I have gone to 92nd street a handful of times. The one thing I would tell everyone, to go in on Sundays when Eric is working! He is the best bartender!!!! Giving this place 3 stars. Not because service sucked, the service was great. The food, was excellent and quite surprised at how good it really was. However, there are two sides of the whole bar. Friday and Saturday's karaoke nights which are just too loud or a joke box on the other side, where the locals overrun the music. We input enough cash to listen to about 10 songs, we got to listen to 2 of them. Now, I get it, not everyone likes black sabbath, led zeppelin or Eric Church, yes that was the actual line up. Unfortunately since the new owners took over myself and many regulars have started exploring new places. i really like Ed and Theresa, but the manager Nicole definitely needs professional hospitality training or I'm afraid they just won't make it. Met some guy on OKC and 92nd Street was the middle point between us. Met here for dinks and clicked right away. Spent the evening talking and laughing. Now almost 3 years later we are sitting here at 92nd street having a little lunch date before we go to look at engagement rings. This used to be one of my favorite spots in this pocket of Scottsdale. As a new resident a couple years ago I was initially met with open arms and a community environment that was solely created by the bartenders. I was always eager to show friends and family that came in to town and watch them experience the same experience I would on a regular basis. There was always a welcoming rapport from the bartenders to all existing and new customers every time I would go there... It truly felt like a community with open arms and a landmark in this side of town. Every time I would go there I would witness new people building off that same atmosphere that I initially experienced. From an outsider perspective I would think this type of retention and market presence would be beneficial to the business? Now with NEW OWNERSHIP it seems as though that momentum has taken a halt. They've lost that sense of inclusiveness and community oriented values. I understand that over time there is always opportunities for new relationships to be built, but unfortunately there seems to be a lack of that immediate gratification as there once was with the old staff, which reflected the core values of what this industry is all about. In my opinion it's that first impression that would keep people coming back...at least that's what my experience reflected. I would hope people still come back to this great spot of Scottsdale, but predict there may be some resistance in building that regular customer base without the great people that were once in the front lines. I hope NEW OWNERSHIP considers bringing them back - especially from a customer loyalty perspective. read more

This was the first time I went to 92nd street cafe.... WILL not be back.. infact the service was so terrible, Justin & Austin - that we walked out! They need to get it together - The tv's were so loud, -- Austin took out drink order, after 5-10 minutes asked where it was ..... said it was on its way.. never received. WE left.... This is the worst freaking place I've been to in a very long time, worst service ever, ever, ever!!!! I sat at the bar with my boyfriend, and from start to finish, we were ignored constantly. We had to constantly flag down our waitress, Sue, to get anything and everything that we needed. We even had to wait a very, very long time to pay our bill, and then we finally had to go up to the front of the bar just to hand it to her so she could ring us up. My boyfriend got his dinner before mine. All I had was soup. I had to wait another 15 minutes to get a bowl of soup!!! I had to ask another waitress to get it for me. our waitress sue did not pay any attention to us whatsoever the entire night, never even said hi to me when I walked in either. it was the worst worst service. I even made a comment to her about how I had to wait for my soup, and then she said, oh sorry about that.... that should have been the very first thing she did was apologize, and then she should have made sure that she brought out my soup right away instead of waiting until I had to bring it up to her to acknowledge that she messed up!!! my boyfriend said he has been here 2 other times before by himself, and he has been treated terribly both times as well. he just thought he would give it another try by bringing me there. We were in the area on Friday and thought it would be a good time to try this place. We walked in and seated ourselves without being greeted. The waitress came by and asked about drinks, I requested a menu but about 20 minutes passed and I still had not received a menu. I decided to get my own menu from the station by the door. We still waited quite a bit before the waitress took our order and it seemed to be the theme of the night. The waitress