very please this was not the case with Rick. We would highly recommend Rick O's and will definitely use him again in the future for other projects.

S-N-S Remodeling - After, Tub-to-Shower Conversion

S-N-S Remodeling

I'm very pleased with my bathroom remodel by S-N-S Remodeling, Dan Shannon, and his highly capable…read morecrew. I needed a lot of advice on how to maximize the use of this very small space and Dan really hit the ball out of the park on this project. Besides age, space, and lighting, a big issue we had was that the shower was recessed about 6 inches into the foundation and also had a dropped ceiling. We did not know what, if anything, was inside the drop. Dan found that the dropped ceiling was just empty, unused space and added that back into the shower compartment. He also added a much needed in-shower light. He brought the floor of the shower up to be appropriately level to the floor which was something we really wanted as stepping into and out of that dark, wet 6-inch recess was sometimes treacherous. Dan's excellent planning provided us with about 3 or 4 more inches of much needed counter top space without making the room feel crowded. The very well-made custom cabinetry exceeded my expectations. Dan's use of recessed lighting, a low profile toilet, a custom-made cabinet above the toilet, and the larger tiles with fewer grout lines all contribute to maximizing the use and the feel of the very limited space in this room. The tile work is just beautiful. Every tile was cut and every edge was hand-beveled on-site as needed for a perfect fit and finish. The paint was sprayed so is very smooth and even. And, of course, Dan and his crew repaired and replaced anything they found that was water-damaged behind the walls in this 60 year old bathroom. They cleaned up behind themselves daily. I really could not be happier with this remodel. Thank you, everyone! This was a job well done at a very fair price. Now, let's talk about that 60 year old kitchen......

This happened at the beginning of Covid, and we had postponed fixing this, for when the number of cases were more manageable. After 6 months, we didn't want to wait anymore. Dan Shannon gave us a free estimate for the work (plus changing the flooring in the other bathroom to match as well) and had that scheduled soon after. They called 2 days before we were scheduled to start, asking if they can start a day earlier as someone else cancelled, and we agreed (we aren't going anywhere in this pandemic so why not?). Dan and his crew came by right on the scheduled time. Everyone had their masks on (hurray!). They put on heavy paper across the house so they don't scratch our floors as they worked. They were very respectful to us, our home, and our property as they worked, which we're so grateful as we were around the whole time. We're also very satisfied with their craftsmanship, and would use them again for any future remodeling work. Highly recommended.
