The Raton Truck Stop lies on the southeast side of Raton, NM…read more It was a bit nippy out on the morning of November 25, 2023, so I just wanted to pump unleaded, clean my windshield since my wiper fluid dispenser iced over through the mountainous drive I just experienced, and get back to my long haul to the Fort Worth, TX area. It would have been great if all the pumps were working. They sure weren't. Other drivers were noticeably & verbally frustrated by it. Thank goodness for other pumpers who paid attention to these matters and kindly moved their vehicle shortly after pumping... especially the guy I parked behind. They really should consider cleaning up the place a bit. Maybe get different trash cans so trash doesn't fly around anywhere. Their squeegies for window cleaning could use replacing. They were non-existent. I realize this is a courtesy for gas stations to provide, but it does make for safer roads. The main upside was that fuel is fairly affordable here. That day regular unleaded was $3, plus was $3.40, and premium was somewhere around $3.50.

The pump I ended up using failed to issue me a receipt. I think they do not refill the register tape in an attempt to get you into the convenience store. Once in the store, the shelves are picked over and near empty. a large portion of the cold drink racks were completely empty. The restroom area was the deal breaker for me. The partition was ripped off the wall and unsafely remounted, accompanied with a "be careful" sign. Both soap dispensers were 100% empty. (how do the employees in the food prep area wash their hands?) There were two employees behind the front counter who appeared to be pre occupied with personal stuff while the store they are behind paid to maintain is in complete shambles. I would highly recommend patronizing a service station that actually cares about maintaining its pumps, inventory, and restroom facilities.

We arrived just after a major downpour on the evening of Friday, September 2nd, 2016. Half the parking lot was flooded near where the pump fills are (is there water in the gas?) and the drainage from the fuel pump canopy was sending water all over the cars of the patrons. Local 'cool kids' with noisy Fast-and-Furious beater Honda Civics were revving their cars with obnoxious mufflers under the awning and being a general annoyance. The interior of the gas station is far from new and the bathrooms are simply gross- do not go in there even if you're about to burst- go over to the Denny's two doors east of the gas station to do your business. The front doors had rust along the bottoms. It appears that neither the employees or the owners of the gas station seem to care about its appearance or basic upkeep. Avoid this gas station. In fact just avoid Raton all together. You can thank me later. UPDATE: Does this gas station not read these reviews? Another passing-through-visit to Raton on the evening of Monday, August 7th, 2017 and the station is EXACTLY THE SAME as it was during previous visit in September of last year above. On a Monday I called JM tire about a car rental. They told me it's available come on over. Later I was told the car wasn't ready and needed to be vacuumed and an oil change. On Tuesday I was told it wasn't ready, but they were starting on it and it also needed a wheel alignment. But it would be ready on Wednesday by 10:00. On Wednesday I was told it wasn't ready because they were still working on it and it also needed brakes. I wasn't told when it would be ready. A few of the locals told me the Raton has changed for the worst. They go out to eat or to the store and don't recognize anyone. The saddest thing I heard was nobody helps or cares about their neighbors. I'm just a visitor who wanted to see my son while he's at a boys scout camp 30 minutes south. If Lewis does not want $300-500 dollars of business or whatever the charge would have been, that's fine. Next time just say "sorry it's not available". JM is listed as the only rental in town, I guess that's wrong. I do not recommend nor would I do any business with JM.
