Very pleasantly surprised! Doesn't look like much from the outside but it's a very cozy comfortable spot. Amazing service, great food for the price. The fries are INCREDIBLE.

Mex-Burrio with hash browns

Had an overnight stop in Alva during a longer trip, got up Sunday morning looking for a sit-down restaurant for breakfast. The choices were fast food, or the 818 Diner. Nondescript on the outside but what a delight on the inside! Black/white checkerboard tiles on the floor and the surprising use of corrugated roofing tin part way up the walls, decorated with all sorts of local memorabilia, photos and old signs, it all worked. Comfortable, clean, ample space, and the staff was all genuinely friendly and helping in any way they could. My grandchildren had Belgian waffles ($8.99) and pancakes (short stack $6.99), 2 of us had the Mexi-Burrito ($9.99). I had that with a biscuit and gravy on the side. They loved the waffles (topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream) and pancakes, and the bacon was cooked perfectly. The Mexi-Burrito probably began life as an 8" tortilla, then stuffed with eggs, diced potatoes, chorizo, onions and cheese, topped with green chili sauce. I comes with refried beans but I had hash browns - and a side of salsa. I don't think the green chili was homemade because it had that vinegar based and was bright green that made me think it came from a jar, and the salsa likewise, but it all worked. The chorizo was mild and the flavors melded perfectly, and the hash browns were perfectly done and delicious. The gravy tasted homemade and the biscuit was perfect - good sized, not overly salty, just good. Though it was breakfast, one in our group asked about pie, and discovered they made their own pecan pie, so he had that. The woman who had made it brought it, still warm out of the oven. It was sampled by 2 others and all agreed it was delicious. This is a good little diner with amazing staff delivering exactly what the menu claims. The only slight 'ding' would be the service wasn't the best, having to remind the waitress 2x that one of our group was still waiting for his cup of coffee, reminding her another time a promised refill of OJ never came, and 1 or 2 other things like that. But overall, I would definitely eat there again.

Great little breakfast spot! We come back to visit a lot and so much has come to town, so happy we tried this place out. I will only order biscuits and gravy in Oklahoma, maybe it's nostalgia from visiting my grandma growing up but this place did not disappoint. Kiddos loved their food and it's so reasonably priced! Thanks so much!

We both got the catfish (cause not many places do it right where we live) and it was perfect! Waitress was super friendly and attentive! Would definitely go back when passing thru the area!

This is a true little town place and I loved every moment of it. The first time I stopped in I found a seat and was promptly greeted and asked what I'd like to drink. I got unsweet tea and man was it good tea! They had all you can eat catfish so I went for it! It's cut into small strips and breaded and fried and it was absolutely perfect. Breading to gosh ration was perfection. I was asked if I'd like them to go ahead and get a second basket of catfish cooking and I said yes. It came with a piece of butter toasted Texas toast yum!The tartar sauce was delicious as well. I ordered a side salad which is just lettuce and shredded cheese and I got ranch...it was awesome. I had fried okra and mashed potato and gravy. All was incredible. I loved the decor and the staff was just amazing all the way around with every person I encountered. This is a place where you don't feel like the people hate their jobs and are just getting through. Everyone knows everyone and I really enjoyed seeing that. All good reheated was just as good the next day! The slow place of a little town has my heart since I grew up in small country area and now live in the city. It was so nice to slow down and not feel a bit rushed from driving in the road to this perfect little diner. I went back the next evening for dinner and the place was a bit busier than before and had large families gathered. I was greeted and ordered an unsweet tea. This time I tried the chicken fried steak smothered in white gravy with mashed potato's and gravy and a side salad with ranch. Again everything was perfection! Best chicken fried steak I've had in awhile, again breading to meat ratio was perfect and breading was crunchy and golden brown. I then was asked if I'd like dessert and they said they had peanut butter chocolate cake. I got it to go. Holy moly was it a slice of heaven! It was just what I needed to go along with the rest of my home cooked comfort food. Little diners like this in small towns do t get many reviews on Yelp and I always do my best to promote them when they are amazing like this one. I support local whenever I can. If you are ever close by this is a must stop in place. I don't have a single negative thing to say. Thank you to all who made my experience just wonderful! The first night I was there a gentleman in the back quietly paid for my meal and I wanted to go thank him but he asked the waitress not to say it was him and I wanted to respect that. Do you know how long it's been since a stranger did something g so kind for literally no reason? If you see this sir, thank you from the bottom of my heart. We need more of this on our world. Kindness is everything. Do NOT pass this place up, you will be missing out big time!
