Got some pretty great coffee and okay breakfast in Freeport. It doesn't have a lot of options but this is one. 9 East Coffee is a lot like any typical small town coffee shop. Has a simple menu and a quiet atmosphere. The prices are pretty okay really. Coming in here in the morning it wasn't as crowded. It's got a few tables in the front and a few more in another room. The menu is pretty basic and there's not a whole lot of fancy stuff. A few lattes if wanting more than regular coffee. It's about $5 to get a latte. A few to choose from. I got the Lo Fi Vanilla Lavender Latte. Creamy and filling. They have plant based milks including oat. It's about $2 for a bagel. They have a few spreads including peanut butter, which goes great on a plain. Has a simple amount of things to choose from. It's closed Sundays. This is the best place for breakfast around here, because otherwise it's just fast food, greasy stuff, or whatever. read more

This is a coffee shop that does not open until 7 AM, and, even though the staff were standing around on their phones, would refuse to open their doors for people waiting outside until three minutes after 7. Just not nice for travelers. read more

I really liked this spot! I was in Freeport for work and I went to 9 East for lunch with my co-workers. I love the fact that they serve breakfast all day -- but I opted for one of their quiche of the days (crab and artichoke) as well as a cup of their Italian sausage soup. I also ordered a strawberry smoothie per my co-worker's suggestion. It was honestly one of my favorite meals in Freeport. The quiche had imitation crab -- but I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, given the price. The quiche was wonderful, though. And the soup! What a surprise. It was more a hybrid of a soup and a stew, as it was on the thick side and SO DELICIOUS. I loved that they served lunch with a single little pretzel (look up the Freeport Pretzels and you will understand). Speaking of the Pretzels, they share or co-own a souvenir shop that sells Pretzels gear. Love it. Strawberry smoothie was a winner, too. Just your local, delicious coffee shop. read more

Once a month, 9 East opens on Sunday for brunch. We were fortunate enough to be in town to enjoy it. It was TASTY. Eggs Benedict, pulled pork nachos, and a delicious fresh pastry bar, multiple types of coffee, and more, made for a great brunch. read more

We went for brunch and really enjoyed it. The pastry table was delicious. Homemade pop tarts? Count me in! Mexican pork breakfast skillet was really good as well. Best espresso I think I've ever had. Intelligentsia coffee was a tad watery. The food was great too, just cold when it should have been hot.

I'm not sure what all the hype is about this place. Have been there a few times, and not because it is my choice but because other people insist on going there for good coffee. I have never had an above average drink and do not know why people insist on it. Frapuccinos and Lattes have been so unflavored. In September a friend and I rode the Jane Addams Trail from Orangeville to Freeport. We rode into town to caffeinated and were delighted with 9 East. The cheerful barista made a great mocha and latte. The muffins were fresh and tasty. Nice local vibe to the place. Would definitely return next time we're in town. read more

I was in town for a quick overnight at the nearby Hampton. I was so pleased to find this place. My latte was excellent (a regular 16 oz) and I also had the berry oatmeal. The service was prompt and friendly. The building had a neat look with exposed brick walls inside and was located in a nice downtown spot. If I am in the area again I will definitely return. I always look forward to nine east when I come home. The variety of coffee is amazing and the taste and flavors are delicious. Not your typical coffee shop and in my opinion the coffee is way better than Starbucks or plasticy tasting keurig. It is in a quaint historical building with exposed original brick, old wooden floors and rounded arched doorways which speak to the past of the building. It is nice to bring a book and read on the patio on a summer day or dine indoors on a cold day. The staff is extrememly friendly and the padteries and baked goods are to die for. I wish they were open later to accommodate an afternoon crowd but u understand the finincial impact that would put on the owner to keep it running longer. I'm curious if they did a trial period with later hours or even summer hours that run later if it would pay off to keep it open later. Overall best coffee shop in Freeport. read more
