So the food here is very standard americanized chinese fare. However that being said, its quite nice, it's very small, only enough for like 3 tables, but the customer service is really great! The lady that works there is super nice, and actually waited for us to pick up our food 45 minutes after they had closed. Just tried this for the first time recently. It I's my wife and I's new favorite Chinese restaurant in Ames! The portions are huge. I have got take out here many times. Portions are large, and it is made to order. I always order everything extremely spicy as their standard stuff is pretty blan. It's not authentic chinese, but it's every bit as good as any of the buffets I've ever been to. And they do have very reasonable prices. read more

Affordable, delicious, and they deliver! An $8 dinner platter easily serves you two meals, and it is very good food. I have had the Orange Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, and pork Egg Foo Young, all of which I love! They offer an online menu on their website, and they also give you the option to order online. Tonight was the third time that my husband and I ordered from 888. The first two times the wait was slow for delivery (around an hour), but they deliver and it was one of the tastier Chinese options in Ames so we thought it was worth the wait. Tonight was different. We waited for over an hour and twenty minutes for food and then when the order arrived it was completely wrong. They sent the delivery guy back and he gave us the "correct" order which was also wrong (missing rice to go with the Beef and Broccoli). By this time the order was cold of course and the beef lo mein had soaked through the bag. We threw out the soy sauce packets and fortune cookies just so we didn't have to deal with the mess. On top of that, the crab rangoon was the worst I have ever had. They tasted weird, most of them didn't really have anything inside them just an air pocket, and the sweet and sour sauce was off. Perhaps if you just want to eat at the restaurant or pick-up you will still have a decent experience, but we will NEVER order from them again. The service tonight was just too pathetic. read more

I loved being able to order online. The delivery person was very friendly. The food was yummy, and I'm happy that they had vegan options.

This restaurant only has one thing going for it, delivery. Everything about it seems very Americanize Chinese food, the szechewan chicken I had was not spicy. The food really didn't have any flavor it was very bland. I would recommend eating at house of chen, may houseor home style Chinese long before eating here again. My favorite Chinese in Ames. It's not the most amazing food and if you're dining in the ambience is not good, but everything tastes pretty good and the portions are very generous. If I could give them zero stars, then I would. I placed an order @ 7:35pm and I finally @ 9:35pm. I have waited for two hours before to get food from this place because they are located on the other side of town from me. When I called the lady told me that they never received my online order. I told them that I got a confirmation email and I gave them the number that I had from the email. She explained that she could give me what equated to $2.00 off the order, but that only managers or the owner could do something more. I asked if there was a manager there and she said not until 11pm after they have been closed for an hour. I decided it wasn't worth waiting another hour to get $2.00 off and I cancelled my order. Worst Chinese food I've ever eaten!! Ordered the Mongolian beef and it was all under cooked onions

I had been a loyal customer to 888 since moving into the neighborhood and was ordering at least once a week if not twice for the past 5 months. Just recently I went in and just wanted soup. They rejected my order because I did not have cash on me and said that the 50 cent charge for swiping a card would hurt their ability to profit on my order even after I explained how much I had ordered from them. If 50 cents was such a big deal they should factor that into their prices. I left and sent an email of feedback about customer service and how shocked I was that they would reject a customer's order over 50 cents. I hope they do not treat other customers this rudely. They never did respond back to my feedback even though I provided all my information, which tells me that their practices most likely did not change. I am reluctant to ever order from there again. read more

Worst Chinese food I have ever attempted to eat. Ordered both Orange chicken and General Taos and the chicken was so dry and over cooked it was wrinkled. The egg roll tasted like pig manure. We called to discuss the issue and were told we could get refund or new food, but were told it would be another 45mins. I requested a refund and were able to eat some rice and the crab ragoons . We were called back later stating that they could not refund our order. After a discussion they would only refund our order if we took the food back. Which is of course against health codes. After returning the food we were still charged for the crab ragoons and they attempted to charge us the delivery fee and a the portion of the egg roll that was eaten. I am absolutely disgusted and want to warn everyone to NEVER eat here! Customer service is awful if you are demanding food back into your restaurant. read more

I've only been to this place once and do not plan on going back. It's important to note that this place is not meant for dining in - there are only a few tables packed close together. I ordered the sesame chicken and it was very hard to chew and tasted more like fried stringy batter vs. meat. Prices were OK but the quality of the food would not make me go back again. I have never had such horrible service in my life. First, our food wasn't delivered until over 1 hour and 20 minutes after we ordered it. Once it got here, they forgot our crab rangoons, gave us an egg roll instead of a spring roll, and the inside of every piece of chicken was grey. It was absolutely disgusting. After calling to complain, they told us that they hadn't made a mistake and thought we were lying to get our money back. They wouldn't even let me talk to a manager. I have worked in a restaurant before and I would never try to get money back for good service and good food, but yes after the numerous amount of problems I thought it was fair to get our money back. 888 lost about 6 customers. First off I ordered on line and was told that it would be a 45 minute wait for delivery which was fine. After an hour and a half I called and was told that they "forgot to make my order" I was told that they would rush and it would be 10% off. When it finally got here after waiting another half an hour I find that I did not get what I ordered but a different dish, basically all cabbage and a few pieces of shrimp. There were no crab rangoons or soy sauce which I requested. I called back to complain and she said they would come pick up the food and give me a credit. I said NO I want the food I ordered!! She said to me it would be here in 15 minutes. It has been an hour and still hasn't gotten here! I wouldn't waste my time or money on this horrible place.
