MUST-TRY: A SECRET COFFEE PLACE NEAR KAPITOLYO
On a payday Saturday night, I discovered a hidden gem near the much-documented eat street, Kapitolyo. Eight Ounce Coffee Kitchen sound familiar to you? Probably not. But boy, it's worth getting to know.
I was driving along Pasig Blvd, or what I call as the "gas station row" (this relatively short strip has Shell, Petron, Seaoil, Seaoil, Filoil, etc.) when a nicely-lit café on the side of the road caught my eye.
Eight Ounce (8oz.) is located right beside Filoil, or more accurately, sharing the same lot as the gas station. Strange spot, right? But you can already tell from the outside that this place is something special.
Looking through its big glass windows you will see the warm inviting lights of the café and its clean modern (hipster) interior. A friendly server chirps an equally warm greeting as you walk in, and that's when you can really appreciate what I liked best about the place - it was not too crowded on a weekend. I ordered a hot Café Mocha for P135, which turned out to be really good. Just the right amount of sweet and bitter, with a milk chocolatey finish that made me smile. They use Norwegian-brand Douwe Egberts coffee.
I checked their menu and was pleased to find that they offer my most favorite thing in the world: Beef Tapa. And, you can order Angus Beef by weight for takeout. There's also a small but adequate selection of pizzas and pastas, which I'm intending to try next time. (They have Truffle Mushroom pasta for only P240!) Sporting a watchful eye as I contentedly sipped on, I also noticed from the counter that they use good-quality ingredients for their food items. I'll leave that for you to check out.
On the whole, this coffee spot is a great, serendipitous find. Discover it sometime.
EIGHT OUNCE is in 1227 Pasig Blvd., Pasig City. In the same lot as Filoil Gas Station.