appeared to be the only server while there were three people tending to the practically empty bar. The waitress was nice but could not keep up with the amount of tables she was serving. I can't think of a better way to alienate customers than to refuse to honor your business' coupon. But that's exactly what 92nd Street Cafe is doing. The "new ownership" does not want to honor coupons that were ordered by the previous ownership. I can't imagine that so many coupons are out there that it would be a big financial issue for the new owners to just honor the coupons and keep customers happy. Admittedly, after I protested that my 2019 Entertainment Coupon (which expires 5 months from now on 12/30/2019) would not be honored, the server called the owner and said it would be honored just this time. (Fine by me - I only have 1 Entertainment Book.) Food and service were fine. But given the huge number of other informal restaurants in the Scottsdale / Phoenix area, I don't expect to be returning after this coupon BS. I know you are looking at this thinking, geez, another neighborhood bar! But this is one you really should try. I personally have NEVER had a bad meal here, and even the takeout is great (hot, tasty, etc.). Love this bar and staff. However, what I saw on Sunday was completely unprofessional. Older red headed waitress, I believe her name was Patricia, was berating the bartender and using completely inappropriate language and attitude in front of everyone. But worse, even knocked a glass of wine onto a customer and did nothing but walk away. No apology, nothing. Luckily the bartender with the Mohawk was there to save the day. I've been here four times. Food is prepared well for a pub type atmosphere. Locally owned and loved by the owners who come around and say hello to their guests. Serving size of dishes are plenty and servers are competent. If it's very busy sometimes wait staff are hard to get a hold of for drink refills and meal needs. Overall, this place is great for hamburgers, wings, nachos, salads etc... I don't drink so I can't address the well area; but I can say that the bar area is always busy with people saying hello to each other. read more

Shocked at the news I heard walking into the bar today. Disgusted with the new owners staff change. This is what made this place what it was. The friendly faces when you walk in and knowing that no matter how much time goes by you can always come here and nothings changed. The atmosphere and feeling I got was just not the same. I will return only if they can manage to repair the damage they've already done 2 days into owning the place. If you care what your customers want and like about your establishment you should try your hardest to bring back the staff that made this place enjoyable. The gossip and talk I was surrounded by with all the regulars was just absolutely exhausting. Met a friend for some snacks. Happy hour menu was sticky (please clean) but the food was so yummy. We had the double dipped buffalo wings and a sample platter. Buffalo wings were served hot, fresh and a crunchy. The sauce was tangy, and spiciness was just the right! A definite winner on the menu! Next we ordered the sample platter which had a bit little of everything (potato skins, mozzarella sticks, wings, and zucchini) which were served hot and was full of flavor. Our server was very friendly also and she left us alone to enjoy our food and conversation. Water was kept full and appreciated. We will be back! read more

UGGHHH UGGHH UGGHH! 2 friends & I stopped in for a bite to eat & a few drinks. Immediately we should have known better. Upon entering the front door, there was no greeter, no sign saying, " Please seat yourself" or any evidence of a restaurant staff member. We took a table in the bar anyway As we were the ONLY customers in the place it seemed rather odd we had to intermittently explore this small place to find anyone, anyone at all, who would bring us a total of 3 menus and 1 food server. Our very annoyed server, Justin, sporting a greasy man bun, in addition to very dirty clothes, tossed our the menus on the table. With sanitation being the key, all 3 menus were sticky & coated with fingerprints. Still we stayed. Still, we ordered 3 glasses of water, 1 with lemon, 3 glasses of white wine & 1 slice of carrot cake. Pretty simple stuff. At this juncture the true hilarity began. It took the highly-esteemed Justin literally, 15 minutes to bring 3 glasses of water all with a myriad of lemon slices. Certainly, neat-o, had 1 friend not been allergic to citrus. Upon pointing this out, Mensa Member Justin stated, "Just take them off." As this is NOT how allergies work, he rolled his eyes as he took glass of water away. In sweet revenge he never brought back a new glass. Then, came the infamous, "Carrot Cake Incident." Slacker-server, Justin thumped our slice of cake on the table, sans plates & napkins & utensils. This triangular