Evening Al Fresco dining is lovely with candlelit white tablecloth tables, attention to detail. We have dined there twice & from their Antipasti to Dolci, all was wonderful. Every ingredient-Fresh! A very Tuscan stand out was the Stuffed Guinea Fowl with Truffle Sauce, Guinea was a mild wild flavor with the rich earthy truffle sauce was simply divine, beautiful presentation! You really need reservations for this gem of a restaurant

Kind of wish we had selected inside instead since the small areas inside are so intimate and cool looking. Either way, it is the food we were here for and it did not disappoint in any way. I hate to admit, that since this was a long lunch to celebrate our friend's anniversary, I forgot to take a photo of the menu and now can not find the receipt to know exactly what we had or what the photos are all of. The one pasta with the small egg yoke in the middle is a pasta carbonara, and it was amazing. As you stir the pasta the egg cooks, giving a unique freshness. Of course the red tomato pasta is a traditional pasta, but the flavor was outstanding. Appetizers were a savory cannoli that just burst with flavor. The most unique item was a cheese stuffed squash blossom. Everything that passed our lips was unique and bursting with flavors. Servings are not American huge, instead they are Italian tasteful. Plenty to eat and still feel good. The restaurant also has an excellent wine cellar with local selections. We had a bottle of local white that was perfect for the meal and not too expensive at all. This is a perfect special occasion restaurant and not to be missed when visiting Spoleto.

THE BEST dinner in Italy from Venice, Florence, Bologna and Montalcino dinner…read more It is tucked away and also has a hotel attached. It is nothing fancy and ran be very few people. The service can be slow since there is only one waitress, however, the genuine experience, food and atmosphere is fantastic. There is no wine list, no specials written. The chef is amazing guy, perhaps 80 years old and shows how passionate he is about his restaurant and folks enjoying his cooking. The day we were there, one of the specials was tagliatelle with fresh truffles. The chef actually comes out after the waitress brings out the food and grinds the truffle over your plate. He looked so proud and happy while doing it too. The antipasto was the best one we had (hands down) and their pasta bolognese was so good that we ordered the gnocchi as well. Everything is home made and prepared to order, hence why it takes a while. We will definitely be back again (come to this region every other year)

Every server is serving you and the owners are incredibly attentive. Meals are stepped out in a way that has you receiving each dish with ample time to enjoy. Taverna di San Giuseppe was a disappointing meal for us, especially in a city with so many great…read moredining options. We ended up here by mistake (confused it with another spot), and unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. The restaurant fills up with reservations for two seatings, and from the moment we sat down the pace felt rushed. We ordered drinks and a starter while deciding on the rest, but multiple staff members kept coming by trying to take our full order. It felt like they were pushing to move things along quickly. There were a couple positives. The chicken livers to start were quite tasty and something we didn't see often on other menus. The primi were underwhelming. The pasta didn't taste fresh like many other trattorias in Siena, and the dishes overall were just average. The lasagna in particular was mushy, and the sauces didn't stand out. The secondi were slightly better -- pork ribs, Barolo-braised beef, and a "small chicken" -- but still nothing that justified the higher prices. They do have an underground wine cellar built into a cave, which is interesting to see, but there are other places in Siena with much larger and more impressive cellar spaces. Also worth noting, they add a "10% tax" charge rather than the typical €2 coperto per person. Overall, a rushed and fairly mediocre meal at a higher price point. With so many better places to eat in Siena, this is one I'd skip.
