Every nail is a different chunky thickness, shape and length. Acrylic is all over my skin and under my nails which is burning my open wounds. All Star Nails is an incredibly friendly, professional and clean space to get yo' nails did. Most recently I walked in off the street late in the afternoon and requested a shellac manicure. I was immediately seated, offered a bottle of water and one of the friendly gals got to work. EFFICIENCY! My nails are still crisp and clean, one week later with absolutely no signs of impending chips. The pedicures are just as speedy but equally as relaxing. Lay back in one of their giant, massaging seats and forget your worries and your cares. But what reflects most about the All Star ladies are their customers. Every time I have popped in, they always seem to have local ladies coming in and out, asking about the manicurists children or requesting "the usual". Having mainly seen waxing services offered at your cheap asian type nail salons, I was seeking out somewhere more specialised after hearing some horror stories from others experiences! And then of the few waxing specific places I had seen, their booking times seemed to be extremely limited and nobody wants a rushed waxing experience because surely that can only lead to more pain! i was taking a wander down Johnston Street one Saturday afternoon and saw the sign for Clara's Beauty Room out on the street and put a note in my phone to investigate this further. I researched the website which in itself was very professional - always a good sign in my book! I then had a look at the facebook page and all the reviews seemed very positive, and so along with the Spring Specials advertised on the website, I decided I needed to give this place a go and if I had my own horror story at the end of it, then so be it. I am SO glad that Clara's was the place I finally took my Melbourne waxing leap. Horror story it was NOT! Let me start by saying Clara is an absolute gem! She made me feel comfortable immediately and the room where the waxing is done is just a little oasis (you enter via Monarch Hairdressers - and they were equally as welcoming to me and not dismissive like other businesses who share premises can be and directed me where to wait whilst offering me a coffee or tea and some magazines to read while Clara finished up with her previous client!). I had chosen one of the spring sale packages consisting of a brazilian, full leg wax and eyelash tint (which all together was under $90!!!). Once Clara had brought me into her beauty room, she had a bit of an introductory chat and then said she would start with the full leg wax while I got comfortable with her and then we could move onto the brazilian if I was comfortable - I have never had that offered to me before! There was no way I couldn't feel comfortable though because like I said, she is an absolute gem and I just loved the experience (as fun as getting hair ripped out of your body can be of course!). It was finished off with the lash tint, which she said she would leave on for 20 minutes instead of the usual 10 as she felt it would last longer that way, but if I was feeling irritable by lying with my eyes shut for that long that she could remove it sooner. I had no problems with this and she even gave me a lovely hand and arm massage to fill in the time. My expectations were definitely met and exceeded and I am SO happy I came across this business. I rebooked for the same package before I left as I can't see me going anywhere else.

I've only had walk-ins and received service within 5 minutes each time. They take appointments as well for busier days/hours (after 3pm, end of week/weekends). I've gotten a regular mani/pedi as well as shellac manicures and loved my nails each time. Prices are average and reasonable. Love this salon!

The girls at Lexi are so sweet, and they give a mean manicure…read more It's not the world's most glamorous salon, but I've seen bits of Sleepless in Seattle on the small television in the corner on two separate occasions, which makes it an indulgent experience in my book. Lexi doesn't have the greatest range of nail varnish (mostly traditional colours in the pink/red family with a few lurid exceptions) but they don't mind if you bring in your own from home. Usually I only get a mani-pedi, but I have it on good authority from a friend that their waxing is phenomenal - she swears the Lexi girls always give shaggy eyebrows the perfect shape. There's only a handful of chairs available so I'd recommend calling ahead on weekends, but walk-ins aren't a problem mid-week. And, like most salons, you'll get a better deal if you bundle various services together, however the prices are really reasonable to begin with so an afternoon at Lexi is a guilt-free treat!