block of cement was clearly masquerading as a slice of cake. Obviously, we could see that it was FROZEN. Not cold but FROZEN! Once again, upon enlightening super-server Justin of this situation, he emphatically stated, "People don't order desert here so we keep it in the freezer." Then stalked away. Never to return. . If I could give zero stars I would. I went last night with a group of people for karaoke night. We found a place to sit up on the higher level area. Let me begin with service, our server was pompous and rude. I was the DD so I just got water but He was scolding my friends about their Arizona driver licenses and how they have to switch it to the new one. I told him that was not true, it only applies if you have a vertical driver license, they both have horizontal. He continued to argue and say that's not correct and he would "let it slide this once." I looked it up and I'm correct. It applies to vertical license and old AZ driver licenses are okay until October 1, 2020 for travel at airports. He should get his facts straight. He also made a rude comment to us, he asked us if we were still "sitting pretty" and my friend answered "yes." He then said, "Just like a quadriplegic beauty queen." I didn't think that was funny at all and it was offensive. He also took about 20 mins to pick up our check from our table and we were dying to leave at this point. We were excited for Karaoke and my friend put our names in, she asked them where to put our paper and they said on the lap top. She said it wasn't a large pile and I'm sure we would be singing in like 15-20 mins. WRONG. We waited an hour and a half.. We never got up there. What pisses me off the most was the girl server that works there sang TWICE and our personal server got to sing too. Yet we still had not been called up there? You should let your patrons have an opportunity to sing first before you staff. Even the couple in front of us seemed upset too because they were waiting to sing too. I think their should be an actual sign up sheet. Not scraps of paper so whoever is working the karaoke machine can't pick and choose who is next. This area has plenty of housing but not many options to choose from for evening cocktails. Luckily a spot like 92nd Street Cafe exists. Now, here's something very important to note: disregard the name "cafe" in the title. When I think of a cafe, I think of a quaint spot where I can get a nice coffee, a simple sandwich/salad and sit for hours while reading a book. But at 92nd Street Cafe, think about this spot more as one where you go to after a couple or to get a couple drinks and waist the day/night away with bar food and dive drinks. The scene here is pretty classic and fun. I walked in and saw a large group of bar goers themed in their best 80s attire. I saw old men who were stumbling around like they'd been drinking since 1989 and I saw normal bar goers just there to kick back and have a few. It's divey in here but clean, the staff is friendly and the drinks are good. It's a narrow bar but surprisingly has a decent amount of seating a room. The interior has plenty of activities for the drinkers as well. I will end this review with a funny observation I made while there and that's the fact that this bar is right next to Sweet Republic. One day the kids are getting ice cream with their folks, the next day they are home from college and discover 92nd Street Cafe next door. read more

This is my new favorite bar. I just moved from Chicago and I'm used to really old bars with that Irish pub smell, good bar food and loud people. This is exactly that. First of all, allow me to preface this by saying that I have been in the service industry for (sadly) over 10 years. So compared to most people I am EXTREMELY forgiving to restaurants, bars and their staff. I'd also like to add that my AWFUL experience at 92nd Street Cafe is the reason I signed up with Yelp and write this review. My sister and I sat at the bar of 92nd Street Cafe on a Wednesday night and the place was dead. The only other people in the establishment were a family of 4 eating dinner at a table at 3 frat boys at the bar. Our bartender, MICHELLE, completely ignored us the whole time...instead, flirted with the frat boys next to us. I ordered a Colorado Bulldog, a drink every bartender should know how to make...when It came back with no cream, I politely asked for them to add it. It was thrown back at me as if I was the biggest nuisance for asking. The food...I wish I took a picture of it, it was such a joke. I ordered the "Warm Chopped Grilled Vegetable Salad." According the the menu it included grilled vegetables with diced peppers, zucchini, grilled corn, spinach and romaine lettuce." It came to me, all romaine lettuce with what tasted like canned corn on top. I don't know where all the other vegetables were. When my sister asked what came on the salad, MICHELLE responded with an attitude like she obviously didn't care "I don't know, green peppers, lettuce, some other things..." Then walked away not offering to correct it. Even though we sat there with empty glasses for over 25 minutes, MICHELLE didn't check on us ONCE. Instead, flirted with the guys next to us. After almost 30 minutes, I asked "Excuse me, are you our waitress?" She gave me the look of death and asked "What?" I asked again "Are you our waitress?" She said in the snottiest, attitude "I'm your BARTENDER." It was at that point we asked for our check and left. When an establishment makes you walk away asking yourself "What did I say or do to that waitress/bartender/whoever to piss them off and make them treat us so poorly" you know it's a BAD place that you should never go back to. I may have even gone back despite the crappy food. But our joke of a service from MICHELLE and her ugly attitude is repellent to anyone. I know we are in times of COVID, which is hard on bars and restaurants and we will always respect each establishment's rules. I must say, 92nd Street is a neighborhood restaurant that we frequent often, before and during COVID. The last three weekends we have been there on a Friday night for a few drinks. The first time, things were "okay." The second Friday night we were there, the owner's daughter was beyond rude. We are respecting and abiding by ALL COVID-19 rules (wearing a mask, sitting at a table, social distancing and anything an establishment wants us to do.) We waited at the front door for a table because the sign said "Wait to be Seated." So we waited 5ish minutes for someone to seat us. Nobody came to seat us so we walked up to the bar to order a drink. Nicole walked up to us and yelled at us to sit at a table and pointed to the sign that said "Please wait to be seated." We responded by saying that nobody came to greet us or seat us and after 5 minutes of waiting, we went to the bar to order a drink. Once we had our drinks and we were sat at a table, we realized that we weren't greeted at the front door because Nicole, who is either working or not working, still not really sure what her role is. She was drinking and smoking on the patio the entire time we were there. The second time we went into 92nd, we experienced the same exact situation with Nicole. She was extremely rude and disrespectful to her customers. We are disappointed in her management and behavior. We are so happy with the changes Ed has made to the restaurant and truly enjoy it but we can't support the nasty behavior by Nicole. We like to support our local bars/restaurants. Drinking and smoking on the patio while regulating customers just doesn't work for the business. With all of that being said, Brittany, Steven and Austin provide the best customer service and we greatly appreciate them! They are the reason we have gone back! read more

I went to this bar for the first time as that woman Shirl did. We had wildly different experiences. Shirl forgot to mention that she was the one ripped up the restaurants MENU and threw them on the ground, like a child. She also failed to mention that she did not use the bathroom because the manager asked her to leave since she was a drunk, rude, insensitive a**hole, who was asked multiple times to leave the bar and would not leave, instead mocked the bar owner and continued to complain about the service. Shirl was maybe in the bar for 30 minutes before the cops had to be threatened to be called to get her to leave. My opinion of the bar is that it's a nice local joint, the bar owner was behind the bar pouring drinks and helping out. The atmosphere was great until Shirl came, but 92 handled the situation as best the could considering Shirl was a drunk, combative 70 year old child. The food was great, drinks were strong, the bar was clean. We got there during happy hour and I was very pleased with how affordable they are. The pretzel and beer cheese was amazing! Servings are huge. There are a lot of regulars which tells me that they're doing something right. I felt super welcomed and genuinely enjoyed my time at 92. This place use to be a gold mine. New owners need to be concerned with who is in charge of management in the late evenings. Absolutely despicable and unprofessional. Came in last week to a fairly quiet bar that took a server and a bartender to look at us and completely ignore my wife and I. Bartender finally asked what we wanted after roughly 10min, with no "be right with you" or anything of the nature. Food is as decent as it use to be. Crowd is fun when we come in, until the couple next to us once had tried playing music on the jukebox and I assume the manager or whoever was in charge of "music duty" kept changing their songs due to the fact "she didn't like it". I'm assuming drinking and still trying to run a business is a great way to expel customers and keep them from feeling welcome. Probably wont give this place another chance considering the circumstances of events. read more
